According to director Rob Hawk, all three of the major fighters - Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, and Cris Cyborg - maintained an emotional distance to each other during production. In particular, Hawk sensed an "invisible wall" between Tate and Holm which he believed stemmed from developments in their competitive careers that had Tate being replaced by Holm to fight Ronda Rousey for the UFC Bantamweight Championship.
