SVP, Television Paul Kim and VP of Television Kendyll Boucher will serve as exec producers of the small-screen adaptation, we’re told.
Billed as a gender-swapped Lost Boys, or The Lost Boys meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer, In Nightfall was published by Penguin Random House/Delacorte Press in March 2023, going viral on X and being springboarded into the publishing zeitgeist when no one showed up to the author’s book launch in Tempe, Arizona.

For countless fans of the romantic comedy, Hugh Grant will always be just a boy standing in front of a girl. But speaking with IndieWire for his single-episode guest appearance as Ed Keplinger in HBO’s “The Regime,” the 63-year-old British actor seemed blissfully out of touch with the genre that launched his stardom.
When asked about Hollywood’s rom-com resurgence, Grant said, “I didn’t know there was one. What should I watch?”
Since the summer that brought us “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” movies about meet-cutes and star-crossed lovers have strengthened their foothold in streaming while taking leaps forward at the box office. IndieWire suggested Grant try anything with Glen Powell, a standout rom-com stud also known for “Top Gun: Maverick” who has been described as this generation’s Grant on occasion.

Scott Stuber, who pushed Netflix to expand into blockbuster movie territory, is stepping down from the streaming service’s top film job to form his own media company.
Stuber will remain with the streamer until March, at which point Netflix Cco Bela Bajaria will temporarily assume his role while she searches for a replacement. Bloomberg first reported the news.
Under Stuber’s direction, Netflix’s feature business aggressively entered the blockbuster space, courting filmmakers such as Zack Snyder, the Russo brothers, Michael Bay and Rawson Marshall Thurber. The era began with the Will Smith starrer Bright, the 2017 film that had a reported budget of $90 million, a hefty number that turned heads at the time but would soon look quaint compared to what was to come.
Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, cost somewhere in the $250 million to $300 million range, while the Russo’ Gray Man cost in the $200 million range.

Annie Murphy's career on screen began in the mid-2000s, and since her breakout role in the beloved sitcom "Schitt's Creek," she has had a number of notable roles in film and TV. The actor made her TV debut in the 2007 television film "Lethal Obsession" and went on to have supporting roles in both Canadian and American works, including "Blue Mountain State" and "Rookie Blue."
By the early 2010s, her acting career began to plateau, and Murphy's work was inconsistent. It wasn't until 2013, when she auditioned for the role of Alexis Rose in "Schitt's Creek," that her career really took off. In a 2020 interview on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Murphy explained, "Just before 'Schitt's Creek,' things were quite bleak. My house had just burnt down. I had like $3 in my bank account. What if Nicolas Cage was Freddy Krueger, minus the fondness for murdering people, the burn-induced scarring, and the razor-bladed glove? Cage's character, the unsuspecting middle-aged professor Paul Matthews, even shares Freddy's predilection for cozy knitted sweaters in "Dream Scenario," the latest eccentric exercise in metamodern storytelling from contemporary indie powerhouse A24.
Much like Paul becomes an overnight celebrity when he inexplicably begins popping up in people's dreams around the world, "Dream Scenario" has suddenly found itself in the spotlight following its positive reception on the film festival circuit. With Cage essentially portraying two characters in the film (the real Paul and the one who keeps intruding into people's nighttime fantasies), his performances in "Dream Scenario" are already being compared to his acclaimed work playing radically different twins in director Spike Jonze and writer Charlie Kaufman's surreal dramedy "Adaptation." In his own review for /Film, Matt Donato declared the...

Netflix’s new and upcoming romance, ‘Love at First Sight’ might just be the Ott platform’s best story yet since the 2018 rom-com! But you know what has to be an Ace for all love stories to be top-class?
You said that right – there needs to be a definite chemistry and we can say for sure that the greatest romantic movies like The Notebook, may be a little cringe for some – but the chemistry, plotline, and acting certainly blew our minds!
We can safely say that the two leads of ‘Love at First Sight’, Haley...

Don’t blink though, because even though Season 3 is delayed due to the ongoing strikes, it will likely be the last one.

Now that the first weekend of August is in the books, the most competitive part of the summer is over, giving us a reasonably good idea of what this year's biggest movie season looked like. Barring any surprise breakouts over the next few weeks, it's safe to call it a mixed bag. Sure, we had gargantuan hits like "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer," but we had massive flops like "The Flash" and "Haunted Mansion." Yet, while high-profile misfires took the lion's share of the spotlight, it was "Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken" that slipped through the cracks as one of the summer's biggest duds. More than that, it may end up as the lowest-grossing movie in DreamWorks Animation's history.
After a miserable sixth weekend in which the film grossed a mere $30,000 domestically, "Ruby Gillman" has earned just $40.8 million worldwide. This includes a truly miserable $15.6 million domestically. Against a $70 million budget, Universal Pictures...

When it comes to teen romance, Jenny Han is a force to be reckoned with. Her first onscreen success — Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before adaptation — played a pivotal role in reviving the romantic comedy genre back in 2018. Last year, Han took her storytelling prowess to television with another heartfelt book-to-screen adaptation: Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty.
The teen drama follows Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung), a 16-year-old girl who has spent every summer at Cousins Beach. Unlike the first season, which introduced a debutante ball not present in the original novels, Season 2 caters more to book fans and remains fairly faithful to the source material, give or take a few changes. It matures in tandem with the characters, tackling heavier themes as everyone grapples with the weight of Susannah’s (Rachel Blanchard) death.

While viewers impatiently wait for new weekly episodes of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Jenny Han has another show and a set of movies available to stream. “Xo, Kitty” and the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” films contain similar themes of teenage love and coming of age. All three heroines in Han’s different works come from her books — “The Summer I Turned Pretty” trilogy or the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy.
If you want to go chronologically, it depends on whether you go by the books’ publish dates or the order in which they were adapted. For adaptation order, start with “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” From there, you can either watch the spinoff show “Xo, Kitty” or break for Season 1 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” Plus, Han makes cameo appearances in each installment of her film series and shows.

The second season of Prime Video’s teen romance series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” stays on course.
Author Jenny Han is a familiar name to young adult readers thanks to her contemporary romances like “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” Once Netflix adapted that trilogy into a wildly popular series of rom-coms, Han emerged as a real power player in film and TV. Han has evolved into a savvy and reliable showrunner, bringing her own novels and characters to life with a deft touch and keen understanding of her core audience. This revelation may have come to many of her fans via the sweet but sharp Netflix series “Xo, Kitty,” but she’d already established her behind-the-camera credentials over on Amazon thanks to the adaptation of her pre-To All the Boys YA romance series, “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”

So far, the summer movie season has seen its fair share of disappointments, and not even Harrison Ford‘s Indiana Jones could turn things around in the weekend before the 4th of July. Read on for the weekend box office report.
It’s been 15 years since Ford sported Indiana Jones’s trademark hat and whip, so his return as the popular adventurer in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” should have been one of the summer’s biggest event movies. Disney released the Lucasfilm movie into 4,600 theaters, making it one of the widest releases of all time, but that didn’t help matters much. After making $7.2 million in Thursday previews and $24 million on Friday, “Dial of Destiny” brought in a relatively disappointing $60 million over the weekend.
It averaged roughly $13,000 per venue, which is decent, but not enough for it to be considered one of the summer hits. For comparison,...

Things have been up and down and all over the place this summer, but maybe a sure thing like Harrison Ford returning for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” might stabilize the box office as June turns into July this weekend. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
It has been 15 years since Ford last played the fan-fave role of the history professor turned action-adventurer, and having just turned 80, “Dial of Destiny” most definitely will be his last foray as the character. Granted, the 2008 blockbuster “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” is still scoffed at by diehard fans, despite it grossing $317.1 million domestic and $786.6 million worldwide.

Kitty Song Covey's fascinating love life has nothing on the "Xo, Kitty" cast's real-life friendships. According to Anna Cathcart, who has portrayed Kitty on screen since the first "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" movie made its Netflix debut in 2018, the bond she shares with her castmates has made her journey as the character all the more worthwhile. "I am truly so grateful for all of them because they made such a huge difference," she tells Popsugar. "It's honestly what makes the experience at the end: the people that you meet and the friendships that you make."
On screen, Cathcart and her costars - Gia Kim, Min-young Choi, Sang Heon Lee, Anthony Keyvan, and Jocelyn Shelfo - are inseparable. Even when their characters get on each other's nerves or find themselves entangled in a complicated love triangle (read: love square), they can't help but stay involved in each other's lives.

Getting In Front Of The Competition
The International Olympic Committee said on Thursday that Swiss-based, Chinese-owned Infront Sports & Media would handle broadcast right sales in much of Asia for the next series of Summer and Winter games.
The deal covers 22 territories including Afghanistan, Brunei, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam – but not China, Japan or South Korea, and runs 2026-2032. That means it will cover the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Summer games. The 2030 Winter Olympics, which have yet to be allocated a host, and all Youth Olympic Games during this period will also be covered.
Infront, which is headed by Philippe Blatter and has been owned by China’s Dalian Wanda since 2015, replaces the Japanese advertising and marketing giant Dentsu, which had handled the rights...

Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper wants to get in with Gen Z.
Cooper and her fiancé, Ace Entertainment CEO Matt Kaplan, have co-founded Trending, a media company that says it’s “committed to elevating today’s voices and crafting tomorrow’s stories for an independent, resourceful and inclusive generation.”
The new venture will produce scripted and unscripted content, podcasts, digital media, live events, merch, and more, it says. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kaplan–a former Awesomeness exec–will lead financing, production, and distribution, and Cooper will lead audience engagement and franchising.
Trending will serve as the parent company for both Call Her Daddy (which has a $60+ million distribution deal with Spotify and is the platform’s No. 1 podcast for women) and Ace Entertainment.
“Every day I interact with countless young people who push the boundaries behind the stereotypes and misconceptions we often hear about Gen Z,” Cooper said in a statement.
