Johnny Depp was a Hollywood royalty before it all came crumbling down in 2018. His ex-wife, Amber Heard, wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post titled: “Amber Heard: I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.” The op-ed was the start of the end of Johnny Depp as we knew him, at least for a while.

Johnny Depp's controversial exit as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3 sparked major backlash and legal battles, leading to recasting with Mads Mikkelsen. Despite the criticism, Mads Mikkelsen's portrayal as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3 received positive reviews, overshadowing Johnny Depp's performance. Warner Bros. faced challenges with the franchise after Depp's departure, as recasting Grindelwald didn't lead to a significant box office boost.
Johnny Depp was recast as the Gellert Grindelwald actor for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, and the decision was controversial and headline-grabbing for multiple reasons. Depp's Grindelwald was first introduced at the end of 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them before the actor went on to star in the sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Since then, a combination of controversy and poor box office returns for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Secrets of Dumbledore ended the franchise after just three movies.

The Fantastic Beasts franchise includes three movies, with Secrets of Dumbledore potentially being the last installment. The prequel series connects closely with the Harry Potter franchise, focusing on Grindelwald's rise and Dumbledore's involvement. Despite initial plans for five movies, the future of the series is uncertain due to poor box office performance and controversy.
As the Wizarding World franchise continues to grow, the complete Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies order becomes more complex. J.K. Rowling's magical novels became one of Hollywood's biggest franchises throughout the 2000s. Audiences watched eight movies centered around Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter that showed his ascension through Hogwarts and pivotal role in defeating Voldemort. The eight Harry Potter films were followed by a prequel series, Fantastic Beasts, and is now going to be expanded further by a reboot TV series.
The Fantastic Beasts movies kicked off in 2016 with Eddie Redmayne's magizoologist Newt Scamander taking the lead role.

A new rumor claims that Natalie Tena, best known for her role as Nymphadora Tonks in the last four Harry Potter movies, has joined an unknown project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to trusted insider Daniel Richtman (via X), Tena has already filmed her scenes for whatever MCU project she will be part of. While that doesn't offer any hints as to who she might be playing, it does narrow down where and when we might see her MCU debut. At the time of writing, Deadpool 3, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Ironheart are in post-production, while Wonder Man, Daredevil: Born Again, and Thunderbolts are currently filming, and Captain America: Brave New World is set to undergo reshoots this spring and summer. Until Marvel Studios officially announces Tena's casting, fans will have to speculate as to which MCU project Tena is most likely to pop up in.

The Johnny Depp film “Jeanne du Barry” from director and star (and producer and co-writer) Maïwenn will open in U.S. theaters on May 2 as part of a special engagement via Fathom Events and distributor Vertical.
The film will open exclusively in more than 500 U.S. theaters on May 2, 2024, with the possibility that the film could run longer than its “limited” engagement if it’s a success. The first big theatrical release of May 2024 is 20th Century’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” which will command many more screens beginning May 10.
“Jeanne du Barry” was the opening night film at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and was a modest box office hit, grossing $13 million outside of the states. Vertical picked it up last June but has yet to release it here.
With more than 500 screens in tow, the movie will be the widest opening for Depp in the U.

The Pirates of the Caribbean films began with The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. Over the next 14 years, Disney would go on to produce four more films in the franchise. As of 2017, the film franchise did not seem to be slowing down at all, with fans still watching the sequels. However, the franchise hit a bit of a roadblock when, in 2018, while plans for a sixth film were underway, Johnny Depp's ex-wife Amber Heard posted an editorial piece in The Washington Post alleging that Depp had abused her. Disney parted ways with Depp, and he was removed as Captain Jack Sparrow, his infamous and Oscar-nominated character from Pirates of the Caribbean. Whether you agree with Depp or Heard in the 2022 defamation trail, where Depp sued Heard and won, it's clear from the films so far that Pirates of the Caribbean is a franchise built upon his character.

Apple TV+ series “Masters of the Air” is the third collaboration from the team behind HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Trio Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Steven Spielberg produced the nine-part World War II epic series, which spotlights the men who fought in the 8th Air Force, specifically the men of the 100th Bomb Group. The vivid and vital story finds roots in the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller.
The crew of a typical Eighth Air Force heavy bomber plane included ten men — a pilot and his co-pilot flying the B17, the navigator and the bombardier in the machine’s nose, the flight engineer behind the pilot, the radio operator, two waist gunners, a ball turret gunner and a tail gunner. Not to mention the men who strategized from the bases, the plane engineers and Tuskegee airmen or Royal Airforce pilots who feature in this story.

Fans of Harry Potter know Nagini as Lord Voldemort's closest ally and the only creature he loves. She was also one of Voldemort's Horcruxes. While people assumed that Nagini was a regular snake or even a magical snake, she was in reality a Maledictus, a woman cursed to become an animal. In her case, a snake. This was revealed in The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise and has ignited many questions about Nagini and Voldemort's relationship. People believe Voldemort might have met Nagini during his time without a body in Albany many years after she turned into a snake, which led to their unusual bond.

Each actor who portrayed Gellert Grindelwald brought their own distinct flavor to the role in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises. Grindelwald and Dumbledore were close in the past, planning to bring the Wizarding World out of hiding, but Dumbledore distanced himself after his sister's death. Despite the recasting of Grindelwald multiple times, the franchise's final installment, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, was a box-office disaster and couldn't save the franchise.
There were many Gellert Grindelwald actors throughout the Harry Potter franchise, especially as Fantastic Beasts brought him into the spotlight. The third installment in the Harry Potter prequel series certainly had a lot of questions to answer. Its predecessor, 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, had ended with the shocking revelation that the Obscurus, Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller), was a member of the Dumbledore family. Credence is recruited to the dark arts by the evil wizard Grindelwald; Johnny Depp originally played the role, but in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, he was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen. The recasting was only part of the reason that The Secrets of Dumbledore had such a troubled production. J.K. Rowling’s transphobic comments shadowed the project, and many felt that The Crimes of Grindelwald had masked the romantic relationship between Grindelwald and Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), in what could have been a great moment for LGBT+ representation in a blockbuster film.

The first book in the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" ("Sorcerer's Stone" here in the States) was first published in June of 1997. It was written by author J.K. Rowling, long before she had been driven mad by an infuriating streak of unabashed transphobia that she insists on adhering to. Thanks to years of bigoted screaming, Rowling's legacy has been wholly tainted, and it's hard to read her lighthearted children's fantasy books without thinking of her poisonous worldview. If one checks out the Harry Potter books from the library, however, one can still enjoy the adventures and complex Wizarding World of Harry Potter without giving Rowling another dime.
Before her mind snapped open in public, however, the Harry Potter books — and their subsequent movie adaptations — were widely beloved. The title character was an impoverished 11-year-old who was forced to live in a closet with his abusive aunt and uncle.

"A goddess has been born!" Netflix has revealed a teaser trailer for a Korean mystery thriller series titled GyeongSeong Creature, which will be split into two parts for its debut for streaming later this year. The series is set in Gyeongseong (which is the old name for Seoul) in 1945. In Seoul's grim era under colonial rule, an entrepreneur and a sleuth fight for survival and face a monster born out of human greed. During Japanese rule over Korea, two young adults confront a strange creature and battle against it for survival. It's a very vague description and the trailer doesn't really give away much either, except that this hospital had humans and creature(s). Starring Park Seo-jun and Han So-hee, with Claudia Kim (from Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Kim Hae-sook, Cho Han-cheul, & Wi Ha-jun (from Squid Game). Gyeongseong Creature Part 1 debuts at the end of December, with Part...

The Harry Potter remake has the opportunity to include additional lore and details from spinoffs and notes, but some additions should be left out. Revealing Dumbledore's romantic relationship with Grindelwald adds depth to his character, and it's important to maintain his private and mysterious nature in the remake. Some retroactive additions like Nagini's human origin and Aberforth Dumbledore's lost son feel forced and would detract from the central story.
HBO's Harry Potter remake will have the chance to include far more than the movies, but some after-the-fact additions to canon are better off left out. These details came from a mix of spinoffs and notes from the author, making the lore surrounding Harry's story even more complete. Many of these helped us better understand the characters and their circumstances, while other big reveals felt disjointed. Newt Scamander's story has become less of a focus in the Fantastic Beasts franchise as the narrative has shifted toward exploring the past and the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. The likelihood of Fantastic Beasts 4 happening is very low, as director David Yates is busy with other projects and there is no confirmation or information from Warner Bros. about continuing the franchise. An Easter egg in the Harry Potter series suggests that Newt Scamander was present at Hogwarts during the events of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which opens up opportunities for his inclusion in the Harry Potter remake and further exploration of his adventures.
Given the abysmal non-likelihood of Fantastic Beasts 4, Newt Scamander's return could happen in the Harry Potter reboot thanks to a 20-year-old Easter egg. Eddie Redmayne's Newt first appeared in 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. This primary installment saw great success,...

The shortcomings of the Fantastic Beasts movies proved that extending the Harry Potter series in the cinematic universe is more complicated than it seems. The controversies surrounding the Wizarding World franchise pushed audiences away, but the massive success of the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy video game showed that it was just Fantastic Beasts that was the problem. Remaking the original Harry Potter movies in a longer format is a risky move that may not capture the same nostalgia and charm, potentially leaving audiences more uncomfortable than entertained.
Warner Bros has been trying hard to keep Harry Potter going, but with so many struggles, it may not be worth it. The Wizarding World franchise hasn't fallen much in popularity since the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, proven by the prevalence of merchandise and the neverending discussion of the series online. Ever since the release of the first movie, the Fantastic Beasts franchise clearly hasn't had an easy ride, and it seems as though it is in dire need of some Felix Felicis. The franchise's failure really comes as no surprise, considering its blatant disregard for a significant portion of what made the Harry Potter movies so exceptional and well-liked. To be fair, it is extremely difficult to follow in the footsteps of the Harry Potter movies since the worldwide success is undeniable, and an utterly dedicated fandom was formed.
That being said, Fantastic Beasts would have a wonderful foundation to work with, look up to, and take notes from; however, they seem to overlook valuable facts instead. With five films planned to depict the story of magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), the Wizarding World, and the truth about Gellert Grindelwald's ascent, Warner Bros. had high hopes for the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

One of the behind-the-scenes drama involved cast member Amber Heard, who plays Mera in the franchise and had a very public divorce with Johnny Depp (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) that affected both their images.

Fantastic Beasts 4 is currently on hold with no development happening, according to director David Yates. Yates has mentioned exploring other non-wizard projects, suggesting his involvement in Fantastic Beasts 4 is uncertain. The declining success of the spinoff franchise and lower Rotten Tomatoes scores also cast doubts on the future of Fantastic Beasts 4.
Fantastic Beasts 4 gets a discouraging update from the franchise director. Helmed by David Yates, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a film trilogy consisting of the first film of the same name, as well as two sequels: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The Fantastic Beasts series has been thought to have a Fantastic Beasts 4 and Fantastic Beasts 5 coming after The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Fantastic Beasts 4 & 5 are unlikely to happen, which is ultimately best for the Wizarding World's future. The franchise wasn't working and lacked audience interest. The Secrets of Dumbledore provided a fitting ending for most characters, wrapping up several arcs. However, not getting to see the iconic Dumbledore vs. Grindelwald duel, which Fantastic Beasts was building to, is a missed opportunity.
Fantastic Beasts 4 & 5 almost certainly won’t happen, but ultimately that’s best for the Wizarding World’s future. Fantastic Beasts seemed like a bad idea from the get-go: turning a small textbook from Harry Potter into not just a movie, but an entire franchise, was very much the move of a Hollywood increasingly obsessed with IPs and a studio who needed to maintain a huge cash-cow. However, the first movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, proved people wrong. It was a movie filled with great new characters, and captured...

Fantastic Beasts director David Yates was surprised to learn that there were plans for five films in the franchise, as the announcement came during a press screening for the first movie. The franchise's box office performance has steadily declined with each successive film, leading to doubts about its future and the likelihood of another Fantastic Beasts movie being made. One of the main reasons for the franchise's failure was the drastic change in direction and tone between the first and second movies, which alienated viewers and undermined the overall coherence of the series.
Fantastic Beasts director David Yates did not originally know about the long-term plan for the franchise. A spinoff and prequel for the Harry Potter franchise, Fantastic Beasts is set decades earlier and revolves around Albus Dumbledore and Newt Scamander. The movies have suffered extreme criticism due to the extreme change of tone and stakes between each iteration.

David Yates, who directed all three Fantastic Beasts movies and four Harry Potter films, casts doubt on the future of the spinoff franchise. While there was originally a five-movie plan for Fantastic Beasts, Yates says the franchise is "parked". The two most recent movies in the franchise were not especially well-received, and The Secrets of Dumbledore underperformed commercially, suggesting that it's for the best that the spinoff saga not continue.
Harry Potter veteran director David Yates, who also directed all the Fantastic Beasts movies, casts doubt on the spinoff saga's future. Keen to capitalize on the enduring love of the Harry Potter franchise, Warner Bros. released Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2016. The success of the spinoff led to two sequels, the most recent of which hit theaters last year, neither of which were particularly well-received.

Before the “Harry Potter” films, there were J.K. Rowling’s books. The first book, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” was published in 1997. Nearly 26 years later, eleven films, one reunion special and a Universal experience dedicated to the magical Wizarding World have grown out of Rowling’s literary staple in childhood fiction.

The Fantastic Beasts movies are a prequel series to the Harry Potter films and take place in the 1920s and 30s, while the original series takes place in the 1990s. The release order of the Fantastic Beasts movies is as follows: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022). Despite initial plans for five movies, it is unlikely that the final two Fantastic Beasts movies will be made due to poor box office performance and controversy surrounding the franchise.
