- Det. Supt. Jane Tennison: What's up with you, then?
- DS Alun Simms: Nothing.
- Det. Supt. Jane Tennison: Well, that's it then. Whatever you do, do not hire a stripper for the party.
- DS Alun Simms: I can't believe you're really leaving.
- Det. Supt. Jane Tennison: Well, I've had a good run, Taff, you know. Dozens of convictions. Three commendations, two for bravery, one for excellence. More than most.
- DS Alun Simms: First female DCI
- Det. Supt. Jane Tennison: First Jane Tennison, DCI.
- DS Alun Simms: Sorry, ma'am.
- Det. Supt. Jane Tennison: Don't call me "ma'am". I'm not the bloody Queen!
