In the opening scene. Steve and Javier make reference to murdered DEA Agent Enrique S. "Kiki" Camarena Salazar ("KiKi" Camarena) and the ensuring manhunt for his killers The Guadalajara Cartel in Mexico by the DEA. This scene takes place sometime before or during 1982 just before Pablo's election to congress yet the incident and subsequent events they make reference to didn't take place until 1985. Some three years after the scene takes place.
Lara Bonilla's assassination is shown quite inaccurately. The assassins didn't just drive up, shot and took off. Lara's bodyguards opened fire and shot the shooter while the motorcycle driver managed to get away. The back window of Lara's Mercedes was shot out in the assassination while in the dramatization it was left intact.
When Escobar is briefing Poison into his next job at around 15 minutes into the episode, a thug is seen loading a rifle that could be a M4/M16 carbine. That is odd, because the scene is set in the 80's/90's, while the picatinny rail (part of the gun where the accessories are attached) is of a more modern type, yet not present at the time.
When the assassins kill the Minister of Justice, they are driving down the road, kill the minister and then drive away. The car does not stop right away, but continues down the road a distance. At the crime scene, they show the car with bullet holes in it and 2 or 3 shell casings on the ground near the car. These casings would have been left back up the road, where the shooting actually took place.
Murphy, as the narrator, refers to the Liberation Church. This is wrong for two reasons: first, what the character is talking about is not another church, but the base communities of the Liberation Theology, a left-wing approach within the Catholic Church in the 60's and early 70's that did get socialist sympathies. However, by the time the series is set, Liberation Theology no longer existed, having been banned by Pope John Paul II, and although some base communities were kept open, priests in charge were defrocked or even excommunicated at this point.
