Exclusive: Fox has handed a script commitment to animated workplace comedy Taskmasters, from Brian Keith Etheridge (The Neighborhood), Brendon Walsh (Crank Yankers), cartoonist Johnny Ryan, Fox Entertainment Studios and Fox’s Bento Box Entertainment.
Co-written by Etheridge, Walsh and Ryan, Taskmasters is a half-hour animated workplace comedy that follows a crew of lovable wackos navigating the gig economy at a fly-by-night, “we’ll do any job,” business. Everyone has a high school movie that rings uncomfortably true to their own experiences as a teenager. For some, it's a bitingly satirical portrait like "Heathers" or "Mean Girls," while for others, it's a brutally honest dramedy like "The Edge of Seventeen." But for me, there's only one film that really captures what my time was like as a non-Mormon attending a predominantly Mormon high school in a small Utah town in the early 2000s, and that's "Napoleon Dynamite." True, writer/director Jared Hess' 2004 cult hit takes place in the filmmaker's hometown of Preston, Idaho, but ... well, let's just say that if you know anything about small-town Utah and Idaho Mormon culture, then you know they weren't exactly worlds apart when the film was made.
I was fortunate enough to have graduated from high school literal weeks before "Napoleon Dynamite" arrived, which spared me from having to listen to my...

Craig McCracken’s “Kid Cosmic” is one of the best animated shows of the past few years, bursting with heart and imagination. And while it debuted on Netflix almost exactly a year ago, it has already cycled through three seasons and 24 half-hour episodes. And while it is sad to see the show go, it ends in a way that is both emotionally satisfying and extremely entertaining (we are forbidden from discussing details).
With the third and final season now streaming on Netflix, TheWrap spoke with series creator Craig McCracken about where the show came from and ending “Kid Cosmic” and concluding the series its own terms.
Secret Origins
The idea for “Kid Cosmic” struck McCracken back in 2009. “It really was just this odd kid that lived in this desert community and drove people, local truckers and staff, in this truck stop crazy. And he had found this object that he assumed was from space,...

“Last Man Standing” is adding Molly McCook and Jet Jurgensmeyer to its sitcom cast.
McCook has landed the role of Mandy, one of Tim Allen and Nancy Travis’ on-screen daughters in the series. The role was previously played by Molly Ephraim when the series was on ABC. Ephraim opted not to reprise the role when Fox picked up the seventh season a year after ABC originally canceled it.
Jurgensmeyer replaces Flynn Morrison in the role of Boyd. Boyd is Allen’s character’s grandson, the son of his daughter Kristin (Amanda Fuller). Producers recently said they wanted to “age up” the character to about 12 years old.
McCook most recently appeared on Netflix sitcom “The Ranch,” but her other television credits include “Modern Family,” “Agents of Shield,” and “Glee.” She will also soon appear on “Good Trouble,” Freeform’s upcoming spinoff of “The Fosters.”

Disney hasn’t released a stop-motion feature since 2012’s Frankenweenie, but that doesn’t mean meticulously hand-crafted animation is without a home at the House of Mouse. The studio recently released fan-created stop-motion videos with Rogue One toys to promote the new Star Wars movie. And now it’s is unveiling a line-up of four stop-motion animated spots on network Disney Xd. Foolish mortals, this is your third day of Halloween treat (if you don’t celebrate Halloween all October long, then this might not be your cup of pumpkin chai tea) from Disney: Two 30-second spots featuring Disney Xd characters daring to enter the Haunted Mansion. The spots (along with two more that’ll be released later this month) are the work of Disney Xd teaming up with Walt Disney Imagineering and Stoopid Buddy Studios, the animation company that makes Robot Chicken. Haunted Mansion enthusiasts have plenty to geek...
