The Madame Web actress made her name known all around the world with the erotic drama trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey (2015 - 2018) and the horror film Suspiria (2018). However, Dakota Johnson is also very much of a comedy performer.
Although the romantic comedy How to Be Single (2016) and the dramedy The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019), that starred the actress, weren’t quite successful, the 2022 movie that is now holding the second place on HBO’s global top is truly a must-watch.
The plot of this comedy-drama revolves around Lucy, a 32-year-old woman who seems not to make it through coming of age yet. Her only interest in life is her best friend Jane, who is about to leave her soon as she announces her moving to London.
It’s high time for Lucy to figure out who she really is and what kind of feelings she has for Jane. As she reveals a long-held secret,...

Exclusive: John Hawkes (True Detective: Night Country) has joined the cast of Prime Video‘s graphic novel series, Criminal, in a recurring role. He joins the previously announced cast of Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, Kadeem Hardison, Logan Browning, Pat Healy and Taylor Selé.
Criminal is an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series created by Brubaker and Sean Phillips.

Once the biggest shark in the shark tank, Hyde is now showing his humanity a bit — maybe a bit too much. Netflix’s live roast of NFL great Tom Brady made it into the Nielsen streaming rankings for its premiere, despite only being available for a few hours of that week. After its first full week on the streamer, it rocketed to the top of the charts.
The Roast of Tom Brady gathered 1.67 billion minutes of viewing for the week of May 6-12, leading all streaming titles by a wide margin (the second-place finisher, Grey’s Anatomy, had 1.11 billion minutes of watch time for the week). The roast also had by far the biggest weekly viewing tally ever for a Netflix special; the previous high was 798 million minutes for Chris Rock’s stand-up special Selective Outrage in March 2023.
The 1.67 billion minutes of viewing for the roast in the United States translates to about 27.87 million hours, or about two thirds of Netflix’s reported worldwide total (42.2 million hours) for the special that week.

Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nilson, who made Peanut Butter Falcon, have been hired to direct the English language remake of the Mads Mikkelsen-starring film, Riders Of Justice.
Not long after Riders Of Justice released back in 2021, news emerged that the Danish film would be getting an English language remake.
A revenge thriller told with an eccentric tone and a streak of dark comedy, the original Riders Of Justice (Retfærdighedens ryttere) was popular on its original release, and we gave it four stars in our review. Directed by Anders Thomas Jensen and starring Mads Mikkelsen in a story about ‘a recently deployed soldier who returns home to care for his teenage daughter after his wife is killed in a train accident. But when a team of statistics experts investigating the accident claim foul play, the soldier embarks on a revenge-fuelled mission, along with an eclectic group, to find those responsible.

Dakota Johnson rose to prominence in the Fifty Shades trilogy and captured audiences’ interest as an actress. She has gone on to star in small-budget indie darlings such as Our Friend, The Peanut Butter Falcon, Cha Cha Real Smooth, and The Lost Daughter. The actress recently transitioned into the superhero genre with Madame Web.
Dakota Johnson plays Cassandra Webb in Madame Web
Unfortunately, the film turned out to be mediocre and a big box office bomb. Marvel fans deemed it one of the worst entries in the franchise, and they have mocked several unintentionally funny moments in the film. But it seems all that chatter about the film has boosted its interest among general audiences as the film has shot to Number 1 on the Netflix charts.

Exclusive: Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (Freud’s Last Session) has signed on to star in Bruno Penguin and the Staten Island Princess, the latest film from director Nick Cassavetes. Billed as the first-ever major Hollywood production to shoot in Antarctica, the film also has Shia Labeouf (Padre Pio) in talks to star and will enter production in November.
Scripted by Daniel Barnz and Ned Zeman, Bruno Penguin is based on a Vanity Fair article from the latter which tells the true story of adventurous Swiss photographer Bruno Zehnder, a superb artist who spent the last 20 years of his life in Antarctica photographing Emperor penguins. He was obsessed by them – their kindness, the way they lived, their deep levels of affection for one another. Bruno spent his life trying to learn how to communicate with them and over time, the colonies grew to know him and return his fondness.

Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton entering into a unique arrangement, J.Lo fighting evil artificial intelligence, the roasting of an NFL legend, a retelling of the invention of the Pop Tart, Brooke Shields and Benjamin Bratt at war and John Mulaney’s six-night live comedy event from Los Angeles are some of the big titles hitting Netflix in May.
Debuting on May 3 is Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, Unfrosted. The comedy legend works both sides of the camera for this humorous feature take on the birth of the Pop Tart. As summer approaches (for the Northern Hemisphere at least), Netflix is set to premiere a fresh season of one of its biggest hits.
Brigerton season 3 is set to arrive on May 16 and will debut a “new crop of debutantes” into the regency drama fray. Other original series of note this month include Indian drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (May 1), the Jeff Daniels-starring A Man in Full (May 2), and intriguing Korean title The 8 Show (May 17). Of course, Netflix is also rolling out a suite of true crime docs and docuseries as well. Chief among those options is Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal on May 15.
It’s the movie side of things where Netflix is feeling particularly lively though. May 3 sees the arrival of Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart comedy Unfrosted. That will be followed by rom-com Mother of the Bride (May 9) and the Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas (May 24).

Johnny Knoxville always seems to display an aching vulnerability, and it’s not just because he’s voluntarily endured years of intense bodily suffering as a result of his Jackass movies. So he seems the perfect choice to play the central character in Lije Sarki’s raucous black comedy that plays like a Bad News Bears featuring recovering addicts rather than precocious children.
Knoxville plays Morris, whose sad state of affairs is made immediately apparent in the opening scene: He’s shown waking up nearly naked and bloody on a park bench, having clearly been on one hell of a bender the night before. Even worse, he had apparently left his eight-year-old daughter home alone, making him realize he’s a danger to others as well as himself.

"You got 10 guys that need this place." Paramount has revealed an official trailer for a sports comedy called Sweet Dreams, a new film directed by the producer of sleeper hit The Peanut Butter Falcon previously. Opening in theaters in April this spring to enjoy. This fresh new comedy is a wild journey of second chances. Forced into rehab, Morris agrees to coach a misfit softball team of recovering addicts from his own house to prove that everyone, despite their past, can hit a home run. And maybe he will get his own life back on track, too. Johnny Knoxville stars as Morris, with an ensemble cast featuring Mo Amer, GaTa, Bobby Lee, Theo Von, Brian Van Holt, Jonnie Park, Shakewell, Adam Faison, plus Jay Mohr & Kate Upton. This doesn't look like it has the most original script, but it still does seem quite wholesome and amusing in an obnoxiously entertaining way.

In 2019, rumors circulated that Shia Labeouf and Mel Gibson would be featured in a new movie about the affluent Ashkenazi Jewish noble banking Rothschild family. The project, which was said to delve into the mysterious and secretive world of one of the wealthiest families in history, was met with excitement by fans.
However, since the initial announcement, there have been few or no updates regarding the status of the film, causing many to wonder: What happened to Gibson’s Rothschild movie? The project was supposed to be helmed by Tetris director Jon S. Baird.

Actress Dakota Johnson is not making headlines this time around for her role in a romantic drama or a gripping thriller. Instead, it is due to her disappointment with the cast of the recently released superhero film, Madame Web. The actress, 34, participated in extensive driving stunt training for Sony’s film, but she was not permitted to do any “crazy things” while working on the film.
During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Johnson was asked if she was excited to be doing her own stunts in Madame Web, helmed by the British director S. J. Clarkson. The film is based on the same-named character from Marvel Comics. Johnson plays Cassandra Webb, better known as Madame Webb, a clairvoyant with the ability to foresee future occurrences in the ‘spider world’.

Labeouf would’ve gladly dated some of those co-stars if given the opportunity. But circumstances beyond his control sometimes prevented onscreen relationships from becoming a reality.

One year after the landmark success for Best Picture winner “Coda” at the Academy Awards, the 2023 Oscars presented the latest opportunity for Hollywood to show the world where it stands on inclusion and diversity.
On Oscars night, through a combination of memorable moments and inclusive components of the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences demonstrated its growing commitment to embracing inclusion and accessibility for all.
For the second time, a free Asl livestream was available on the Academy’s YouTube channel. The livestream was updated this year to enhance accessibility for viewers. On the red carpet, a team of Asl interpreters helped participants more effectively engage with fans and viewers at home, with members of the media receiving guidelines on how to make their pre-show coverage more accessible. Meanwhile, stage accessibility included not only ramp access but a stage wheelchair lift for the first time as well.

Actor Shia Labeouf has been lighting up headlines this week. While he bravely admitted his bout with suicidal thoughts, his battles with director Olivia Wilde on Don’t Worry, Darling have taken the lead. Now, Labeouf is admitting that the so-called autobiographical Honey Boy was anything but. Labeouf fessed up on his friend and The Peanut Butter Falcon co-star Jon Bernthal’s podcast, Real Ones.

He would make his big-screen breakthrough in the form of director Michael Bay’s live-action “Transformers” franchise launched in 2007 as human hero Sam Witwicky, who becomes involved in a war between the mechanical alien foes Autobots and Decepticons.
He was recruited to co-star as Harrison Ford’s greaser son Mutt Williams in 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” the fourth installment of the series directed by Steven Spielberg that is set in the 1950s. He ultimately would pull out of the “Transformers” films, allowing Mark Wahlberg to take over as the lead in 2014.
Starting in 2013, Labeouf nixed what would have been his debut on Broadway in the play “Orphans.” He cited creative differences with his co-star Alec Baldwin,...

The “Twisted Metal” series at Peacock has cast Thomas Haden Church.
Church will star opposite previously announced series leads Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz. The show is described as a half-hour action comedy based on the Playstation video games of the same name.
In the show, a motor-mouthed outsider (Mackie) is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief (Beatriz), he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.
Church will play Agent Stone, said to be a cold and unyielding post-apocalyptic highway patrolman who rules the roads with a silver tongue and a twisted iron fist, prosecuting even the smallest crimes with the harshest of judgements. Agent Stone...

Dakota Johnson was caught off guard by the script for “The Lost Daughter”: “I never read something so honest,” she says. “At times, raw, almost to being uncomfortable but still so human.” The actress then met writer and director Maggie Gyllenhaal for lunch in New York, who she calls “a seeker of truth.”
On this episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Johnson talks about her experience working on Netflix’s “The Lost Daughter,” the adaptation of the Elena Ferrante novel. “The Lost Daughter” — one of the first movies to shoot during the early days of the pandemic — has received much critical acclaim after debuting at many of the fall film festivals.
In “The Lost Daughter,” Johnson plays Nina, a young woman overwhelmed by the responsibilities of motherhood, and the toxicity of her relationship with her daughter’s father. Along with the film itself, her performance has also brought...
