A special offer for people with a strong nervous system – Reddit users chose the most intense horror films that will definitely make your heart beat (a lot) faster, and we picked just five of the best.
1. Green Room, 2015
A little-known punk band, The Ain't Rights, travels through the province trying to make a living. The road leads them to a club for Nazis, where the guys witness a murder. On the one hand, they understand that no one is going to let them off so easily now, but on the other hand, what can they do against a crowd of aggressive, armed skinheads? So far the musicians, locked in a small room, are still alive, but it is not clear how to get out of this situation without casualties.
From the description, Green Room may seem like a high-speed action movie, but in reality this is not entirely true – this...

Filmmaker Stefon Bristol’s 2019 debut See You Yesterday (Netflix) demonstrated the filmmaker’s deft ability to blend tones and legibly render a complex time-travel story injected with social consciousness and the Black experience. Bristol and co-screenwriter Felicia Bailey deservedly took home the Film Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay in 2020. Now with his sophomore feature Breathe (distributed by Warner Brothers), the NY-based Spike Lee protege continues his ambitious project of telling Black-cenetered sci-fi stories on an indie film budget.
Beginning with a Black List-approved original screenplay by Doug Simon, Bristol was encouraged by producers to put his own stamp on the material, resulting in the change of setting from post-apocalyptic upstate New York to post-apocalyptic Flatbush. Bristol’s updated vision also attracted the film’s stellar cast, which includes Jennifer Hudson, Milla Jovovich, Qvenzhané Wallis, Sam Worthington, Common and more.

In the 11 years since it burst onto the scene, A24 has accomplished something virtually unheard of in the film industry: establishing itself as a distributor with a fanbase that rivals those of the biggest directors.
Through a carefully curated lineup of acquisitions and original projects (and some seriously impressive marketing strategy), the company has become synonymous with crowd-pleasing independent filmmaking executed at the highest possible level. And its effortlessly cool promotional campaigns and brand collaborations have turned its logo into the ultimate stamp of approval for any project seeking film geek street cred.
The brand is elastic enough to be applied to a wide variety of projects — this is the company that released both “Moonlight” and “Spring Breakers,” after all — but you can generally recognize an A24 movie when you see one. It’s always going to be an auteur-driven work that unapologetically swerves away from mainstream trends in favor...

I first reviewed Green Room back in 2017 for my blog Wight Blood and gave it a score of 9/10. I don’t think I have watched it since so with this Second Sight 4k/Blu-ray release, I had the opportunity to see if it was just as good on second viewing.
The movie follows a punk band as they attempt to tour and book a last-minute gig at a neo-nazi bar with the promise of some decent money. They play the gig and attempt to leave as quickly as possible but after they witness something they shouldn’t have, things turn nasty and they get stuck in the green room with nowhere to go.

Writer-director Jeremy Saulnier talks to us about the making of the 2015 survival thriller Green Room, which is getting a new disc release this month.
In October 2014, writer-director Jeremy Saulnier had a bit of a problem. Green Room, the follow-up to his micro-budget thriller, Blue Ruin, was nearing the start of shooting, but he still hadn’t managed to cast the role of Darcy – a club owner and leader of a group of rural Neo-Nazis. Most worryingly, as sets for the film were being built, Green Room’s financiers had threatened to withdraw funding if Saulnier couldn’t find a ‘name’ actor.
Fortunately for Saulnier, the script had been sent out to the legendary Patrick Stewart, and despite – or perhaps because of – the less-than-appealing nature of the Darcy character, he agreed to star at the last minute. “He kind of saved the movie,” Saulnier tells us almost a decade on.

Following beloved indies like “Blue Ruin,” “Green Room,” and 2018’s “Hold the Dark,” it’s been several years since we’ve heard from filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier. Saulnier does have a new movie in the can, “Rebel Ridge,” but in a new interview, he describes the making of it as “tumultuous” and admits it was shot three different times (or at least it sounds like there were three different times production attempted to begin).

I have been a fan of director Jeremy Saulnier’s work ever since his feature debut Murder Party was given a home video release back in 2007, and it has been great to watch his career progress through Blue Ruin, Green Room, Hold the Dark, and episodes of True Detective season 3. Anything he does will have my attention, so I was excited when another Saulnier film called Rebel Ridge was announced back in 2019. Unfortunately, we still haven’t seen Rebel Ridge because the Netflix production was delayed by the pandemic lockdowns, then by the departure of lead actor John Boyega a few weeks into filming, reportedly due to “family reasons.” Saulnier did eventually manage to make the movie, though, and he talked about the troubled production during a recent interview with Film Stories.

Jeremy Saulnier’s thriller Rebel Ridge was disrupted by the pandemic and the sudden departure of John Boyega. He talks exclusively to us about its “tumultuous” production.
With such taut, superbly-shot thrillers as Blue Ruin and Green Ruin to his name, interest has been high in writer-director Jeremy Saulnier’s next film, Rebel Ridge. Bankrolled by Netflix and originally due to begin filming in April 2020, however, its production was beset by problems, including a pandemic-induced delay and the sudden departure of its star, John Boyega.
Speaking exclusively to Film Stories, Jeremy Saulnier – who’s promoting a new home release of his 2015 thriller, Green Room – described the making of Rebel Ridge as “tumultuous.”
“We came back three years in a row to make that movie,” he adds.

Apple TV+ series “Masters of the Air” is the third collaboration from the team behind HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Trio Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Steven Spielberg produced the nine-part World War II epic series, which spotlights the men who fought in the 8th Air Force, specifically the men of the 100th Bomb Group. The vivid and vital story finds roots in the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller.
The crew of a typical Eighth Air Force heavy bomber plane included ten men — a pilot and his co-pilot flying the B17, the navigator and the bombardier in the machine’s nose, the flight engineer behind the pilot, the radio operator, two waist gunners, a ball turret gunner and a tail gunner. Not to mention the men who strategized from the bases, the plane engineers and Tuskegee airmen or Royal Airforce pilots who feature in this story.

Being set around Halloween, Scream VI was packed with immediately recognizable horror costumes. Jason Voorhees. Freddy Krueger. Michael Myers. Pinhead. Not to mention Ghostface. They were all in there. But during a party scene, one of the characters is wearing a costume you might not recognize. It’s a knight’s suit of armor, but made out of cardboard. That’s the same costume the protagonist in the 2007 horror comedy Murder Party (watch it Here) wears. If you didn’t recognize it, then we have to tell you all about Murder Party – because it’s the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.
Murder Party was the feature directorial debut of Jeremy Saulnier, who has gone on to direct films like the revenge thriller Blue Ruin, the neo-Nazi horror film Green Room, and the mystery thriller Hold the Dark, as well as episodes of True Detective season 3. Saulnier also wrote the screenplay for the film.

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures has entered production on Hedda, its reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s famed 1891 stage play Hedda Gabler, announcing the addition of six to its cast. Newcomers include Imogen Poots (Baltimore), Tom Bateman (Thirteen Lives), Finbar Lynch (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Mirren Mack (The Witcher: Blood Origins), Jamael Westman (Hamilton), and Saffron Hocking (Top Boy).

Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler revolves around Hedda Tesman, a newlywed stifled by societal norms. Frustrated and trapped, she resorts to manipulation and destructive actions. George Clooney says the Ocean’s gang could get back together after reading a “great script” for another film in the starry heist series. Speaking with Uproxx about his upcoming movie The Boys in the Boat, Clooney revealed a new Ocean’s film could find the crew from the trilogy reuniting for events set after Ocean’s 13. Ocean’s 14, anyone?

When Star Trek returned to television screens after two decades in 1987, it looked very different from its predecessor. Gone were James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock, and Bones, most of whom planned to return in the original sequel series Star Trek: Phase II. In their place stood a bald Shakespearean actor, the breakout star of the television miniseries Roots, and a member of Muppet creator Jim Henson’s team.
From those unlikely beginnings, Star Trek: The Next Generation grew to match and, for some, exceed the original series. Much of that success came from the cast, who had a far easier camaraderie than their predecessors and, some might argue, a more impressive resume. Before and after Trek, these actors became beloved figures in genre cinema and television, proving that they are even more than the crew who boldly went where no one had gone before.

A24 has confirmed that they’re re-teaming with Halina Reijn, the director of their slasher satire Bodies Bodies Bodies, on a erotic thriller called Babygirl – and an impressive cast has already been assembled for the film. Here’s the line-up: Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), Antonio Banderas (Desperado), Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), and Jean Reno (Léon: The Professional).
According to Deadline, Reijn will be working from a screenplay she wrote herself. The story she crafted for this one centers on a successful CEO who begins an illicit affair with her much younger intern. Given the “thriller” part of the “erotic thriller” description, we have to assume that this affair goes terribly wrong in some way… probably in a way that involves more than just hurt feelings.

After Murder Party (2007), the Cannes Film Festival selected Blue Ruin (2013) and Green Room (2015) and TIFF selected Hold the Dark (2018), Jeremy Saulnier‘s fifth feature film faced the eye of multiple storms dead on. With the pandemic, casting change, this new film has been in post for just over one year now. Saulnier enlisted Aaron Pierre, Don Johnson, James Badge Dale, James Cromwell, AnnaSophia Robb, Emory Cohen, Zsane Jhe and David Denman for the Netflix backed Rebel Ridge – and while the hefty price-tag is north of many Sundance budgets we feel this make actually stick a landing here.…...

It’s rare for a studio to become a brand, but A24 has managed it. Since its humble beginnings as a New York-based distribution company founded by Daniel Katz, David Fenkel, and John Hodges in August 2012, A24 has become synonymous with quality for film lovers, the place that releases the must-see indies everyone is talking about.
A24’s first film was the little-seen and little-loved “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III” from Roman Coppola, which hit theaters in February 2013 to muted fanfare. But the movie that really put the company on the map was “Spring Breakers,” Harmony Korine’s wild crime comedy that hit theaters in March that same year and established many of the conventions fans associate with the brand: artful neon cinematography, shocking content and stylized violence, and cool-kid cleverness suffused in every frame. There’s something wonderfully nerve-rattling about a “survive the night” horror scenario, whether it’s a handful of strangers trying to fend off crazed zombies in “Night of the Living Dead” or a group of sarcastic Gen Z friends suspecting each other of murder in “Bodies Bodies Bodies.”
Here are some of our favorite entries in this subgenre, where the weapons are improvised, the stakes are life and death and there’s no guarantee anyone will get out alive.
We did not include movies that take place over a few days (like “Battle Royale”) or movies that aren’t streaming right now, like “Ready or Not.”

The first week of October is officially here, so it’s full steam ahead on the Halloween season from here on out. This week’s streaming picks embrace spooky season festivities by centering on holiday-themed horror movies that feature Halloween parties as their slaying grounds.
Some of these horror movies bring the fun, while others aim to spike your adrenaline. But all use Halloween parties as a centerpiece for the horror that’s unleashed within.

Cemetery of Terror – AMC+, Shudder
Rubén Galindo Jr.’s most prominent horror feature is the American-influenced Don’t Panic (available on Shudder), but the Halloween-centric Cemetery of Terror offers the most fun. Macon Blair is one of the great "those guys" of modern cinema, with a presence so memorable that you can't help but sit up in your seat when he pops up in a film. Seasoned movie buffs may point to his work in films like "Murder Party," "Green Room," "Logan Lucky," and "The Florida Project." A billion dollars' worth of people saw him this summer in a key supporting role in "Oppenheimer." Offscreen, he won a fair amount of acclaim for his directorial debut, the Netflix release "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore." But the Macon Blair who made that offbeat dramedy is also the same maniac who made "The Toxic Avenger," the surprisingly lavish remake of the infamous z-grade B-movie from 1984, which put Troma Entertainment, with its now-legendary history of disgusting schlock-by-design, on the map.

The Toxic Avenger is coming back to life in a brand new movie from Legendary Entertainment, with Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore, Green Room) directing the upcoming remake of the Troma classic. Thanks to IGN, a new Nsfw red band trailer teases the jaw-ripping R-rated mayhem.
Described as a “brand new reimagining of Lloyd Kaufman’s classic The Toxic Avenger,” the film centers on Winston Gooze, played by “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage!
Check out the “Eyewitness Toxie” trailer below to get a feel for the zany horror-comedy fun along with a few notable Troma callbacks.
Troma previews, “While the original film (which premiered in 1984 – almost 40 years ago!) followed the fate of Melvin Ferd Junko III (Mitch Cohen), who goes from zero to toxic hero in a case of bullying gone awry, Macon Blair’s contemporary take follows a hideously deformed creature of...

Much like its protagonist — a ghastly superhero who gains his powers after falling into a vat of chemical waste — “The Toxic Avenger” refuses to die. Made for a paltry $500,000 in 1984, Troma’s cult classic spawned three direct sequels, a rock musical, two video games, a short-lived animated series and now a remake starring Peter Dinklage. Given the eco-friendly, anti-pollution message at the improbable franchise’s core, perhaps its reemergence shouldn’t be surprising. Those problems haven’t exactly been alleviated in the intervening decades, with rising sea levels and melting glaciers acting as a kind of real-world Bat Signal.
In some ways, remakes of this sort have more to live up to than updated versions of massively successful blockbusters do. The self-selecting audience of a cult classic like “Toxic Avenger” may not be large, but it is fiercely devoted. Actor-turned-filmmaker Macon Blair, who earned acclaim for his roles in “Blue Ruin...

Actor Sir Patrick Stewart took a break from playing heroes in movies like X-Men to portray a deplorable character. But when he first read the script for this film, he couldn’t help feel disturbed by it.

Many felt that Stewart seemed to go in a different direction in his career when he starred in the horror flick Green Room. The 2016 Anton Yelchin feature saw Stewart portraying a neo-nazi who targets a band of young aspiring musicians. When Stewart first received the script for the movie, it immediately left an impression on the veteran.

Desperate people do desperate things. This timeless fact of life is plain to see all throughout Beth Hanna and Jerren Lauder’s You’re Killing Me, a teen thriller invigorated by its own clever setup. While the execution may not go off without a hitch, the movie keeps the audience’s attention, due in large part to its sense of real-time urgency and engaging dilemma.
Going to college with her best friend is important to a scholarship kid like Eden (McKaley Miller). So much so she would ask her classmate Schroder (Brice Anthony Heller) for a big favor; she wants his father, a congressman, to write her a recommendation letter. This could be Eden’s only chance to get off the waitlist and into her dream school. In the meantime, a classmate of theirs has gone missing, but no one at school is so concerned that they would skip Schroder’s Angels and Devils party.

San Francisco, April 4 (Ians) Music streaming platform Spotify has said that it is shutting down its live-audio app — “Spotify Live”.
However, the company said it will continue to explore live features on its main platform, reports TechCrunch.
