The Weeknd surprised fans last week with the release of his Daft Punk-assisted song “Starboy,” the title track to his upcoming album, out November 25. Now the “Earned It” singer has shared the cinematic music video for the single, directed by frequent collaborator Grant Singer.
The dark and gritty clip features The Weeknd with his former signature hairstyle, held hostage and suffocated by an unknown masked stranger dressed in black. As the video continues, it’s revealed that the man is his new “Starboy” persona, who then starts to smash awards, plaques and all history of his former self with a large neon cross. At the end he’s seen driving away into the night with a panther as his passenger. Unfortunately the electronic duo only appear in a portrait at the beginning of the clip.

On their very first date, they travel through a dark path that descends into surreal chaos where Pinkney’s greatest hopes and worst fears are realized. Nothing fits the music documentary format quite so compellingly as a life cut tragically short. In addition to the ready-made dramatic arc, a subject who leaves this mortal coil before their time usually also leaves a certain amount of mystery in their wake, providing ample grist for filmmakers (and the folks they interview) to chew on.
Even when the hows and whys of an artist's tragic exit are a matter of uncontroversial record, questions of "What might have been?" inevitably linger over their prematurely truncated discography — in itself a far...

After months of speculation, the documentary Daft Punk Unchained, which centers around everyone’s favorite French house robots, has finally received an English language release date. The documentary was released on French TV earlier this year, but English speaking fans were left in the dark without a subtitled version or any mention of a Us release.
Daft Punk Unchained was directed by Hervé Martin Delpierre, and features rare footage, live performances, and exclusive interviews with collaborators including Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Giorgio Morodor, Pete Tong and the duo themselves.
Unfortunately, the documentary’s foreseeable releases simply includes a premiere on Showtime that will air December 10 at 9pm Est, so now would be the time to upgrade your basic cable package. Ahead of the documentary’s stateside television debut, Daft Punk has released a trailer that features plenty of robot action, performance shots, and celebrity appearances.

No stranger to the world of film, Daft Punk has provided the scores for Tron:Legacy and Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, made their own film with Daft Punk’s Electroma, and were even depicted (briefly) in this year’s stellar Eden. They’re now getting the documentary treatment in Daft Punk Unchained and today brings the first trailer.
Airing this summer in France, it’ll now hit worldwide sometime later this year and comes from director Hervé Martin Delpierre. This first preview seems to go deep into the mystery surrounding Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, but hopefully it also explores the process of making their distinct music.
Featuring interviews with Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, Kanye West, Michel Gondry, Paul Williams, Peter Lindbergh, Leiji Matsumoto, Pete Tong, and much, check out the trailer and poster below.

Few musicians are as equally mysterious and revered as Daft Punk, the electronic music duo which consists of French musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, both always concealed by sleek suits and helmets at every public performance. And now a feature length film is on the way called Daft Punk Unchained, touted as the […]

One more time! BBC Worldwide has debuted an official trailer for the doc Daft Punk Unchained, from director Hervé Martin Delpierre. After their involvement in Mia Hansen-Løve's film Eden (which I highly recommend), the Daft Punk guys seem a bit more relaxed with telling their story. Daft Punk Unchained is apparently an entire documentary, with a runtime of 85 minutes, about Daft Punk and their rise to fame. Maybe they didn't want to go with "Unmasked" because there is no real unmasking? "Unchained" is so much wilder. I am hoping that this is the definitive doc that examines them from the inside, but I'm not sure. It features the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Kanye West, Michel Gondry, Paul Williams and many others. Dig it! The first BBC trailer for Hervé Martin Delpierre's documentary Daft Punk Unchained, from YouTube: The first ever documentary on the most secretive duo in the world.

The men behind the masks of Daft Punk, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, not only created a mystique by never showing their faces, but put all the more attention on their work, which changed the landscape of electronic music. Now, as befits a duo that have made a huge impression on the pop culture landscape, a documentary is one the way. "Daft Punk Unchained" already aired this summer, only in France, but now its making its way to the rest of the world, and a new trailer provides an inside peek. Collaborators like Kanye West, Pharrell, Nile Rodgers, and Paul Williams share their insights, along with folks like Giorgio Moroder, Michel Gondry, Peter Lindbergh, Leiji Matsumoto, and Pete Tong, in what looks to be a fairly standard, but no less compelling chronicle from director Hervé Martin Delpierre. A new trailer for the documentary feature, Daft Punk Unchained, has been released online this week ahead of the film’s worldwide release at the end of the year (it already hit theatres in France back in June).
The footage in the trailer features many of the electric duo’s most famous recent collaborators, including Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. They speak fondly of their appreciation for the French musicians, and credits for the feature suggest that they will all feature fairly heavily in telling Daft Punk’s story.
Perhaps most intriguing of all, however, is the focus that the trailer puts around the mysterious identities of the masked duo. Cutting clips from old interview features, the footage shows the two talking candidly about their desire to keep their faces hidden through their career. In the final shots, however, a tease of one member facing the camera and...

Daft Punk without their helmets is an odd sight - it's almost a surprise they aren't actually robots under there.
And it looks like the duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, will be taking off the headgear in a new documentary.
Daft Punk Unchained looks at the story of music's most secretive duo, and features many of their star collaborators.
Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, Kanye West, Michel Gondry, Paul Williams, Peter Lindbergh, Leiji Matsumoto and Pete Tong will all contribute to the film.
It of course won't be the first time that the duo have been seen unmasked - they were recently spotted without their signature headgear in La.
The pair have said their costumes are not a gimmick, explaining they stem from their own desire for "sci-fi glam" and desire to create fictional personas.
Homem-Christo said: "We're not performers, we're not models - it would not...
