Stan has warned the Federal Government that mandating minimum levels of spending on Australian content would undermine the streaming industry’s ability to generate the revenues needed to invest in high-quality Australian productions.
Similarly, Amazon Prime Video opposes regulation that would oblige it to screen a prescribed number of hours of Australian programming on its service, claiming that would reduce the non-Australian content selection or lead to the “inclusion of low quality or low viewership content.”

Arguably the most stressed players in the broadcasting sector, Foxtel, the Seven and Nine Networks and Network 10 are calling for the scrapping of local content quota obligations.
In its submission to the government’s ‘Supporting Australian Stories on Our Screens’ options paper review, Foxtel advocates option 4, which would result in platform-neutral deregulation and revising the existing incentives for Australian content.
The pay TV platform wants to abolish the requirement to invest at least 10 per cent of its total program expenditure on new Australian drama, arguing that would provide more flexibility to invest across a variety of genres.
“Removing regulation provides an equal playing field, offering traditional broadcasters the opportunity to further innovate and modernise in order to compete with international content providers,” Foxtel said.

In many cases a show like The Kettering Incident is something that might drive a lot of fans crazy since it doesn’t seem to offer any conclusive ending and yet there’s no doubt clues and hidden meanings throughout the show that are meant to convey a sense of something bigger and more confusing going on than we’re initially allowed to see. At the same time however shows like this confound fans simply because they give a compelling story to follow and then drop them flat at the end, as though expecting them to draw their own conclusions all along without

In this era of “Peak TV” there doesn’t seem to be enough time to bother with drama and comedy imports. But while there are more than enough American shows to binge, it would be a mistake to bypass great foreign TV. After all, that would mean missing out on fan favorites like “Doctor Who,” “Orphan Black,” “Downton Abbey” and “Sherlock.”
Foreign TV has spawned hit U.S. adaptations like “Homeland” and “The Office,” as well as pale imitations of the original. Remember the failed American versions of “The It Crowd” and “Coupling”? Yeah, we’d like to forget ’em as well.

How did you connect with Porchlight?
Vincent [Sheehan] had done The Hunter down here, and he'd finished it around the time I returned to Tasmania after god knows how many years. I'd been to Screen Tasmania to talk to them about being home and what I wanted to do. About two weeks later, Vincent finished [The Hunter] and he went in to [Screen Tasmania] and said — look, I really would love to do something else here. Vincent just fell in love with Tasmania, but found it really difficult on The Hunter having no real Tasmanian voice to navigate the privacy of the island. People are quite protective of their way of life. So he really just came up, knocked on my door and said, hey, do you want to talk about collaborating?...
