The Minecraft movie has found its director in Rob McElhenney, a somewhat surprise choice to steer one of gaming's biggest ever franchises. So who is he?
McElhenney is best known for his role as Mac on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a show about a group of anti-social pub owners who struggle their way through adulthood. It's gained a cult following, and 10 years and 114 episodes later, is still going strong.
Not only does he star in the sitcom, but he's also its co-creator and co-writer alongside Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day. As well as writing and acting chops, he's been behind the camera directing a few of its episodes, including the show's pilot.
Here's Rob McElhenney and his co-stars discussing Always Sunny (be warned of some cursing in the clip, which is pretty representative of what you'd expect from the show):

His only experience as a director to this point has been on two early episodes of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and a pilot for an FX series called Pariah starring Bill Burr. He's actually the second filmmaker to take the reins of Minecraft, as it was originally set up as a project to be made by Night At The Museum's...
