- Open with Michael being led to the casino vault where Alex has placed Claire's mother. Michael thinks she should be killed, while Alex is of the opinion they can learn from her. Alex plays the Chosen One card, thinking he can pull of an "evection," which would bring Claire's mother back. It's a dangerous undertaking for both parties.
Claire and her father talk about missing her mother. A music box he gave her has made her nostalgic. He tells her that a no-confidence vote will be held later that day and he wants her help.
Whele shows William the ceremonial blindfold Claire found in their home and was using to blackmail him. He tells William he's proud of him, saying he must be working to take down the Black Acolytes.
Michael asks Uriel for the Apocrypha book. She knows what he'll be using it for and says she needs a favor. Uriel wants the opportunity to look at Alex' markings. She's interested in them since they were handed down by "my father." Uriel gives Alex the book and Michael tells him the Apocrypha is the writings of the only prophet to conduct the eviction of an angel. For thousands of years since, nobody has succeeded to replicate the feat. As Alex looks at a particularly important prayer on a faded page additions are made to his markings. He can read the book.
William tells one of the Acolytes they need to temporarily disband while his father is snooping around.
The angel in Claire's mother tells Michael she regretted taking the body after she did it and has attempted to lead a good life ever since. He isn't impressed but does not kill her.
Claire tells Arika of their troubles within the senate. Felicia says all she cares about are the promises Whele has made to her.
Claire is called away from the meeting by Alex, who tells her she needs to come with. He's adamant it cannot wait. Alex brings Claire to her mother and tells her that her father has been maintaining a relationship with the angel. Alex thinks there's a chance he can bring her mother back. Claire wants him to execute her. He tells her he thinks the markings could help. She promises to give it a try.
William's subordinate Paul meets with the acolytes to give them the message about laying low. During the meeting two armed men open fire on them with high-powered weapons.
Riesen mentions to Arika that he knows Helena's air force really isn't that strong. He says they have a common enemy in Gabriel. He thinks Gabriel could come after Helena next, but Arika says Queen Evelyn doesn't share her concern about Gabriel.
Claire speaks with the angel in her mother. She tells Claire that she was the one who left her the music box. She tries to convince Claire she can love her the way her mother did, but Claire isn't buying it. The angel knows a special nickname that Claire's mother had used and this seems to convince Claire something might be there.
William comes upon the massacre of the Acolytes. Paul tells him his father's guards were behind it. Paul wants to tell Gabriel but William says he'll handle it himself.
With Michael and Claire standing by Alex starts reading the prayer from the Apocrypha. The angel begs Claire to make him stop, saying "he'll kill us both." After Alex finishes the purple veins and sharpened teeth disappear. It seems to have worked. But after a few moments Claire's mother begins convulsing and falls to the floor. Michael says there's nothing to be done, "your mother's spirit is gone." Claire is furious and leaves the room.
Riesen meets with Whele and tells him that he was conned by Arika into overpromising. He told the rest of the senate and a new deal has been made. The plan is that Arika will get rid of Evelyn and Vega will help govern Helena. Risen then tells Whele that the no confidence vote was held and asks him to cast his vote. He votes "confidence, of course" which Risen tells him makes it unanimous.
Claire tells Risen she knows about her mother. She tells him the people need never know. She demands that after her marriage he steps down.
William tells his father he killed his guards. He says "my" Acolytes need protecting. Whele tells him that nothing he can do will save him from his betrayal. Whele walks away and his son points a gun at him. William puts the gun to his head but can't pull the trigger. Whele laughs and William knocks him unconscious with two hits.
Michael finds Uriel sketching Alex' markings. He asks him for her secrecy, to commit the markings to memory only. She gives him her word.
Whele wakes up surrounded by the Acolytes in a room filled with candles. William says he thinks he can be saved and wraps the tourniquet thingy around his father's chest. He begins twisting and Whele's ribs crack. He drops to his knees and William holds him. "It's okay father. You're going to be okay."
Claire goes to her mother's body. She seems to still be alive though the eyes are vacant. Claire covers her mother's mouth and nose until she stops breathing.
