Dev Patel refused to let the slew of injuries he suffered while filming his elaborate fight scenes in “Monkey Man” get in the way of him completing the movie.
Patel not only directed and co-wrote the action movie, but he also stars as Kid, a young man who seeks to avenge his mother’s death at the hands of India’s corrupt law enforcement officials, political figures and spiritual leaders. He earns money by competing in a brutally violent underground fight club.
While Patel recently outlined the many production hurdles he had to overcome to make the film in a Reddit Ama, Variety caught up with him at the “Monkey Man” premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday to talk about the film’s impact on his body during the four-month shoot in Indonesia. “I broke my hand in the first big action scene, broke some toes, tore a shoulder, eye infections,...

BBC sitcom Motherland has ended, according to star Diane Morgan, but a spin-off starring Lucy Punch is in the works. Here are the details:
The BBC sitcom Motherland has been quietly cancelled by the BBC, series regular Diane Morgan has confirmed. In an interview with The Times (as picked up by Chortle), Morgan talked about the third series of her sitcom Mandy, which returns to BBC Two tonight. But when Morgan was asked whether Motherland had ended, she confirmed it had, saying, “I hate to say it, because I still get women running up to me with prams in the street asking me when it’s coming back”.
The last episode was the 2022 Christmas special.
However, Morgan also said that a spin-off about Lucy Punch’s character, Amanda, was being considered, saying, “It’ll live on through her. The ladies with the prams will be pleased, hopefully”.

As we’re now deep into the middle of the first quarter of the “cinema year” of 2024, here comes yet another horror thriller creeping into the multiplexes. And just what sets this one apart from the other “spook-taculars”? Well, it does concern a disparate group of chiller flick tropes all fighting for survival as their companions are picked off “one by one”. Not unique, but this one’s setting is very different. This story takes place on the desolate landscape of this planet over 45,000 years ago. And no, in case you’re wondering, CGI-created kajiu aren’t the culprits. But something strange and weird is roaming about, an entity or creature (perhaps plural) that’s stalking this group, then striking from Out Of Darkness.
We first meet this motley “tribe” huddled around a flickering fire surrounded by pitch black. A preteen lad named Heron (Luna Mwezi) pleads with his father...

IndieGala has been plugging away at their Survival Horror game Vorax for a while now. And with Steam Next Fest right around the corner, the team has dropped a preview highlighting the upcoming 0.7 Next Fest update for Vorax, which is heading towards an Early Access release later this year on Steam.
According to the team, the update revamps many of the locations in the game, with the focus being on the caves and the monsters residing inside. “Drenched” in mutagenic tissue, the caves function as nests and hatcheries for these creatures, which happen to be larger and stronger than the foes you’d normally encounter on the island.
The update will be included in a new demo for Steam Next Fest, along with the open Alpha for Vorax. The demo will be limited to one square kilometer, as opposed to the final game’s 10 square kilometres.

"In the jungle, she's a 'beta.' But out here, she's an 'alpha.'" Gravitas Ventures + Iconic Events have unveiled the first official trailer for Slotherhouse, the hilariously fun new slasher horror film featuring a killer sloth. Yes, seriously, it's real – and amazing. It's described as a "delightfully over-the-top and movie about a sloth that goes on a killing spree in a sorority..." In the spirit of M3GAN, Cocaine Bear, and the Chucky / Child's Play series, though I'd reckon it's more like Gremlins or Critters. Emily Young wants to be elected as her sorority's president. She adopts a cute sloth, thinking it can become the new mascot and help her win, until a string of fatalities implicate the sloth as the main suspect in the murders. It's time to meet Alpha the Killer Sloth. Starring Lisa Ambalavanar, Sydney Craven, Olivia Rouyre, Bianca Beckles-Rose, Andrew Horton, Sutter Nolan, and Grace Patterson.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, a whopping 61 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12. Last year, there were only 48 options, compared to 41 in 2021 and 28 in 2020.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. A new rule change will require each voter to make no more than five selections in this category, whereas there was previously no limit. As opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

Exclusive: While the title character ended John Wick: Chapter 4 under a headstone, the John Wick franchise is alive and kicking for Lionsgate. This week, Lionsgate brass got a first look at Ballerina, its Len Wiseman-helmed spinoff film that stars Ana de Armas and brings back Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, the late Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston. The big question is, after the last film grossed over $400 million on a $90 million budget, what right minded studio would retire a franchise that just turned in its highest gross and best reviews?

Scott Z. Burns’ dystopian drama on Apple TV, “Extrapolations,” premiered the finale episode today, and we can say that it’s something to look forward to, at least in this world. It’s the year 2070, and Nick Bilton, the CEO of Alpha Industries, is the primary focus of the episode. We’d first seen him in the very first episode, a young man in his early 20s, full of vitality and an indomitable hunger to make billions. By Episode 8, Bilton is perpetually sweaty, his skin stretched eerily to keep it from sagging, his back hunched, and he’s having a hard time hiding his white hair. He’s old and weak, but his desire to kick the planet where he was born hasn’t abandoned him, and he still looks down on anyone who’s not him. The episode focuses on the case of ecocide—causing irreparable damage to the...

Scott Z. Burns’ drama about the dystopian future of our world, “Extrapolations,” dropped its penultimate episode on Apple+ today, and once again, it pointed us to a world we’re most definitely heading towards if carbon emissions aren’t curbed immediately. The last episode featured 2066, where one man named Ezra Haddad struggled to save the memories of his wife by uploading his failing memory into cloud storage but failed. Episode 7 begins on the last day of 2068, where the newest invention by Alpha, LifePause, has been launched and allows people to put a literal pause on their lives and keep their consciousness stored in a digital state until the earth is healthy enough to return. Against the backdrop of a severely polluted San Francisco and such scientific advancements, one New Year’s Eve party goes awry when the host makes an announcement. Here’s what happens in the seventh episode of “Extrapolations.

Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland in ‘The Night Agent’ Season 1 | Dan Power/Netflix Will there be another season of ‘The Night Agent’ on Netflix?
The Night Agent was originally pitched as a limited series with 10 episodes. However, season 1 became an immediate success, climbing to the top of Netflix’s Top 10 upon its release. It looked like life-long bonds were formed on Netflix’s Outlast. However, there was also trust that was broken. Jill Ashock revealed she doesn’t plan to speak to Justin Court again after working together.
[Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from Outlast Season 1 Episode 8.]
What happened between ‘Outlast’ contestants Jill Ashock and Justin Court?
The season started with the 16 contestants randomly picking their teams. Amber Asay, Lee Ettinger, Ashock, and Court made it into Camp Alpha on the reality TV show. But it was clear that Ashock wasn’t looking forward to working with other people, and neither was Court. The show, which has actor Jason Bateman as an executive producer, has one rule. They have to be in a team to win.
“Man-Down” showed Ashock and Asay hiking to the island while low-tied to find their crab traps. This was after Court failed to complete the raft after all the other camps. The women were...

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers.
Star Trek: Picard is covering a lot of ground in its final season. Not only is the show a proper sendoff to The Next Generation crew but a continuation of conflicts from Deep Space Nine and even a postscript to the movie First Contact. There’s a lot going on in the Alpha Quadrant, and the latest episode of season 3, “No Win Scenario,” ups the ante even more by including a major reference to a classic Voyager villain.
In a flashback, we watch as retired Admiral Jean-Luc Picard has his meal interrupted by a group of excited Starfleet cadets who have tons of questions about his past adventures. Picard recounts a few for them, including his encounter with the Tamarians in the classic Next Generation episode “Darmok.” But then he references an adventure we’ve never seen before: a conflict involving the Hirogen,...

This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Picard."
The third season of "Star Trek: Picard" brings back a lot of fan-favorite concepts and characters from the beloved series "Star Trek: The Next Generation," but it has also resurrected a major plot point from one of its contemporaries, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." In episode 3 (read our review here!), Worf (Michael Dorn) and Raffi (Michelle Hurd) discover that, after the events of the Dominion War, the Changelings splintered into two factions: one connected to the Great Link, with Odo (René Auberjonois), and another that wanted to complete the domination goals of the Founders and get revenge on the Federation and the whole Alpha Quadrant. There's also a Changeling aboard the Titan, wreaking havoc and sabotaging the ship at every turn. The Changelings are back in a big way, and they don't necessarily require an understanding of the...

In the final showdown in A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, Jobu Tupaki’s (Stephanie Hsu) chaotic ensemble — like the omnipotent and omniscient antagonist herself — contains multitudes, starting with her alter-ego Joy’s overwhelming emotions. Costume designer and stylist Shirley Kurata assembled remnants of Jobu’s outrageous multiverse-jumping personas, each of which terrorizes her distracted mother, laundromat owner Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh). The first-time Oscar nominee also says she “draped and pieced together” an infusion of sartorial influences, pulled from her encyclopedic fashion knowledge. As Jobu violently resists Evelyn’s outreach, Comme des Garçons-inspired volume and billowing swatches of Vivienne Westwood-referential tartans come alive.
“[Fashion is] just ingrained in me. It’s part of my DNA,” says Kurata. She began her career styling shoots for fashion photographer Autumn de Wilde, who later directed 2020’s Emma. An alum of the avant-garde Studio Berçot in Paris, Kurata has been concocting storytelling runways and...

Plot: Criminals from South Korea take control of the cargo ship that’s taking them back home from the Philippines… and then the genetic experiment that’s also on board gets loose. A bloodbath ensues.
Review: Writer/director Kim Hong-seon’s movie Project Wolf Hunting doesn’t have a great title – and the filmmakers were clearly aware of that, because when a character in the movie sees a folder with “Project Wolf Hunting” on it, their response is, “How tacky.” Apparently the literal translation of the South Korean production’s title in its home country would be Project Wolf Hunt or simply Wolf Hunt, both of which at least sound better than the English title the movie was given. That “ing” at the end does make a difference. But as cheesy as Project Wolf Hunting sounds, it’s a title we’re probably going to hear referenced quite often going forward,...

Cletus Kasady (aka Carnage) is back and badder than ever in Carnage Reigns, a brand new crossover event from Marvel Comics that pits the supervillain up against Miles Morales!
Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report that the crossover will include Carnage Reigns Alpha #1, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #6 (Carnage Reigns Part 2) and Carnage #13 (Carnage Reigns Part 3). It’ll be seven parts, also tying into Red Goblin #5, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #7 and Carnage #14 in June and then ending in Carnage Reigns Omega #1, also in June.
Writer Alex Paknadel tells Bd, “Carnage Reigns is an old-fashioned David and Goliath story pitting a greener, Spider-Man against the most sadistic monster in the Marvel Universe—Cletus Kasady! Miles has only been this out of his depth on a handful of occasions, which is a gift from a storytelling perspective. This month sees a selection of Netflix Originals being taken down, also.

Instead of go-go Power Rangers for the 30th anniversary special on Netflix, at least one prominent cast member is singing no-go.

Comics are an intimidating medium, which is ironic considering how many of us had formative reading experiences with comic books. But there’s a perception (that isn’t always unfounded) that if you aren’t constantly keeping up with comics, especially superhero comics, you’ll fall too far behind, get lost, and never get caught up. Or that you’ll be roped into buying a bunch of books that you’re not into just to “understand” the ones you’re following. Or that it’s all superheroes all the time.
Well, we say…to hell with that noise! Comics are no different than TV or movies in that there’s an infinite array of genres and tones to indulge yourself in, and even well-established long-running characters routinely set easy jumping on points for newer readers. It’s a new year, and there’s no better time to get into (or back into) reading comics.

From the opening montage of Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, we learn that tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) is a genius disruptor because of how many different people tell us so. One of the loudest voices of support is Lionel Toussant (Leslie Odom Jr.), head scientist at Miles’ tech company Alpha and unofficial translator of Miles’ eccentric faxes scrawled with such head-scratching brainstorms as “A.I. and Dogs = Discourse.”
Sure, Lionel tells the other Alpha powers that be, most of them are half-baked ideas… “but the crypto kids paid for this building.” It’s a throwaway line that work as a fascinating bit of narrative time travel, as the film is set during the Covid-19 lockdown of May 2020, yet it’s being released in late 2022, right in the middle of former cryptocurrency billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried’s Ftx solvency crisis.

Phoenix continued to preview their upcoming new album Alpha Zulu Thursday with the video for the LP’s icy latest single, “Winter Solstice.”

Kim Kardashian doesn’t just tease. She also aims to please.
Earlier this week, the 41-year-old reality TV star offered an “appetizer” before the big Dolce & Gabbana show featuring her “Ciao Kim” collection. On Saturday, she delivered the main course, which culminated with her taking a bow at Dolce & Gabbana’s show at Milan Fashion Week. She looked absolutely stunning in a sparkling black gown while donning a large diamond encrusted cross necklace and cross earrings. The blonde bombshell pinned her hair up to complete the look.
Kardashian didn’t walk the main show, but that didn’t matter to the frenzied audience that had anticipated her appearance on the runway. Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, took to social media and posted a short video showing the moment her daughter took the stage. Set to the techno tune of Jorge Cary’s “Alpha,” the curtains slowly opened to reveal...

“Tales of the Walking Dead” Review – Alpha Origin Episode Shows Full Potential of New Spinoff Series
With the latest episode of “Tales of the Walking Dead,” the fresh spin-off has veered as close as it has to the original world and characters of the flagship series. Simply titled “Dee,” the episode follows none other than Season 10 villain Alpha, once again brought to terrifying life by Samantha Morton. While Season 10 brought us a glimpse at who Alpha was before she became leader of the Whisperer clan, this installment of “Tales” shows us an earlier event from Alpha’s past.
Taking a concept that very well could’ve served as the basis for a separate episode featuring new characters, “Dee” mashes an original zombie survival tale with an already well-known character from “The Walking Dead” universe. This enables the episode to not only provide a compelling deep dive into a fan-favorite, but also depict a refreshing zombie apocalypse experience that we haven’t yet seen in the main series before.

This Tales of the Walking Dead article contains no spoilers.
The bevy of spinoffs announced in the wake of the final season of The Walking Dead has been the subject of everything from excitement to exasperation among audiences. For anyone who checked out with the death of Abraham and Glenn at the onset of season 7, it could seem that the franchise is trying to get blood from a turnip.
For many fans, however, placing a greater emphasis on the ensemble cast while allowing the structural hierarchy of the early seasons to slip away has created a renewed interest in the show. With its newest entry, Tales of the Walking Dead, opening up the franchise in ways that the main series never could, it seems that now more than ever, the sky could be the limit for The Walking Dead.

Tales of The Walking Dead is ready to drop its first episode this Sunday night and fans are already anticipating just what will go down in the latest spinoff set within The Walking Dead universe.
The new show is an anthology series consisting of six episodes. Four of these are already available to the press so I can tell you some of the episodes are very much like what you expect to see in The Walking Dead and some are particularly bonkers (I’m looking at you Episode 2) — but in a totally good way.
Episode 1 will focus on Joe (portrayed by Terry Crews) and Evie (Olivia Munn), an unlikely pairing that brings some fresh humor to this universe.

It’s fair to assume that not everyone who makes it in a world overrun by reanimated corpses would be a rag-tag team of badass survivors. Tales of the Walking Dead uses six standalone episodes to give audiences a fresh perspective on what survival looks like depending on time and place.
“Every episode is new,” says showrunner Channing Powell, who was also a writer for both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead. “There’s a new director, we have different sets, different actors, and entirely different characters and settings.” But she is clear that this show is for old fans and new fans alike. “I actually think it’s pretty balanced, half and half.”
There will be “small easter eggs” and returning characters, such as the complicated fan favorite and antagonist of The Walking Dead season nine, Alpha, played by Samantha Morton, as well as episodes that play...

This musical trio lights our fire. On Wednesday, Sean Paul enlisted Gwen Stefani — in a Jamaica-inspired outfit — and Caribbean queen Shenseea for the summer night video to accompany their collab, “Light My Fire.”
“’Light My Fire’ is an epic dream come true,” Paul tells Rolling Stone, premiering the video. “I’ve been a fan of Gwen Stefani forever. And Shenseea, I am so proud of all she’s accomplished in such a short time.”
“I feel honored to be tapped by two legends for this collaboration, the whole process was exciting and collaborative,...
