Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has revealed that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was the only one who never bowed down in front of the underworld. Sanjay took to X (formerly Twitter), where he shared that he saw Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’. He also revealed how Shah Rukh Khan was the only star who never gave in to the underworld.
“I saw Jawan. I feel compelled to share this. Back in the 90’s when the underworld bullying of the film stars was at its peak @iamsrk was The Only star who never gave in.”
“‘Goli marni hai mar do, par tumhaare liye kaam nahin karoonga. Main Pathan hoon’. He said. He’s the same today,” Sanjay wrote.
Sanjay then called Shah Rukh Khan “man with a spine of steel”.
He added: “The entire finger monologue in Jawan is the single most gutsy thing in our films in the last ten years.

Entrepreneur-actor Sachiin Joshi who is currently stranded in Dubai is unable to come to terms with the death of two acting stalwarts in two days.
“It’s like a nightmare for our film industry. Two of the best actors leaving us one after another. I’m a big fan of Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor. Please note, I speak about them in the present tense. For me they will always be alive,” says Sachiin.
The full-time entrepreneur and part-time actor did get achance to work with Irrfan. “I co-produced Jazbaa in 2015 only so I could get to work with Irrfan. We made sure it was one of his slickest films ever, as he was always associated with the more realistic kind of cinema. We designed Jazbaa as a fast-paced glamorous thriller and for a change, Irrfan played a sophisticated investigative officer with the very beautiful and glamorous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as his co-star.

It has been four years since Priya Banerjee arrived from Canada to India with dreams in her eyes to make it big in the world of film industry. While her stint at the beginning was down South, her Bollywood sojourn began with Jazbaa. Now that she has already spent a couple of years in Mumbai and has pretty much set it as a base, has she been exposed to that side of the industry which many perceive to be dark and infamous?
“Honestly, I don’t think Bollywood is a dark world,” says Priya, “I am not experiencing anything like that. I am still fairly new here and still have managed to do three-four films as well as an online series already. Priya Banerjee was last seen in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Jazbaa where he played an assault victim. In a crucial role, she did well in her debut affair that was directed by Sanjay Gupta. While Jazbaa was a rather dark affair, the Canadian-Indian actress would next be seen in a much livelier film, Dil Jo Na Keh Saka. A romantic musical where she is paired with Himanshu Kohli (of Yaariyaan fame), the film is set for release in a month from now.
Says Priya, “When I heard the film’s script, I had smile on my face all the time since it is really cute. The film is about best friends who discover love over a period of time. This is a very real film too as it has moments that you can relate to; many of these would surely have happened to you in your younger days.”

Many of us have been wondering what writer/director Midhun Manuel Thomas would do to follow his debut film, the social comedy Aadu: Oru Bheegara Jeeviyanu ("Goat: A Dangerous Creature"), and with today's trailer release, the wait is finally over. Ann Mariya Kalippilaanu stars the talented young actress Sara Arjun, who won a Vijay award for Best Child Artist for the Tamil film Saivam, where she acted alongside veteran actor Nassar -- more recently she's been seen in the Hindi film Jazbaa playing Aishwarya Rai's daughter. Aju Varghese and Sunny Wayne were both seen in Aadu, but here they take centre stage as two of Ann Maria's goondas (hired thugs). The special appearance hinted at in the trailer is probably the internet's worst kept secret at...

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's much talked about comeback vehicle Jazbaa, which did not meet trade expectations, seems to have triggered a controversy even after months of its release. A few technicians who worked for the film have now alleged that they haven't received their dues for the film even now. It has been learnt that the Director of Photography Sameer Arya, screenplay writer Robin Bhatt, choreographer Ahmed Khan and dialogue writer Kamlesh Pandey are the ones who haven't received their dues for the film and it is being said that the total amount to be paid is approximately Rs. 20 lakhs. Kamlesh Pandey added that they indeed haven't received their dues and when they spoke to Gupta, the director mentioned that they are yet to get money from Essel Vision (who are the co-producers of Jazbaa). Since she first stepped on screen in Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has created some incredible roles both in the South and Hindi film industries. That first film showed that Aishwarya is an actress that likes a challenge, because she played dual role in the critical and box office success. Since her debut, with each new film, the actress has always chosen her roles very carefully and showed tremendous versatility in the characters she portrayed on film. Think of her incredible performance in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, or in the brilliant Taal, as well as Jeans, Raincoat, Chokher Bali, not to mention her total transformation into the characters in Devdas, Jodhaa Akbar and Guzaarish and that is just to name a few.

2015 was the year of actresses who were not content just to deliver a successful movie or two. The year’s top actresses weren’t just your usual on-screen heroines. They pushed the envelope and branched out into other projects and new roles in and out of the Hindi movie industry. Here are the actresses who went above and beyond this year.
Priyanka Chopra
Perhaps the actress most proving to a master of many things at once this year was Priyanka. She broke into American TV with a bang — no, really, a very big bang in New York’s Grand Central Station — in Quantico without ever leaving Bollywood behind. She also sang and danced across the big screen in two of 2015’s big hits, Bajirao Mastani and Dil Dhadakne Do.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” goes the Xmas song, but it also applies to sorting through the dreck and crap that came out of Bollywood in 2015. I watched many of these duds so that you don’t have to, and trust me they’re not as hilarious as I’m going to make them, because for every great Jodi like Srk-Kajol in Dilwale there’s Sunny Leone being paired with Ram Kapoor. Yet there were some awful gems like Msg and its sequel that came out in the same year – take that annual Fast and Furious franchise! Herewith is the worst and secretly hilarious of the year.
Worst Actor – Emraan Hashmi for Hamari Adhuri Kahani/Mr X
After doing so well in Shanghai, and Ghanchakkar, Emraan decided to play it safe with his performances in Hamari Adhuri Kahani (paired opposite Vidya Balan) and the atrocious Mr X.

A while back we had reported that after the release of Jazbaa, Sanjay Gupta has fast moved onto his next venture which would feature Hrithik Roshan. Now we hear that the film which will be produced by Rakesh Roshan has landed in legal trouble with model - actor Sudhanshu Pandey accusing Gupta and the Roshans for copyright infringement.
Rakesh Roshan has totally denied these allegations and said, "We haven't launched any film yet so where is the question of it being similar." However, while the makers the of the untitled film, Sanjay Gupta and Rakesh Roshan, except for this statement have chosen to stay mum about the topic, we have learnt that Siraj Ahmad had been contracted by Pandey to develop the screenplay and dialogues of Farmayish. When we contacted Siraj he added, "Yes Sudhanshu had approached me with the story and had contracted me to develop the screenplay and dialogues.

Has Aishwarya Rai Bachchan not been paid fully for her work in Sanjay Gupta's Jazbaa? While there are rumours floating around the payment issue between Aishwarya and her Jazbaa director Sanjay Gupta the truth is ,she has been paid her full price and has absolutely no complaints whatsoever on the payment issue.
A source close to Aishwarya reveals, "We don't know where these stories come from. There is no truth to them at all. Aishwarya had agreed to work for a certain amount which she was paid. Since she was also a producer on the project she was entitled to a part of the profits over and above the remuneration. Over the years maverick director Sanjay Gupta has become synonyms for his gritty gangster flicks like the 'Shootout' series. Well after his recent release Jazbaa that featured Irrfan Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan we hear that Gupta is all set for his next that will feature Abhishek Bachchan. In fact, the film in question is titled Ek Tha Gangster which will feature Abhishek Bachchan in the role of a gangster. The racy thriller is based on S. Hussain Zaidi's 2014 bestseller, Byculla to Bangkok, a sequel to his 2012 novel, Dongri to Dubai. The story of the film will trace how youngsters were recruited and they went on to become local goons like Arun Gawli, Ashwin Naik and Chhota Rajan. However, despite being a gangster flick we hear that the film won't focus on the dreaded gangster, but instead it will follow the lives of the cops and politicians who are also involved.

Earlier this month, we witnessed the release of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's comeback film Jazbaa that was directed by Sanjay Gupta. In fact Gupta's untitled next will apparently feature none other than the Krrish star Hrithik Roshan. If all goes as per plan, Gupta's next with Hrithik will be produced by the actor's father Rakesh Roshan, and will be shot in a three-month start-to-finish schedule beginning in July next year. As for the film itself, a source close to the project adds that the film will be an intense love story and is written by a new writer who brought the concept to Gupta. It seems to be a season of unusual co-stars for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. While in her comeback film Jazbaa, she was teamed with Irrfan Khan, in her next film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil she has Fawad Khan for company. Karan Johar's curious-looking love quadrangle has cast Fawad Khan opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In this contemporized version of Sagar Sarhadi's 1977 quadrangular drama Doosra Aadmi, Aishwarya steps into the role of a woman who has lost her beloved and sees a reflection of her dead lover in a much younger man whom she meets many years after the tragedy. Unfortunately, the debonair dude, played by Rishi Kapoor in Talwar's film and Ranbir in Karan Johar's film, is already engaged elsewhere. While Neetu Singh had played Rishi's girlfriend in Doosra Aadmi, Anushka Sharma plays Ranbir's lover-girl in Ae Dil Hai Mushqil. But the really interesting bit of casting that...

Irrfan has done it again. From Talvar to Jazbaa, it has been a seamless transition from him when it comes to balancing a real act v/s going stylish. Meanwhile, for newcomer Priya Banerjee, it was pretty much an experience that she gained up close and personal as she interacted with the actor for a few scenes in the film. Though it was expected that this would be an intimidating outing for the petite girl from Canada, considering the fact that this is her first Bollywood experience, Irrfan proved to be a good help for the youngster who has already made her debut down South as the leading lady.
“Irrfan is so humble,” gleams Priya, “When a scene was on and everyone was on the frame with so much happening, I was all worked up. I could hear myself saying that I better do a good job. Of course he...

Earlier we had reported that Essel Vision, the creative and production studio of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zee), announced a multi-film deal to make its foray into mainstream commercial Hindi films, with Sanjay Gupta's White Feather Films, of which the first was the recently released Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - Irrfan Khan starrer Jazbaa. However, now we hear that Essel Vision has apparently backed out of the deal. In fact we hear that the reason Essel Vision backed out was the poor Roi (Return On Investment) of Jazbaa at the box office, taking into consideration the cost of production as well as recoveries the film has had till date, due to it failing to entice the audience. Compounding the film's lack luster performance (as per their estimates), the previous week's release Talvar and the Hollywood release The Walk went a long way in damaging Jazbaa's overall box office appeal.

In a film that works both on a physical and emotional level, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan returns as a working mother, working to balance career with domestic responsibilities. When hotshot lawyer Anuradha Varma’s only daughter is kidnapped during school sports day. Anuradha is stricken with guilt for not spending more time with her child. It’s a prevalent dilemma for working women, and Sanjay Gupta who has so far focused attention on sexy item bombs and sexier guns opens up a debate on the travails of the working woman with flair and gusto, never allowing the thrills to override the somber underbelly of the plot.
Gupta brings flamboyance flourish and a restless energy to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s agile yet feminine role of a mother desperately seeking her daughter. In some ways I was reminded of Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly where a daughter is kidnapped. Kashyap’s film was much darker and ominous.

It would be interesting to find out why a particular title is given to a film. Jazbaa can be translated to mean ‘emotions’ and on paper the story behind Jazbaa is to do with emotions. The protagonist’s relationship with her friend, her daughter and the kidnapper bring out emotions that drive the story. However, it also drives our emotions from bored to depressing to fed-up.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays successful female criminal lawyer Anuradha Verma. Life is perfect as she has just won her latest case by using her intelligence and a little bit of bribery. Even though she is a single mother, she is without guilt of repercussions due to her ambitions. That is until her daughter gets kidnapped right before her eyes. The kidnapper wants to utilise her ambition and fame to release a known rapist and murderer, Miyaaz Sheikh.

A remake of a system-attacking Korean thriller, this vehicle for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan might be pulpy but it manages to muster enough entertainment value
As Bollywood royalty, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan would have been forgiven for easing herself back in upon her return from maternity leave. It’s to her credit, then, that she’s instead taken on Jazbaa, an appreciably pulpy remake of the 2007 Korean thriller Seven Days. Granted, Hindi cinema’s usual maternal-love fetish is somewhere hereabouts, but it’s secondary to another concern: what happens when those with dirty hands let those they care about slip through their fingers. Every one of its characters – from the highest MP to the lowliest thug – is working the system. An end-credit card highlighting Indian rape stats repositions Sanjay Gupta’s film as a critique of a system that needs to work harder itself.

After Kangna Ranaut walked out of Sujoy Ghosh's next film Durga Rani Singh, there were many speculations as to who would star in the film. However now we hear that the film in all likelihood may feature the Jazbaa actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the lead. In fact the actress who was busy promoting her current release was quoted in an interview that she was doing three films in the near future one being Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, the second which will be the biopic of Sarabjit Singh directed by Omung Kumar and a film with Sujoy Ghosh. Further the actress added that while Sujoy's film is slated for a later date, he had discussed two subjects with her, namely The Devotion of Mr X and Durga Rani Singh. However, with reports that Sujoy's The Devotion of Mr X may have been shelved, Aishwarya said that...

Ever since this film was announced, the hype surrounding Jazbaa has been almost surreal. The film sees director Sanjay Gupta (Shootout at Lokhandwala, Kaante, Musafir) working with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the first time with a stellar cast of national award winning actors Irrfan Khan and Shabana Azmi. Jazbaa is an action thriller with a hard hitting storyline. Its soundtrack is however, is very soothing to the ears with songs that are not over the top at all. Jazbaa is not the kind of film that would rely on music to influence its plot/storyline. It is a thriller and often with these kind of films we hear fast paced/dramatic songs but in the case of Jazbaa, the music is totally the opposite.

Finally, after quite some exciting build up for last one year, Jazbaa hits the screens this Friday. The promotion so far has been apt, the marketing is in the right direction and the release plans are spectacular, what with the makers (Zee Studios) going all out to ensure a huge international arrival. In fact it won’t be wrong to say that other than Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan, it is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Irrfan’s Jazbaa which has been in news for its wide overseas release this year. Now that says a lot about the brand value that the two actors bring on board, something that is notable for sure.
Closer home too, the film is seeing one of the widest releases ever for both the actors. The game has pretty much changed ever since Aishwarya was last seen on the big screen in Guzaarish (2010). In these five years,...

As expected, Singh Is Bliing took a record opening at the Box Office on Friday. As was predicted in this column on Thursday, the film was set to register around 20 crore on the opening day and this is exactly what happened when 20.67 crore came in. Given the fact that it was a national holiday on Friday, collections were bound to come down on Saturday (14.5 crore), though they did see an escalation again on Sunday (19.27 crore), hence pretty much going by the script.
As things stand today, the weekend collections stand at 54.44 crore. With this, Akshay Kumar has set a new opening weekend record for a film of his, hence surpassing Brothers (52.08 crore). Even for Prabhudheva, this is a new record as his last film with Akshay Kumar, Rowdy Rathore, had brought home 48 crore on the opening weekend. The film now needs to be stable over the weekdays in order to cross the 100 crore mark.

By now, we all know that the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to storm the silver screens with her much awaited comeback film Jazbaa. Even the film's posters were highly appreciated and added to excitement. The film produced by Sanjay Gupta, Nittin Keni, Akash Chawla, Sachiin K. Joshi, Raina Sachiin Joshi and Anuradha Gupta now has one more producer joining the team. And that producer is none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan herself! You heard it right. Besides acting in the film, it is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who is now also producing the film. When asked about the same, Jazbaa's director Sanjay Gupta went on record to say that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was always on board as the film's producer and it was just that they did not announce the same. Besides Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the film also stars Irrfan Khan, Shabana Azmi, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Jackie Shroff in prominent roles.

By now, we all know that Bollywood is the place where many a baseless rumours originate, and if things don't get clarified on time, the gossip columns waste no time in making a hill out of a mole. The same was the case with Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta. Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta, who have been thick friends and had an apparent fall-out, seem to be jelling once again. Though the gossip mongers maintained that the two men would never patch up again, here's something that will change their mind. According to sources close to Bollywood Hungama, Sanjay Dutt, after being granted a 30 day parole by the Pune Divisional Commissioner, was on his way back home from his dentist when he got a text from Sanjay Gupta. Being the true friend that he is, Dutt immediately went to the set of Sanjay Gupta's film Jazbaa. Both Gupta and Dutt met warmly.
