Producers Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Jeffrey are building a cinematic universe out of horror movies based on public domain family friendly stories – including Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, that film’s sequels, Pinocchio Unstrung, and Bambi: The Reckoning, which is inspired by Felix Salten’s 1923 novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods. The Bambi horror movie started filming back in January, aiming to make its way out into the world sometime this fall, and today a teaser trailer has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.

The 4:30 Movie is the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith – and as reported on Deadline (plus Smith’s own social media accounts), this film has officially secured a distribution deal that will see it reaching theatres sometime this summer! Saban Films has picked up the worldwide rights to The 4:30 Movie, which Smith will be taking on a multi-city national tour that will be followed by a nationwide theatrical rollout. Specific dates have not yet been revealed.
Set in the summer of 1986, this one is a coming-of-age comedy that follows three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local multiplex. But when one of the guys also invites the girl of his dreams to see the latest comedy, each of the teens will learn something serious about life and love before the credits roll.

"Tusk" was a theatrical experience that I will never forget. The trailer did not give much away, and it was difficult to tell whether Kevin Smith was aiming for parody or serious horror. Was this really about someone being held captive by a seaman with an affinity for walruses? The idea for "Tusk" began with a SModcast episode where Smith and his friend/producer Scott Mosier poked fun at a classified advertisement made by a homeowner who offered free lodging to someone if they dressed as a walrus for two hours a day. The strange, real-life story inspired a brainstorming session about how they might bring the story to life on film.
"I could have easily just been like, 'Oh, that was a stupid stoner idea that I won't follow through on,' but, I don't know, there seemed to be a lot of nobility in taking a stoner idea...

A couple days ago, we shared the news that writer/director Rhys Frake-Waterfield has secured distribution in multiple territories for a sequel to his horror twist on a beloved children’s story, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. But that’s not the only project Frake-Waterfield has in the works. He’s planning to build a cinematic universe out of horror movies based on public domain family friendly stories – including Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare and Bambi: The Reckoning. Now The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Bambi: The Reckoning has also secured distribution in multiple territories.

Kevin Smith has detailed his latest health scare, revealing that earlier this year, he suffered a “complete break from reality”–and no, he’s not talking about writing a fourth Clerks.
On his mental health, Kevin Smith told People that he had a breakdown in January, even hinting at some seriously dark thoughts that went through his mind. “At that moment, I wouldn’t have been averse to not being around any longer. I called a friend and said, ‘I’m in a weird, dark place. I need to go somewhere and get help.’”
As a result, Kevin Smith checked himself into a treatment center to get professional help for his health. He also reflected on his time attending therapy sessions, although he initially felt a bit guilty since he was in a group that included people suffering from Ptsd. “In the beginning, it was tough to share when somebody...

Kevin Smith has finally managed to get Clerks III out into the world, years after he first announced that he wanted to make the film. So now it’s about time for him to move on to the next project. Looking ahead to the future, we have put together a list of Kevin Smith Movies We Want to See – and you can see the result below! Check it out, then let us know what Kevin Smith movies you most want to see by leaving a comment.
Mallrats 2
Smith’s 1995 film Mallrats wasn’t a box office success, but that hasn’t stopped talk of a sequel coming up here and there over the years – whether it would be a “Die Hard in a Mall” scenario, a limited series, or something completely different. The problem is that Mallrats is a Universal property, so Smith can’t do anything with it unless the studio is on board.

After his heart attack in 2018, Kevin Smith isn't even supposed to be here today — but boy, are we glad he still is! The New Jersey native with the gift of the gab has spent the better part of the past three decades willing his whimsy into reality. They say write about what you know, and Smith has made a solid career out of doing precisely that, much to the adoration of his die-hard fans across the globe.
It's more than that though. As one of the original indie filmmakers of the early '90s, Smith proved that anyone could make a movie. While Quentin Tarantino splattered us with blood and Wes Anderson perfected immaculate shots, Smith seemed like one of us — just a regular guy, with a regular life, who loved dissecting the big issues of the day like movies, TV, and the logistics of building a Death Star.

Last week, Justin Long mentioned that Kevin Smith had recently gotten in contact with him, Haley Joel Osment, and Genesis Rodriguez – his co-stars in Smith’s 2014 horror film Tusk (watch it Here) – to let them know that a sequel to Tusk is in their future. After Long’s quote made the news rounds, Smith took the opportunity to confirm his Tusk sequel plans on an episode of Fatman Beyond, the podcast he hosts with Marc Bernardin. Although Smith has previously said he intended to put Long and Rodriguez’s Tusk characters in his killer moose movie Moose Jaws, the sequel he’s planning is not Moose Jaws. It is indeed a Tusk 2… or, as Smith is calling it Tusks. But the S at the end is a dollar sign: Tusk.

The 2014 horror film Tusk (watch it Here) was meant to be the first installment in what writer/director Kevin Smith was calling his “True North Trilogy”, to be followed by Yoga Hosers – which did get made – and the killer moose movie Moose Jaws – which we’re still waiting for. But in late 2020, Smith said he had an idea for a Tusk 2 as well… and according to Tusk star Justin Long, it sounds like he’s ready to start pushing the sequel idea toward production.
Speaking with Slash Film, Long said,
You’ll be happy to hear, Kevin just announ– I mean, I guess they’re talking about it. They’re doing Tusk 2, I think. … He texted us all the other day, Haley [Joel Osment] and Genesis [Rodriguez], and he told us that he wanted to do it, and I thought it was a joke. And then I realized he was being serious.

How a 1994 indie hit from Kevin Smith gave birth to an unlikely franchise...
In 1993, Kevin Smith made a movie. Clerks was shot in black and white over the course of three weeks, at night, in the convenience store where Smith worked during the day, on a shoestring budget of $27,575. Smith funded the film himself by dipping into his savings, selling all his comics and maxing out several credit cards.
Even though it became an indie phenomenon when it was picked up by Bob and Harvey Weinstein's Miramax (who gave it a new soundtrack using a post-production budget that was ten times the cost of principal photography) at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival, it doesn't have 'franchise starter' written all over it.
Long considered a Gen X touchstone, Clerks is a funny and filthy slice of life movie, which equates a working day for Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) to his namesake's Inferno.

Superman Lives, The Green Hornet and sadly now Clerks III: here’s a rundown of the Kevin Smith films we’ll probably never see...
Kevin Smith has always had to fight to get his films off the ground: he started his filmmaking career by maxing out multiple credit cards to self-finance Clerks, and more recently, legend has it, it was only Johnny Depp’s decision to come on board as a wacky supporting character that allowed Smith to secure financing for his walrus-centric horror flick Tusk.
Smith has, across his career, been offered several barmy jobs (he rejected a chance to pen Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian back in the 90s) and he’s also signed up for a lot of projects that never got past the script phase.
The latter camp of could’ve-beens is what we’re talking about today, following that news that Clerks III...

People who keep tabs on the career of jersey and Jersey-loving film auteur Kevin Smith know that there’s basically three versions of him running around at the moment. There’s the one who’s busy working in TV, directing well-received episodes of DC superhero shows like The Flash and Supergirl. There’s weird Canada Kevin Smith, serving up bizarro projects like Tusk, Yoga Hosers, and the planned third part in his True North trilogy, Moose Jaws. And there’s optimistic/nostalgic Kevin Smith, the guy who’s always promising that a sequel to one of his classic films like Clerks or Mallrats is right around the corner, despite the fact that the universe never seems to get on board. Now, that third Smith has a new project, announcing on Facebook that he’s written a script for Jay And Silent Bob Reboot.

Kevin Smith gives an update on Clerks III and Mallrats 2 - and reveals that his next film is a Jay & Silent Bob reunion...
“This is not a drill,” Kevin Smith is going to reimagine Jay and Silent Bob in a new movie.
“My next flick will star @JayMewes and is entitled Jay And Silent Bob Reboot,” Smith wrote to Twitter.
Director Smith, of course, plays Silent Bob, one half of a dope-dealing duo that hung outside the comic book shop in his 1994 movie debut Clerks. As befitting his name, Silent Bob doesn’t have much to say, he leaves that to Jay, played by Jason Mewes. The pair reunited for Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), and Clerks II (2006) in cameo roles before taking revenge with their own movie, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back from 2001.

You’re nothing in Hollywood unless you have a million and a half dead projects in your wake. Just look at Guillermo del Toro. The man has no less than 75 of them going on at a time, and almost all of them tend to get pushed to the wayside for one reason or another. Writer/director/podcaster/geek Kevin Smith is no exception to this rule. These past few years have been pretty busy for the creative stoner, In a relatively short amount of time, he’s put a couple films (Tusk and Yoga Hosers), developed even more films that include Moose Jaws, Clerks III and Mallrats 2 — the last of which he tried to turn into a series — and that’s not even including his directing work on shows like The Flash and Supergirl. For a stoner, the man sure knows how to stay productive.

Few filmmakers are better self-promoters than Kevin Smith, who has mastered the art over the course of two decades. Ever since the breakout success of 1994’s “Clerks,” Smith has developed his public persona as a hilarious foul-mouthed geek in tandem with movies that often reflected that sensibility. Today, Smith remains as visible than ever, less because of his movies than because of countless public appearances, a regular podcast, two television series and social media. He’s less pure filmmaker than self-made media machine.
But Smith still makes movies: He took a hiatus after the self-distributed “Red State,” and has since launched into his so-called “True North” trilogy of wacky Canadian tales. After the absurdist comedy-horror of “Tusk,” Smith premiered “Yoga Hosers” at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Thanks to my surprisingly contrarian adoration of Kevin Smith (amongst critics, at least), I sat down for Yoga Hosers filled with curious excitement. One Kevin Smith movie packs more personality than some filmmakers produce over an entire career, and his daddy-daughter feature teased bizarre delicacies beyond Earthly words.
Alas, my take on Smith’s Canadian zero-to-hero nightmare aligns with most other negative views, but it’s still an admirably passionate project that I salute the renegade director for tackling. Smith takes tremendous creative risks every time he pens a script, and sometimes they become Clerks, or Tusk, or Zack And Miri Make A Porno, while other times they’re Yoga Hosers. It’s a numbers game, really.
So – regrettably – let’s get to the not fun part.
Yoga Hosers is a hollow genre mashup that can be best described as Buzzfeed meets Jem And The Holograms meets a neat-enough podcast discussion.

Yoga Hosers, the second of writer-director Kevin Smith’s planned True North trilogy – following up on Tusk and paving the way for Moose Jaws – has premiered an all-new trailer featuring Nazis, cartoonish humor, and Johnny Depp.
Due to land in theaters on July 29, Smith’s zany horror comedy revolves around Lily-Rose Depp and Harley Quinn Smith’s pair of luckless teenagers. As two self-proclaimed yoga fanatics, the duo are left defending their local convenience store Eh-2-Zed from an ancient, fascist evil that awakens from deep beneath the earth. Expect Canadian jokes and punch lines aplenty.
Here’s the official synopsis:
15-year-old yoga-nuts Colleen Collette and Colleen McKenzie love their smart phones and hate their after school job at Manitoban convenience store Eh-2-Zed. We spoke to actor and frequent Kevin Smith collaborator Jason Mewes about his new movies Bling, Yoga Hosers, MallBrats and Clerks III…
Clerks is one of the movies that made me love movies, and so it was with more pre-interview nerves than usual that I waited on hold to connect with Jay actor Jason Mewes via a crackly international phone-line.
We were due to talk about the animated movie Bling - in which Mewes voices a robot monkey called Kit, who shirks his responsibilities as a theme park employee to help the main character (voiced by Taylor Kitsch) take down a super villain and propose to his girlfriend – but the memory of all the nights I’ve spent chuckling away to Jay and Silent Bob’s antics had put some serious fear into me.
I needn’t have worried, because Mewes proved to be a lovely chap to chat with,...

Kevin Smith just premiered his new movie Yoga Hosers at the Sundance Film Festival, and while introducing that film, he spoke a little about the upcoming third and final film in his "True North" trilogy (movies set in Canada). Following in the wake of Tusk and Yoga Hosers, the new movie is called Moose Jaws, and it's a beat-for-beat remake of Steven Spielberg's classic Jaws — except instead of a shark, there's a killer moose on the loose. Smith has revealed that Jay and Silent Bob will make an appearance, and Silent Bob is going to be eaten by the moose, reminiscent of Quint in Jaws.
Slashfilm was in attendance at the Sundance screening when Smith gave even more spoilery info about Moose Jaws:
After reiterating the Jaws influence, Smith said that around the time he was working on the third act, he didn’t just want to copy Spielberg anymore.

Kevin Smith’s latest directorial effort, Yoga Hosers, had its premiere in the midnight lineup of Sundance last night, and to mark the event, the man himself debuted the first clip from the movie, featuring the two leads, his own daughter Harley Quinn and Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily Rose. The second installment of the True North trilogy, after Tusk and preceding Moose Jaws (Jaws. With a moose), Yoga Hosers follows Smith and Depp as two teenagers whose plans to attend the coolest high school party of the year are threatened by an ancient evil buried underneath the convenience store where they work. But you won’t find any that here, as the first clip has a serious 'Canadian Clerks’ vibe, with the director’s love of Degrassi Junior High shining through, and shows that the lead pair are actually pretty charming together. This is definitely promises to be the...

As Sundance and Slamdance prepare to kick off this week some insiders have predicted there could be a surge of activity from digital platforms besides Netflix and Amazon Studios.
The latter two are expected to be active – and indeed have already taken a few Park City titles off the table – yet there is talk of other well-capitalised companies mulling over a splashy entry into the acquisitions arena.
The Sundance Film Festival runs from January 21-31.
Nimble digital platforms challenge traditional buyers
Faced with sharp digital rivals unencumbered by the need to spend on costly P&A and plugged into transactional data that enables them to target audiences with forensic precision, theatrical buyers will need to be on their toes.
The distribution landscape is crowded and unforgiving, yet creative marketing campaigns can pave the way to success.
Among others, A24 did it with Ex Machina and Fox Searchlight reaped rewards with its 2015 Sundance pick-up Brooklyn, earning Oscar nods...

Kevin Smith's Yoga Hosers and Rob Zombie's 31 are among the nine films that will have their world premiere during the Midnight portion of the Sundance Film Festival, which runs January 21-31, 2016.
The oddly named Yoga Hosers marks the second film in the director's True North trilogy, following Tusk. As described by the Sundance fest (via Variety), "Colleen Collette and Colleen McKenzie are teenage besties from Winnipeg who love yoga and live on their smartphones. There’s no place quite like Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival. I’ve been lucky enough to attend and it’s really something to behold. The fest is this bustling adventure in a small mountain town, filled to the brim with independent films of all types. It also takes place right in the heart of Oscar season, so as we close the book on one year, another begins to sprout up with their would be Academy players. We can’t know yet if any will be there this year, but Sundance has announced the first wave of their genre fare, including the movie from Kevin Smith, one of their biggest indie success stories… Smith is one of my favorite filmmakers ever, a unique voice if ever there was one. Recently, he’s gone back down a very indie road, starting at Sundance about five years ago or...

Two things have come to identify Kevin Smith over the course of his career: his beloved hockey jerseys; and his iconic character, Silent Bob. Today, we learn that the writer/director/podcaster is preparing to rid himself of one. and it ain.t the plus-sized apparel. That.s right, Kevin Smith admitted in an interview with the Australian news outlet news.com.au that an upcoming sequence in his planned homage to Jaws titled Moose Jaws (you read that correctly) will be a tragic death scene for Silent Bob. The way Smith describes it, Moose Jaws will be part of his unofficial Canadian trilogy (which also includes Tusk and Yoga Hosers), and will operate like Steven Spielberg.s Jaws, only with a moose in place of the shark. I.m not kidding. So, as Smith elaborates: I was talking to Jay [Mewes] about Moose Jaws and I.m like, .I. ...

Back before cinematic universes became all the rage, filmmaker Kevin Smith had his View Askewniverse which linked multiple films like Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy, etc. as being part of the same 'world', one in which stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob were recurring characters.
More recently the New Jersey director has been focused on his 'True North Trilogy', his Canadian-set films which began with the already released "Tusk," continues with the already shot "Yoga Hoosers" and will end with the upcoming "Moose Jaws".
In a new social media posting about how "Moose Jaws" is progressing, Smith revealed that the film may end up combining the two big screen worlds into one if an idea he's considering goes forward:
After @tuskthemovie and next year's #YogaHosers, my True North Trilogy will end with #MooseJaws. I'm working on the...

The cinematic stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob are best known for their appearances in what writer/director Kevin Smith refers to as his "View Askewniverse" movies, but soon the pair may find themselves invading another one of the filmmaker's own cinematic universe. It turns out that the New Jersey director is considering featuring the the two characters in the third chapter of what he's described as his "True North Trilogy" - which would essentially combine the two big screen worlds. As he has been known to do, Kevin Smith posted a message to fans about the progress of his latest work, and in doing so teased the possibility of having the stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob show up in his upcoming film Moose Jaws (the third in the Canadian trilogy that includes Smith's movie Tusk and the upcoming Yoga Hosers). The man known as the Sauce Boss will soon make a major mark on the big screen. Harley Morenstein, who rose to prominence as the ringleader of the Epic Meal Time YouTube channel, will have a leading role in Moose Jaws, an upcoming horror film from director Kevin Smith.
Morenstein recently announced his starring role in Moose Jaws through a Facebook post he authored on his personal account. “Couldn't really mention this before, but since it's now on IMDb I guess it's public knowledge,” he wrote. “This is an extremely surreal experience and I'm so excited I have this opportunity. Sometimes logistics force a filmmaker’s hand. Originally Kevin Smith was aiming to shoot Mallrats 2 in 2016, after Clerks 3, Hit Somebody, and Moose Jaws. However, Smith and his team found a mall they can shoot in and seriously mess up that won’t be around next year. Because of that, he just announced he’s going to make Mallrats […]

As Kevin Smith originally laid it out, Clerks 3 would have been the next film he would shoot, followed by Hit Somebody and Moose Jaws. Mallrats 2 came out of nowhere and was looking at principal photography some time in 2016. As you may have noticed, Smith has been assembling the original cast like no other and this snowball effect pushed the production of Mallrats 2 into 2015. Now it looks as if Mallrats 2 will be the very next film Smith will shoot, cutting in front of Clerks 3. Kevin Smith...

As a pretty big fan of filmmaker Kevin Smith, I tend to be inclined to support whatever project he’s interested in making, be it a new movie, a new podcast, or anything in between. Even so, I was initially a bit confused as to why Smith was looking to follow up Clerks III (which I’m hugely looking forward to) and his next two Canadian set genre outings (this year’s Yoga Hosers and the still to be shot Moose Jaws) with a sequel to Mallards. Yes, it’s developed over the years from a box office disappointment to one of his most beloved titles, but was anyone yearning for Mallrats 2? Then, I listened to Smith explain why and now, not just am I on board, I think it has the potential to be the rare 90’s movie reunion that really works. The reason that Smith decided to make...

Kevin Smith has wasted no time assembling his Mallrats 2 cast, despite several other projects (Clerks III, Hit Somebody, Moose Jaws) initially standing between now and then. Last we heard, Smith assembled Jason Mewes, Stan Lee and Michael Rooker to take a return trip to the mall. Today we have confirmation that (arguably) the star of the show has returned; Jason Lee. While the story of Mallrats didn't win anyone over, Jason Lee's performance as Brodie Bruce did, and paved the...

It was about this time last week that Kevin Smith confirmed that he is writing Mallrats 2. It's a film that won't see the light of day (if ever) until after Clerks III, Hit Somebody, and Moose Jaws are in the can, but it's there. While Jay and Silent Bob seem like a given as far as returning characters go, it looks like those aren't the only supporting characters that will be found in the mall once again. Earlier today, Smith posted a picture on his Facebook...

In light of an innocent update via his social media hubs, Kevin Smith has now confirmed what we suspected all along: he’s making Mallrats 2. “I hate to disappoint people but, yes, I am doing a Mallrats sequel,” he declared in his regular podcast Hollywood Babble-on, after posting a message to Twitter and Facebook that concluded with the words “I smell a rat…”
The director, currently prepping to shoot Clerks III in May, took to the mic to deliver the details on the long-awaited sequel. Smith told his avid listeners the reason behind the decision to roll out a follow-up some twenty years after the original hit cinemas and bombed. His friend and producer on Mallrats James Jacks, had always joked and pushed Smith to make another. When he sadly passed away last year, his death sparked something inside of the filmmaker. He decided to develop a sequel in honor of his long-time friend.
