I Hope This Is The Right One
The Eye Institute has just posted a short titled "Nat Pinkerton", with little information except for that title and the year of the release. The IMDb has almost no information: only the date of the release, and that the director and star was Pierre Bressol. Judging by the title and looking at the film, this one seems to be the Eye movie.
A gang robs a bank, killing a man. Bressol as Nat Pinkerton investigates, finds the gang, but is captured by them. They plan his hideous death. Can he turn the tables on them?
Because the haracter's name is 'Pinkerton', one naturally assumes it is based on Pinkerton's agency, well known for their detective work, strike-breaking and their trademark "Open Eye" and motto, "We Never Sleep." Given the ragtag clothing of the bandits, they appear to be European brigands.
It's an exciting little short for 1911, but clearly so deep into accepted tropes of the era as to render it silly.
