- In his last case, Inspector Steier is overtaken by his alcohol addiction: In a criminal trial for the death of a little girl, his testimony is questioned and the accused is released. Steier quits the service and makes a momentous decision - A routine survey of Steier leads to a catastrophe. A little girl is fatally injured by a ricochet. In court, however, the perpetrator is acquitted because the lawyer questions the testimony of Inspector Steier, who had had a good drink in a pub the night before the deployment. Steier is beside himself and quits his job, "finally wanting to be a hero again in his own film". He loads his pistol and pursues Nico, who fired the fatal shots. At the last moment he comes to his senses, but finds out that Nico is planning a break-in together with his brother Robin and his junkie friend Lisa. It ends in a disaster, the unexpectedly returned homeowner is killed. A neighbor, Rolf Poller, has observed everything and falls into the crosshairs of the burglar trio who want to eliminate the witness. When he tries to save Poller, Steier is knocked down in his house and locked in the basement with Nico and his brother's girlfriend. He locks Robin in his son's former teenage room. Poller has a perfidious plan. He too finally wants to be the hero in his own film again. But his version follows a completely different script.—ARD Das Erste
