I thought it was good...
SummerMaru17 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I like UK movies so even though the rating was low, I wanted to see it. If it had been from the US, I wouldn't have bothered. UK and other foreign movies, no matter how bad they might be, have a uniqueness to them that US movies don't.

Because Awaiting was only an hour and a half, it was enjoyable and slightly horrific without becoming boring. It also wasn't a ridiculous scenario. I never heard of Diana Vickers before seeing this and I thought she was very good in her role. I also like the music at the end-was surprised it was also her singing. When you're in the middle of nowhere, it's easy to get away with things. And as for the daughter, this was the only life she had known so it didn't seem odd to her. I really don't want to give away spoilers for anyone who does want to see it. I think it was a good horror/thriller movie with some shocking scenes. Don't let a few negative reviews stop you from watching. It's definitely a unique movie - not the type of story that's been done over and over again.

Has It's Moment But Pretty Mediocre For The Most Part
HorrorOverEverything8 September 2015
Don't have a whole lot to say about this flick, it's not terrible or anything but it fails to really do anything new. Seemed to have a good budget, the actors/actresses all did a fine job, and the effects were solid but every thing this film brought to the table just felt like things I have seen in tons of other horror films.

Still was able to hold my interest til the credits and the last 20 minutes were pretty thrilling but nothing too memorable or unpredictable ever really happened. Not a bad movie, but pretty forgettable and not one I would suggest going out of your way to see.

Not that bad but...yeah.
lindo-julet18 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It's not that bad. The actors commit to the characters and I believed it. Not a terrible script but not as good as it could be. The ending, the very last scene prevents the movie from getting more than a 6. I mean... The writer/director didn't need that part. It would have been less cliche without that last "she's crazy now too!" bit. Would have been more powerful to have her end on the suffering note and not knowing how to live in society. Also, it was a forced ending. Why did she go in the freezer??? Why in the world, after all that would she go back to the traumatizing shed? And look in the freezer with no hint that there's something in it that she couldn't have guessed (more body parts and such) would be inside. So that last bit was cheap compared to a fully fleshed out sequence of events.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
nogodnomasters16 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Morris (Tony Curran) lives on the Moors. He owns a wrecker and has a nefarious watch collection. As he is about to add to his collection, his daughter (Diana Vickers) interrupts him and Jake (Rupert Hill) becomes a house guest in what comes initially as a farmer's daughter joke. Jake's desire to leave meets with resistance from Morris who operates a profitable business.

Th picture starts out good but then stagnates. There are a limited number of victims so the film must concentrate on what few it has. The influence Jake has on the daughter wasn't done well. They should have cut 20 minutes from the film.

Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

Hold on
kosmasp5 September 2018
You have to have a certain love for this special kind of horror film type. Not really my thing, though I have been proven wrong by some really fine examples (Loved Ones comes to mind). This isn't the worst of them, especially because you have a really fine actor as the bad guy here. A lot of weird things are happening though and our "lead" good guy, seems to struggle to make the right choices.

Certain things you may understand, but of course not all of them. There is violence, there is terror and there is a certain amount of blood too. If you think you can handle it and you are sure you want to watch it, then go ahead. Make your day

Just don't see it. It's truly terrible. And not in a good way.
dalriada3531 August 2015
We picked this film from a good number showing to spend our hard earned cash on at Frighfest in London today. Frighfest is a truly excellent festival full of brilliant horror films, however, this is not one of them. Not by a long chalk. Even the production values which were fairly high and the normally excellent Tony Curran couldn't save this God awful film. The main problems with this film, and the issues were numerous, was the terrible script and the terrible acting of Diana Vickers. I don't often give reviews although I do watch many films. The strength of my feeling means that I am compelled to warn horror fans not to spend either their precious time or their money on this film. Instead, watch The Lesson made for much less money, much better acting and very well executed.

Fans of the Genre will enjoy
austenyoung-233-32257325 October 2015
The film starts with the main character Jake having an accident on his way to an unnamed city for an important 'once in a lifetime' meeting. He has an accident on the road and awakens in the care of Morris and his daughter. OK so that's the main bit in a paragraph or so.

I've seen plenty of bad reviews for this film and I don't agree with many of them. This is a horror film for horror fans and I think some people hoping for a drama or a psychological thriller have come into this and been disappointed. The acting is fine, the tension is built well and there is enough gore for horror fans to keep you engaged but its not to the point of overkill. (its not hostel or saw) Well written and believable characters helped it along and the scenery is well shot and helped me suspend my disbelief and be carried away to this British hillbilly incestuous nightmare. Overall if you enjoy horror and films like 'the loved ones', you will find something here to keep you entertained. I sincerely hope that writer/director keeps going with the horror genre because I really like what I have seen so far and god knows the genre is wide open for the taking 7/10

Emmerdale meets Psycho.....
FlashCallahan10 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Morris is a recluse with psychotic tendencies, whose life changes when his seemingly innocent daughter Lauren rescues one of his victims and befriends him.

Jake, a lawyer from the city waiting to propose to his girlfriend properly, soon realises that he is stranded, and his presence in the house gradually reveals unexpected and dark mysteries from the past.....

It's a certainly interesting premise, guy gets involved in a 'road accident' comes round in a strange place, with a young girl who is infatuated with him, and her psychotic father.....

But in fact, once you've seen the film, you'll have that strange feeling of déjà Vu, because no matter how enjoyable the film can be at times, it's just too familiar, as it has hints from lots of popular horror movies from the past 50 or so years.

The films that it reminded of the most were The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The People Under The Stairs, Psycho, and a little hunt of Straw Dogs.

All these films featured a person out of their comfort zone in an element of peril, and having an injury of some sort. The thing these four films have in common, are that they are far superior to Awaiting.

But, the three central performances are solid and Curran especially keeps you gripped whenever he almost loses his marbles (a little bit more).

The bloke from coronation street is good, but he's your stereotypical rich boy in peril who thinks its a good idea to be verbally facetious toward your captor when imminent peril is about to be inflicted upon you, just to let them know that your intellectually superior at that particular time......good choice.

Vickers is also good, in fact very good for an X factor runner up, her innocent, almost childlike performance is pretty disturbing, especially during the Christmas dinner scene, but then one scene makes you think she may have been a bit of a diva on set, because two certain body parts are CG erased, and it's blooming obvious.

So all in all, it's a decent movie, with a couple of decent twists, but you'll think you've seen it before.

OK storyline ruined by terrible acting.
n-nicolaou-849-99566812 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I am really surprised that a British made film could be so bad..the storyline although not the most original isn't too bad. However, the acting is terrible!

They seem to have thrown in any old thing they thought would be disturbing to an audience, cannibalism, psychotisism, hints on incest etc but not developed the plot properly leaving the story to be just a mess of horror film clichés.

Diana Vickers should definitely stick to singing as she plays a very unconvincing part in this film and I found myself actually rolling my eyes half the time she spoke. The expression on her face throughout the film is what I can only describe as pathetic, like a school girl that's been given a part in the school production for the first time not someone who has just found out her father is a murderer and cannibal. Her only purpose in this film is to look pretty and that alone.

As for the rest of the actors (all 4 of them), Tony Curran at times almost made me believe his character and I can tell that he is not an awful actor even in this abomination of a film. Rupert Hill offers a very Coronation street performance..no more to be said here and as far as Peter Woodward is concerned, a very theatrical performance is given, particularly during his death scene I may have actually laughed out loud.

The best actor may have been Adrian Bouchet in this!!! Overall I'm thoroughly disappointed that these actors (except Vickers) actually allowed this film to be released..seems like an amateur school project to me.

Omg good !

Warning: Spoilers
Ha , this is really good, just watched this and quickly on here to write a review. Right all characters are solid good performances , story is soooo good , filming really good , soundtrack good. It's great when you find a good horror as god it's few and far in between , I've reviewed loads of horror as its my fave genre and this was such a great uk film. I will write a bit of the story here so don't read if your gonna watch , it's solid horror film. Right , guy tricks man into his house by causing a carcrash and taking him unconscious into his house to fix him up, when he wakes he meets mans daughter who is home schooled and a total freak , although very fit . He wants to leave when he gets better from accident but man keeps preventing him with various excuses , as story progresses it's apparent that the saviour is in fact a psychotic man who is up to no good ... Lots and lots of twists and turns in this film , lots of plot development which so many horrors lack these days. I'm giving it a high score of eight , loved the ginger madman , love the girl who was his daughter in this , oh and make sure you watch last couple mins as I thought it was credits before final bit came on , great horror film , class.

Good Movie, Bad Editing
ferdmalenfant25 February 2019
This movie really touches you psychologically and has plenty of suspenseful moments with some gore thrown into the mix...but the editing makes it a bit difficult to understand why certain things happen, however it's all revealed in time. You will not find this movie "bland" if your taste is for horror. The ending is a real mind bender.

EXCELLENT PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER!
caniac-8829128 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I had never heard of this movie until I saw it on my Hulu list last night. I figured it would be another straight to video sleeper. Much to my surprise this was a excellent movie! The only reason I give it a nine is because I wanted to see Lauren get away and find a normal life.

Spoilers follow ...
parry_na3 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Whilst not the most cheerful of films, this is a really solid production that carefully ramps up the thrills and the gore right up until its blood-splattered finale.

Tony Curran is excellent as Morris, reclusive land-owner who lives, it seems, in isolation with his beautiful daughter Lauren (Diana Vickers). When dashing young businessman Jake (Rupert Hill) stumbles into their lives, but accident or design, things get progressively nasty. At first this nastiness relies on the performances and then desperation and an awful lot of blood take over.

At first, the acting from the younger cast may seem underwhelming – good looking familiar faces from soap-operas may rankle the snobbish sensibilities of reviewers who don't believe actors from popular dramas can cut the mustard in powerful horror pieces like this. As the characters' situations become ever bleaker, and the audience becomes less sure of their motivation, you become as fully immersed in their situation as it is possible to be. At times I, a foul old horror viewer of many years, had to turn away as a mixture of effects and performance made every indignity and moment of suffering seem acutely real. Not bad for soap actors! For lovers of twist endings, there are more than one. Each satisfies. You may not be surprised by one, but bowled over by another. Or not. All I can say is I enjoyed this a great deal, more than I thought I would. Highly recommended.
