"Cool" villain makes the difference
Fluke_Skywalker31 March 2016
Sets the metahuman freak of the week thing aside (for one week at least) in favor of a more conventional villain. Well, a more conventional comic book villain. I doubt there are many bad guys with a freeze ray in the real world. Though his backstory and personality are much different, Captain Cold is basically Mr. Freeze. Though they could've done a bit better with his set up, once he gets rolling he's easily the best baddie yet. A lot of the credit goes to guest star Wentworth Miller ('Prison Break') who brings an icy menace and a little star power to boot.

What's impressive about The 'Flash' so far is that it finds time for character development and relationship building amongst the action and carnage. Even the supporting players all get a little bit of dramatic gristle to chew on. With the dramatic, non-action focus on the romantic side this week, "Going Rogue" may lack the emotional punch of, say, the second episode, but with some fun action moments and a credible villain (who lives to fight another day), it definitely delivers strictly in terms of entertainment.

Major Improvements!
Jdmaxgaming4 December 2014
"Going Rogue" is one of the greatest episodes of The Flash to date. It's action packed and full of love triangles! What a great episode! Captain Cold is a refreshing (see what I did there?) new villain introduced. Probably the best villain we've had! I love Iris and Barry's love triangle and I also like that they gave Felicity and Barry a chance! I don't ship it...not yet anyway. I still feel like Iris and Barry belong together. The ending to this episode was flat out intense, and also very funny! I also love Dr. Wells sinister side, it's dark and creepy and quite disturbing. This episode is a major improvement from the last two episodes and in my opinion, it's right there with the first episode as well! Is it better? No. But there both equally great! Hoping for that one episode that will just be AMAZING! I know it's coming, because this weeks episode was just amazing! Keep it up Flash team! Your doing great! - Jdmax

Perfect Chemistry
SpoodermanDerp29 October 2014
"Going Rogue" is yet again a fun simplistic episode filled with lighthearted moments from The Flash. The episode did well on showing us The Flash's lighthearted side and also his serious side.

Felicity Smoak from Arrow makes a guest appearance in this episode and did great. Her chemistry with Barry Allen is extraordinary given the limited time of the episode. The episode made me want Felicity to become a main stay of the show and for her to side with The Flash badly. The antagonist, Captain Cold was a mediocre villain and his motives remain unclear and are yet to be explored. However, it is redeemed with the breathtaking visuals that is seen in each action sequence of the episode. Captain Cold's powers are mainly focused on his gun which obviously can freeze The Flash and it gave way to well executed action and a great battle between opposing strengths. A true highlight of the whole show especially in the episode, the visuals and action get better each episode. Although as episodes progress, the cops become more useless in the narrative. The cops are becoming repetitive, whenever they're on screen The Flash just grabs your attention and they will seem invisible and do nothing worthwhile rather than going in the crime scene.

Overall the most fun episode so far in the series and I would like to see more of Barry and Felicity. Whenever the two are on screen, they are utterly perfect and watching Felicity in Arrow will completely be a whole new experience. +With great chemistry between Barry and Felicity, +Amazing action that really defines what The Flash is capable of, +Breathtaking visuals, -but the Cops are becoming useless as the series progress.

Verdict: 8.7/10

Enjoyable
sarahsuziejames31 October 2014
Being a fan of Wentworth Miller I watched this episode exclusively for him. This was his big comeback on Television. And it was great. But surprisingly I really liked everything in this episode. So much that I wanted to catch up on this show and I watched the other 3 episodes online. This show has all the essentials to be a great one.

Grant is a good choice for Barry Allen. All the other characters do a good job as well. And it's really interesting to see how The Flash progresses episode after episode.

I thought Going Rogue was the best episode amongst all 4. There was the right amount of action, thrills, humor and romance,

The scenes between Barry and Felicity were entertaining.

And Wentworth Miller did a splendid job as Leonard/ Captain Cold. It was an absolute delight to watch him on screen again. Hoping to see a lot more episodes with him on the show.

The Flash has been quite enjoyable so far. And now it's something for me to look forward to every Tuesday night.

The Flash is a great new show. It's a show I look forward to every Tuesday night. Going Rogue had humor, romance, thrills making it the most entertaining episode by far.

And of course the highlight of the show was seeing the awesome, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold. Watching, Wentworth on screen again was an absolute treat. He was perfect as Leonard/ Captain Cold. Looking forward to seeing more of him on the show. The chemistry between Barry and Felicity was good. All in all a really good episode. Hope the show keeps going like this. And also hoping to see a lot more of Captain Cold

Best one. Yet
danielmscofield0131 October 2014
Going Rogue was undoubtedly the best episode in the series, so far.

RAVES

+ We got to see various sides of Barry, in this episode. Grant Gustin, does a good job of switching from a playful to serious to romantic side.

+ Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart/ Captain Cold. This was one character I was looking forward to seeing, the most. I haven't seen much of Millers work, but I thought he did complete justice to the role. He was great as the antagonist. It's going to be interesting to see how things progress between Flash and Cold

+ Barry & Felicity.

+ The Director and Cinematographer have done a wonderful job, in this episode. All the visuals were quite a treat and the action sequences were highly entertaining

Rants

Nothing really. This episode was really good.

And thus deserves a 10/10.

Going Rogue
SpideyVerse2320 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode sees Barry realize that not all the changes in Barry's life after he got struck by lightning are positive ones. Barry meets the first villain after he became the Flash who can actually kill him, due to something a member of Team Flash creates. Meanwhile, Felicity comes over from Arrow to catch up with Barry after he woke up, and the timing felt right since Barry is currently questioning his new friends in this episode and is being forced to accept Iris and Eddie as a couple.

I liked how seamlessly the mini crossover was executed in this episode with Felicity sticking around for the entire episode, though I didn't particularly like the Joe and Eddie plot.

A COOL use of 40 minutes

Being one of the earlier episodes of The Flash this episode is nothing short of amazing. The acting from Wentworth Miller is great. Even the action sequences are awesome. These were the glory days of Flash.

I Love This Universe
ThomasDrufke29 October 2014
What's really great about Arrow and The Flash is that just like on nights like this, characters can cross over to the other show and it wont feel out of place. And I'm glad that these shows aren't sharing a universe with the films. It would significantly limit the shows power of storytelling which is what Arrow and The Flash are best at. Onto tonight's show, Felicity was the major highlight and brought out the best in each of the main characters.

We all love Felicity from Arrow along with the quirkiness that comes with her, and to see her once again connect with Barry was great. I love that she still had a significant amount of sexual innuendos just as she does with Oliver. I also completely buy into them both being friend zoned by Iris and Oliver and acknowledging how right they are for each other. Their kiss at the end was bittersweet but may be all we get with them for quite awhile.

Captain Cold was a welcome addition to Flash' rogues gallery, and although I don't know how fond I am of the actor playing him, I know there will be more to come from his character. The West family side story was forgettable especially considering how predictable it was, but in the long run it was necessary. I'm still not sold on Eddie Thawne being reverse flash but they are doing a good job of making us believe he's a good guy before pulling the classic CW bait and switch.

Back at STAR labs Cisco is haunted by the fact that he was the reason for Captain Cold's gun being stolen. If was the first glimpse into how menacing Wells can be to Cisco and Caitlyn and also into Barry failing to save a life for the first time. It was just another great thing that this episode had to offer. The character development has significantly improved over just the course of 4 episodes.

+Felicity & her innuendos

+Building a universe

+Barry & Felicity's bittersweet kiss

+Wells' menacing scenes

-Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold

-West family side story

Mixed reaction !
Nishanth-N29 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Obviously this is the "Better" episode of 'The Flash' till date. It sure has a high rating as "Prison Break" fans wanted to really watch the magic of Micheal Schofield on screen , after a long time.

Wentworth Miller playing a darker role as Leonard Snart / Captain Cold is the Highlight of this episode. AND the only reason to watch the upcoming episodes of "The Flash" featuring Captain Cold.

Felicity Smoak is just being tossed in to grab some attention.

""S.T.A.R. Labs"" - with all the High Tech Equipment(or weapons) lying around, lacking BASIC security was the dumbest thing u could ever expect !!

Not a bad start
mcmillentm1 November 2014
The show has had a good start with great special effects and production values. But it shows signs of bad writing that could kill the series. The writers need to pay special attention to Barry's unique powers. Scenes where the bad guy is able to aim and shoot Barry while Barry sees them make no sense. Monologing is especially silly. Just hesitating a second is enough for Barry to run around them and knock them in the head. If the villain doesn't totally surprise Barry, then there's simply no way he can get attack Barry. This would only work if Barry's speed was somehow neutralized or if the villain is impervious to Barry's attack, and Capt. Cold certainly wasn't. Barry would never have allowed him to just walk away from a fight.

If the writers can tighten up the use of Barry's speed and the villains and if they can make his father's case for justice more compelling, this could be a great series. Right now it's just Luke warm.

Also, the attraction between Barry and Iris just isn't there. The two have zero chemistry and no compelling reasons for being romantic. No real connection at all except their shared childhood. In fact this shared childhood makes their romance less of a possibility and somewhat unsavory. They are more like siblings than potential lovers.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Going Rogue
lbramson10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The story is simple: Barry fights a thug called Captain Cold who uses a freeze gun created by Cisco. I had to round the score of this one up to 9 because the highlights are really peak early Flash! While I, of course, LOOOOVE Leonard Snart as a villain, he isn't my favorite part. Because to me the stuff involving Cisco stole the show! Cisco is my favorite Flash character all due to his development in this episode, having to deal with the consequences of his actions. Wells is so mad he threatens to fire him!!! Not to mention, Cisco also has some of his funniest moments. For example, the ending when he uses the S. T. A. R Labs vacuum cleaner, if you know, you know. Oh, and Felicity appears as well! This was an enjoyable ride and I round it to a 9 even though it's an 8.8.

Great Villain
khamenkm472 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Captain Cold is and will probably remain in between the best ones out there, I like a lot his way of doing things and his brilliant intelect. About Barry, I feel bad for him because he's blaming himself for not saving that man that Captain Cold killed. It was really intense, the way Cisco admited about creating the weapon, Dr. Wells's diabolic way of blaming Cisco and telling him not to never do that again, and of coruse, the way Cisco saved barry at the end with a vacuum cleaner and them being friends again afterwards. I made myself a good opinion about this show and want to watch it until the end.

Really dumb episode
baffledx71 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
What I really didn't like about this episode is how , the flash wasn't able to beat the the bad guy. They have shown in the previous episodes, very exaggerated examples of the flash speed, for example when they show him doing a bunch of stuff so fast that everything seems times still, with that in mind the stupid freezing gun was no excuse for the flash to not move fast enough to dodge the freezing blast and kill the guy a hundred times. Besides that, they had a bunch clichés in the episode , that were just really annoying. Worst episode so far. Something else that bothered me is how the police guards at the museam, didn't shoot this guy , like wtf, there were so many angles that guy could have been shot,he was walking really slow the whole time!
