Music is like any other entertainment medium open to judgement. Some stuff gets forgotten while other pieces of work go down as all-time classics that endure the test of time. As poetic as it is about the female form and a chosen piece of clothing, I don't know how one goes about critically judging Sisqó's 'Thong Song' as a music video beyond stating it's entertaining.

Helmed by veteran director Joseph Kahn, Sisqó is joined by cameos from the hip-hop world and the energy level is high as the expected lovely female sights & dance moves fill the screen. A likable bit with his young daughter, wife and yes a thong kicks things off. With his open sleeveless jacket and his patented silver hair, Sisqó hits the beach with many sexual innuendos both lyrically, visually in the sand or on a concert stage.

It's the latter where things reach an almost comic pitch. Florescent clothes in the dark as ladies bounce about. Sisqó with male backup dancers, a full orchestra complete with fireworks, huge pieces of cloth blowing in the wind meant to represent thongs. The only demerit is a lack of many thongs. Guess they had to be careful showing too much, too risqué for tv.

Released in a few minor iterations, 'Thong Song' was one of the hottest tunes of 2000 and I'm quite sure the music video had a huge impact on that. It of course drew criticism as being another video which exploited women, but that argument died as quickly as the laws of physics going on here.
