“The Talk” is going silent. CBS is ending the long-running daytime chat show, which will get an abbreviated final season (its 15th) this fall, before signing off for good with what it’s calling a “celebratory sendoff” in December.
Rumors of the show’s end have been swirling for months, but CBS made it official to the show’s cast and crew on Friday morning. The news comes as CBS and the NAACP are developing a new daytime soap opera under their content partnership, “The Gates,” a partnership with P&g Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. “The Gates,” which “follows the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community,” is seen as a potential replacement for “The Talk.”
In a joint statement, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios prexy David Stapf said, “’The Talk’ broke new ground when it launched 14 years ago by returning...

The reboot of “@midnight,” which originally ran on Comedy Central from 2013 to 2017, brought in 686,000 viewers to CBS during its Tuesday night premiere, according to Nielsen fast national figures.

The 12:30 a.m. premiere also scored CBS’ largest regularly scheduled audience in the hour time slot since the finale of “The Late Late Show” on April 27, 2023.

CBS gave its new late night series “After Midnight” a bit of a soft launch on Tuesday night, premiering the show with minimal fanfare in its 12:37 a.m. timeslot behind “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Comedian Taylor Tomlinson hosts the series, which tapes on the Paramount lot in Hollywood.
The decision to keep the “After Midnight” premiere lowkey is by design: Allow the new show to find its voice over the next few weeks, prior to the Super Bowl and return of first-run scripted series in February, when more eyeballs will be back at the broadcast networks.
“I’m Taylor Tomlinson and this is ‘After Midnight, where three comedians enter, one wins and two will regret participating,” she said in opening the first episode. “We’re taking the internet and desperately trying to make it fun. It’s gonna be fun, right? Comedians, you’ll be competing for...

Linda Rene once proved instrumental in weaving blue-chip advertisers like Anheuser-Busch and General Motors into a fledgling CBS reality competition called “Survivor.” Two decades later, she is planning to get off the island.
Rene, an advertising-sales veteran who has worked at CBS for more than four decades, helped expand an industry practice known as product placement and was pivotal in crafting new deals that not only had advertisers providing vehicles and beverages as set dressing, but weaving their products into a show in ways that made them as prominent as some of the cast members. Marketers were able to cut deals with CBS that guaranteed them a notable presence in programs such as “The Amazing Race” or “NCIS,” while agreeing to buy up traditional commercials in the series that bolstered their in-show appearances.

Kylie Jenner's son is officially legally named Aire Webster. According to court documents obtained by Popsugar, the mom of two filed to have his name legally changed from Wolf Jacques (the name she originally announced in 2022) on June 22, and a judge granted the change three months later on Sept. 29. The official switch comes 19 months after Aire was born on Feb. 2, 2022.
"The Court finds that the other parent was timely notified and has not filed an objection," the documents read, referring to Aire's dad, Travis Scott. "There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted."
According to Jenner, the name Wolf never felt like a fit for her second child, and in a teaser for the finale of "The Kardashians" season three, she revealed she'd "never" called him that. When the episode aired on July 27, Jenner said she almost immediately regretted sharing the moniker Wolf with the world after giving birth.

Los Angeles, Aug 3 (Ians) Pop star Joe Jonas has revealed one of his mortifying moments on stage and it’s definitely not him “s**tting” himself.
The ‘Burnin’ Up’ singer said during a question-and-answer session for Vanity Fair with his Jonas Brothers bandmates Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas that he found falling over on national TV more mortifying, reports aceshowbiz.com.
When Joe was asked to name his most embarrassing moment in life, Nick chimed in, “You s**t your pants!”. Kevin added, “You did. You s*** your pants.”
Joe said they were “incorrect” and his most traumatising moment during a show was when he fell “on national TV”. It seemed he was referring to the humiliating moment he attempted to walk through a shattered glass door during a stage set-up with his brothers at the 2007 American Music Awards, where he got his foot caught before falling to his knees on the broken glass.

The former One Direction star finally released his first single in two years and his first with Mercury Records, on July 21 after weeks of teasing fans with video clips and snippets. The summer track, titled "Love Like This," sees Malik riding around New York City on a motorbike, wearing black and red leathers, to entice his love interest. The video, directed by Ivanna and Frank Borin, leads to Malik passionately kissing actress Grace Dumdaw before the pair are lifted into the sky together.
Moments after the track premiered on YouTube, Malik took to Instagram to post a behind-the-scenes video with the caption: "Thanks for all the love!! without you, none of this is possible, can't tell you all how happy and grateful i am. peace and love." Naturally, thousands of followers were quick to comment on the song, although at the time of publishing, there...

Jon Stewart is back in the late-night Emmy race.
The Problem with Jon Stewart secured a nomination for Outstanding Talk Series alongside Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
This comes as Last Week Tonight with John Oliver was moved to the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series category this year following seven consecutive wins for Outstanding Variety Talk Series. Oliver will compete against Saturday Night Live (and A Black Lady Sketch Show) in that category.
Last year, The Problem with Jon Stewart was nominated in the Hosted Nonfiction (Series or Special) category. However, it lost out to Searching For Italy with Stanley Tucci in that category.
Stewart won the late-night Emmy ten years in a row between 2003 and 2012 and again in 2015 for his final season of The Daily Show in 2015.

Margot Robbie surprised everyone when she quietly married her then-longtime boyfriend, Tom Ackerley, in a secret ceremony in Australia back in 2016. Despite never announcing an engagement, the "Barbie" star confirmed the news of her nuptials by showing off a photo of her diamond ring on Instagram. While the pair have been together for a while now, there's never been much talk about their relationship, much less who Ackerley is aside from being the husband to one of Hollywood's biggest stars.
Over the years, Robbie and Ackerley have been sparingly photographed at industry events and lead a rather private life, only occasionally mentioning their romance in interviews. However, some people may still be wondering who exactly Robbie's husband is. Read ahead for everything we know about him, including why his wife once referred to him as "the best-looking guy in London."

“The Talk” has found its new showrunner.
Hours after revealing that longtime executive producer Kristin Matthews is stepping down as showrunner after 13 years with the Emmy-winning talk show, CBS announced Friday that “The Late Late Show” executive producer Rob Crabbe will step up as showrunner for Season 14.
“I’ve loved my experience working with CBS these past eight years, and am thrilled and honored that George, Amy and David have trusted me with their signature daytime talk show,” Crabbe said in a statement obtained by TheWrap. “I’m excited by the opportunity to help bring some joy and thoughtful conversation to viewers with these five incredibly talented hosts.”

Exclusive: The late-night community is over the moon after it emerged that there will be five Emmy nominations this year.
Emmy voting opened today, and Deadline understands that there are 19 submissions in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category, far more than expected, which, given the math, means that there will be five nominations this year.
One late-night source told Deadline this was “unexpected” but a “positive” move, meaning that that the sector no longer has to lament the loss of another Emmy slot.
Given that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has been moved to the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series category this year after seven consecutive wins for Outstanding Variety Talk Series, it is a boon for The Daily Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live!
It could also the door to shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon...

CBS chief George Cheeks has said the broadcaster is maintaining a “fluid and active” approach as it curates its fall programming schedule amid month two of the writers strike.
The executive, who took on his new remit at CBS just weeks before the pandemic struck in March 2020, said the streamers’ series model poses “serious challenges” for writers that the whole industry will need to “figure out” in the long term.
Cheeks was speaking as part of a wide-ranging keynote session at the Banff World Media Festival in Alberta, Canada, where Paramount Global has been the most prominent studio on the ground.
CBS unveiled its fall programming schedule on May 10 — just over a week after strike action got underway — though it’s likely going to look a little different given the writers strike and a potential actors strike on the horizon. Whether he’s on his way to work or just rolling through his hometown of London, England, James Corden always makes time for a good ole carpool karaoke.
Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” performances may be what he’s most know for, having had notable talents from Usher, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and more singing along in the passenger seat. “The Late Late Show with James Corden” host credits singer/songwriter George Michael as the inspiration behind the segment, as the late Wham! singer as his first “Carpool Karaoke” guest when they appeared in the skit back in 2011 for a British charity. Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski are a dynamic duo. On June 1, the couple stepped out for the NYC premiere of "The Crowded Room," holding hands as they graced the red carpet together. The upcoming Apple TV+ drama stars Seyfried as Rya Goodwin, an interrogator determined to unravel the case of Danny Sullivan (Tom Holland), who is facing trial for a shooting. Sadoski, an actor in his own right, showed support for his wife at the event, smiling and interlocking arms as they walked around Midtown before the premiere.
Seyfried and Sadoski initially met on set of the off-Broadway show "The Way We Get By" in 2015, sparking dating rumors in March 2016 after they were photographed on a date in LA. Seyfried then announced they were expecting their first child together - a daughter named Nina - during a Givenchy press event, debuting her baby bump for the very first time. The...

Directioners, it's definitely not the time to give up hope for a One Direction renaissance. Ever since One Direction split in 2016, rumors have been circulating on pretty much a monthly basis about whether Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik will ever reunite. They've been dispelled time and time again, but according to Horan, although a musical reunion may not be on the way, the band is very much still in contact.
In a May 25 interview with E! News, Horan shared that the former bandmates still regularly correspond. "We've had three or four group chats," he said, sharing that there's now a new, particularly active one. "Some of them have been more quiet than others. This new one is definitely louder than most, and it's been great," he said. "I'm sure if I had a look at my phone in a few minutes I'd see some messages.

Sony Pictures Television has optioned “Is it Hot in Here? (Or Am I Suffering for All Eternity for the Sins I Committed on Earth),” the debut collection of essays from comedian and writer Zach Zimmerman, for TV adaptation.
“Is it Hot in Here?” is described as a “memoir-esque exploration of selfhood” chronicling Zimmerman’s journey from being a “straight, meat-eating, Southern Baptist to a queer, vegetarian, atheist socialist,” including stories about them learning to overcome their religious guilt or reminiscing over Tinder dates gone wrong. Published by Chronicle Books, “Is it Hot in Here?” was released on April 18.
The option is the second commitment between Sony Pictures Television and Zimmerman, who secured a blind script deal at the studio in 2022.
Zimmerman has previously written essays and humor pieces for the New Yorker, McSweeney’s, the Washington Post and the Independent. They also hosted and wrote for the Scruff trivia game “Hosting,...

James Corden's time as a late-night host has officially come to an end. And what better way to bid farewell to "The Late Late Show" than to call upon his buddy Tom Cruise, don a meerkat costume, and join in on a Broadway performance of "The Lion King"? Yes, really.
The concept of James Corden and Tom Cruise crashing a Broadway show might sound insane, but just take a moment to truly process those words. In a way, this was the inevitable conclusion of Corden's late-night reign.
Since taking over "The Late Late Show" in 2015, Corden has been finding new (and increasingly strange) ways to combine his love of theater with the star-studded nature of his talk show. This has led to performance-heavy recurring segments like "Carpool Karaoke," "Drop The Mic" and "Riff-Off." When the opportunity arises, Corden's love of Broadway takes centerstage, so it only makes sense for...

Will Ferrell, like a batter strolling confidently to the plate, walked through the curtain Thursday night for the final “Late Late Show With James Corden” with a sledgehammer over his shoulder.
It then took Ferrell all of 28 seconds to stamp his mark on the farewell proceedings.
And stamp, he did — or more specifically, smash.
In trademark “Late Late Show” fashion, Ferrell was paired up for his appearance with pop star and actor extraordinaire Harry Styles.

Ferrell was introduced after Styles, and an indicator of what followed came immediately as the curtain parted. Ferrell wielded a smile and, slung over his right shoulder, a sledgehammer.
Ferrell quickly made his way to the stage, only dropping the sledgehammer from his shoulder after Corden approached for the customary hug.
“Back off!” Ferrell yelled, motioning for Corden to move out of the way.

The war for late-night television has turned into a friendly neighborhood block party. Take Thursday’s final episode of “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” where departing host James Corden managed to bring together every single one of his network competitors – including fellow CBS host Stephen Colbert, NBC hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, and ABC host Jimmy Kimmel – for a funny sketch that called back to the end of “Newhart.”
The assembly of late-night Avengers started with Corden asleep in his bed, rolling over to find Meyers kneeling beside him.
“You can’t just leave a talk show,” Meyers said before Kimmel revealed himself.
“If we’re going to let you leave, you’re going to keep our sacred secrets,” Kimmel added.
Asked what they meant, Meyers suggested how late-night hosts don’t actually watch a lot of the projects their guests are promoting while Kimmel discussed their fake laughs during celebrity anecdotes.
