Netflix is investing in Leanne Morgan.
The streamer has handed out a 16-episode, straight-to-series order for an untitled multicamera comedy starring the stand-up comedian. Comedy kingpin Chuck Lorre (Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men) co-created the series alongside Morgan and Susan McMartin.
Netflix says the untitled comedy revolves around Leanne, whose life “takes an unexpected turn when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and Jell-o salad.”
Morgan broke out thanks in large part to her 2023 Netflix stand-up special I’m Every Woman, which reached the top 10 comedy specials on the streamer. The Tennessee native has been in the comedy industry for 25 years and started out playing local comedy clubs before rising...

Tim Allen is one step closer to returning to ABC for a third time. The Alphabet net has given a pilot order to his latest sitcom, “Shifting Gears,” from 20th Television. Allen is on board to star and executive produce the multi-cam sitcom pilot — which is still a working title — which will also be written and executive produced by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully.
In the project, Allen plays Matt, the “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina are the non-writing exec producers on the show.
“Shifting Gears” continues Allen’s long association with ABC and Disney, including the long-running hit (1991-1997) “Home Improvement.” Allen later starred on ABC’s “Last Man Standing,” which aired on the Alphabet web from 2011 to...

Exclusive: Netflix has picked up another installment of its popular multi-camera comedy series The Upshaws. The blue-collar sitcom created by Regina Hicks and Wanda Sykes has been renewed for a 10-episode fourth season.
After the 10-episode first season, Seasons 2 and 3 of The Upshaws have been released in two parts — of eight and six episodes each, respectively — so the renewal is for Part 6 of the series, as officially referred to by Netflix.
Production on the 10-episode new season, which will be released in one batch, will begin next year. The six-episode Part 5 of The Upshaws (second half of Season 3), is slated to premiere in spring 2024.
Somewhat flying under the radar, The Upshaws has been a sturdy performer for Netflix in a genre — multi-camera sitcom — that has been challenging for streamers. With the renewal, The Upshaws is tying The Ranch as the second-longest-running original multi-camera comedy on Netflix in number of seasons,...

Could a Home Improvement revival be in the works? Well, according to the show’s leading star, Tim Allen, a spinoff is something he’s talked about with his former co-stars on more than one occasion. Allen didn’t dismiss the question and actually said he’d discussed the possibility in the past. “I see Richard Karn a lot,” Allen said, referring to the actor who played Al Borland on the hit ABC series. “And I talk to the boys… and I’m there as one of their friends. TV’s IP fetish is no coincidence. Recognizable titles and stars can guarantee strong initial tune-in off of modest marketing. But long-term results are lackluster. Just look at the past decade’s worth of revivals. Different from reboots or remakes, risky ventures in their own right, a revival features original castmembers of long-departed series revisiting characters for whom there’s an assumed appetite. Viewers aren’t often as hungry as studio brass would like. The average life span of recent revivals is three seasons, while their originals averaged eight-year runs. So as Paramount+ kicks off October by nixing one revived comedy (iCarly, starring Miranda Cosgrove, above) and attempting to mount another (Frasier with Kelsey Grammer, which premiered Oct. 12), The Hollywood Reporter examines 10 case studies from this revivals wave and where they went right … or horribly wrong.

When it was first announced that "Frasier" would be resurrected for a reboot, I think a lot of us had the same thought: again? Not that the beloved "Cheers" spinoff, which ran for 11 glorious seasons on NBC between 1993 and 2004, had already been rebooted once before, but that it feels like everything else has. From classics like "Hawaii Five-o" and "Dynasty" to hour-long dramas like "Veronica Mars" and "Prison Break," to dozens of sitcoms, like "Full House" (rebranded "Fuller House"), "Will & Grace," "The Connors" (a reboot/spinoff of "Roseanne"), "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" ... you get the picture.
The witty, quippy, debonair world of Seattle psychologist and radio personality Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) belongs to a rarefied universe of '90s TV dynamite, including "Friends," "Seinfeld," and "In Living Color," none of which have been rebooted. Would taking the paddles to Daphne, Roz, and Niles denude them of their charms?...

It’s Frasier Week at IndieWire. Grab some tossed salad and scrambled eggs, settle into your coziest easy chair, and join us. We’re listening.
“Frasier” is back — and he’s not the only one. Over the years, television has become increasingly enamored with the nostalgic allure of reboots, reunions, and revivals. Why create a new hit when you can resuscitate an old one? Why not give in to viewers’ fervent desire to revisit their favorite characters and storylines from years ago? Why not catch up with a cast returning to the roles that made them famous, a last hurrah (for now anyway) for something so beloved?
The Revival-ssaince is not without its quandaries. Many from critics to viewers lament the dearth of original storytelling most evident when a new revival is announced. More often than not, the second or third or umpteenth hurrah is not nearly as satisfying as the original series.

“30 years ago, I left Boston with my tail between my legs. I had dreams of returning, triumphant. Now, those dreams just keep slipping farther and farther away.”
Paramount+’s “Frasier” reboot is psychiatrist Frasier Crane’s (Kelsey Grammer) latest reinvention. He first reinvented himself when he left Boston for his hometown of Seattle (spinning off from “Cheers” to his own original series). Then he did it again when he left Seattle for Chicago to be with the woman he loved, in the series finale of “Frasier.” 19 years after the original series ended, Frasier Crane is reinventing himself once again. This time, back in Boston, with a new career in academics and a new role as a present father to his (now adult) son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott).
If your question regarding a “Frasier” revival isn’t simply “Why?” then it’s surely “Why now?” The late 2010s saw the floodgates open...

Hot on the heels of Nsync’s explosive appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, Joey Fatone performed the group’s biggest hits in Tampa, Florida on Friday night and Et Canada was exclusively with the musician as he stepped off stage and dished on the boy band’s buzzy reunion.
In town for 90s Con, Fatone, 46, put on a sold-out Joey Fatone & Friends gig at Tampa Theater, where he was joined by his sister Janine and Backstreet Boys pal Aj McLean.
McLean was still buzzing from Tuesday’s Nsync reunion, telling the audience he became “teary” watching Fatone, Justin Timberlake, Jc Chasez, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick come together at the VMA’s to present an award to Taylor Swift — who fangirled and questioned the band on their future.
“She went, ‘What the hell are you guys doing?’ That was [her] big question.”

For your listening pleasure and a trip down memory lane. John Stamos has dropped a new version of the Full House classic “Forever” the Beach Boys song performed by Stamos several times in the show. Stamos’ new iteration is a lullaby performed by the actor with American Idol alum singer-songwriter Jax.

The actor went on to perform the song on at least three episodes on the Full House ABC sitcom, one during Jesse’s (Stamos) 1991 wedding to Rebecca (Lori Loughlin). See the video below.
The song also was performed again on the first episode of Full House Netflix spinoff Fuller House in 2016.

Jodie Sweetin is expressing disappointment that her upcoming film Craft Me a Romance will air on Great American Family, where her former Full House co-star Candace Cameron Bure has a deal.
In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Sweetin said she was not aware that the rom-com would land at the cable channel, which was the subject of headlines late last year when Cameron Bure said that “traditional marriage” would be the focus of stories featured on Great American Family. This was in contrast to the Hallmark Channel, the previous home for Cameron Bure’s numerous Christmas rom-coms, having recently featured LGBTQ characters in its movies.
“Sometimes, we, as actors, don’t have control over which network buys the projects we are in nor are we a part of the process in which they get sold,” Sweetin said. “So I was very surprised to learn by reading about it...

“Full House” alum Jodie Sweetin expressed disappointment to People magazine over her new film, “Craft Me a Romance,” being sold to the Great American Family (Gaf) network, which counts her former co-star Candace Cameron Bure as its chief creative officer. Bure ignited controversy last fall after she told The Wall Street Journal that Gaf would be keeping “traditional marriage at the core” of its output, meaning it would be highly unlikely for Gaf shows and films to include LGBTQ+ couples.
“Sometimes, we, as actors, don’t have control over which network buys the projects we are in, nor are we a part of the process in which they get sold,” Sweetin said in a statement. “So I was very surprised to learn by reading about it in the press yesterday that the independent film I worked on over a year ago was sold to Great American Family.”

Television comedies have come a long way from the multi-camera sitcoms of the 1950s. The streaming era has given writers the ability to explore different ways to tell their stories beyond the traditional structure of network comedies. Shows like The Bear, Barry, Russian Doll, WandaVision, and Ted Lasso blur the lines between drama and comedy with their runtimes and plotlines and show us how necessary it is for TV to be a flexible and adaptable artform. But for all of the great shows that this era of television has given us, the push for shows to be shorter and more bingeable has also made studios lose sight of what has been drawing people to comedies for decades.
Even in the streaming era, network comedies can regularly be found in the trending section on streaming services, and these companies know that people are drawn to these longer comedy series. When New Girl...

John Stamos may have toured with The Beach Boys, had a terrific stint on ER and made a deal with the devil to look that good on the brink of 60, but he will always be Uncle Jesse to us. But as it turns out, John Stamos didn’t enjoy certain aspects of Full House, admitting that early on he did not have mercy on his co-stars – Michelle, Stephanie and D.J., that is.
On a recent episode of First We Feast’s Hot Ones, John Stamos remembered being heated when his younger Full House co-stars were getting the bulk of the attention. “I hated that show,” he said, before admitting, “Obviously, I ended up loving it.” The center of his problems came in the form of Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie Tanner. “[She] reads her lines [at a table read], and people are dying laughing, I mean screaming. I was like, ‘What’s happening here?...

John Stamos is best known for portraying Uncle Jesse in the ABC sitcom Full House. Although Stamos loves the recognition he gets from the show, it wasn’t always like that.
The actor recently opened up about how he initially “hated” the comedy after he realized the show was more family-oriented and not like Bosom Buddies as it was originally pitched.
“Full House was… I hated that show,” Stamos said during an appearance on Hot Ones. “Obviously I ended up loving it but it was sort of pitched to me as Bosom Buddies … with a couple of kids in the background. Candace Cameron Bure is being accused of homophobia again.
Miss Benny, who played the first gay character Casey in Fuller House, uploaded a video on TikTok last week, where she opened up about one of her experiences on set and said that “one of the Tanner sisters is very publicly not for the girls.”
Although Benny never indicates which Tanner sister she was referring to in the video, one of the hashtags in the caption was #candacebure. Benny then explains that she was informed about how that person was “trying to get the character removed and not have a queer character on the show.”
“I was also sort of warned and prepared that this person’s fanbase might be encouraged to target me specifically,” she said. Benny then went on to say that although she had worked on the show for two weeks straight, she only spoke to one of the Tanner sisters.

Although Benny never indicates which Tanner sister she was referring to in the video, one of the hashtags in the caption was #candacebure. Benny then explains that she was informed about how that person was “trying to get the character removed and not have a queer character on the show.”

CMT has dropped from its rotation the music video for Jason Aldean’s new single, “Try That in a Small Town,” after just three days of airplay — and in the wake of backlash that arose over the weekend online.
Aldean in turn tweeted that any claims that the song’s lyrics are “pro-lynching” and/or anti-blm are “not only meritless, but dangerous.”

Glamorous star Miss Benny took to TikTok this week to open up about her time working on Netflix's Fuller House, and it sounds like it wasn't the best experience.
Miss Benny played Casey in two episodes of the Full House revival as Casey, a friend of Kimmy's daughter, Ramona.
"One of the Tanner sisters is, like, very publicly not for the girls, if that makes sense," Miss Benny shared on the social media platform, recalling that the cast member tried to get her character removed.
While Miss Benny never mentions Candace Cameron Bure by name, the actress' name was hashtagged in the video.
"I remember I got sat down by the writers and the studio to basically warn me how this person allegedly was trying to get the character removed and not have a queer character on the show."

Candace Cameron Bure has an iffy track record when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community. In the past, she’s been extensively criticized and accused by her peers of excluding queer people, while some have even gone so far as to publicly call her a “bigot.” Given all that, many assumed Bure was the person in question when actress and Fuller House guest star Miss Benny said on TikTok that “one of the Tanner sisters” advocated for the removal of the show’s first openly queer character (played by Miss...

Candace Cameron Bure has denied a former castmate’s accusation that she tried to remove the “Glamorous” star from her role on Netflix’s “Fuller House.”
“’Fuller House’ has always welcomed a wide range of characters,” Bure said in a statement to TheWrap. “I thought Miss Benny did a great job as ‘Casey’ on the show. We didn’t share any scenes together, so we didn’t get a chance to talk much while filming on set. I wish Miss Benny only the best.”
In a TikTok video posted on Thursday, Miss Benny recounted a time when she was told that Casey — the show’s first openly gay character — was at risk of being removed because “one of the Tanner sisters” was “very publicly ‘not for the girls.’”
