Lightyear Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to coming-of-age drama “Edge of Everything” from Visit Films. The film stars Sierra McCormick, previously seen in Slamdance award winner “The Vast of Night.”
The film is from writer-director duo Sophia Sabella and Pablo Feldman, who are making their feature-length narrative debut. McCormick plays a teen going through the seemingly unbearable trials and tribulations of growing up.
The drama will have its U.S. premiere on Feb. 8 at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and a limited theatrical release will follow in the spring, after which the film will be released on digital platforms and in the home entertainment market.
Abby, on the cusp of turning 15 and at a delicate moment in life, is forced to move in with her father and his younger girlfriend (Sabina Friedman-Seitz). It seems like there are so few good news stories out there at this particular point in time, and for obvious reasons. But if you look hard enough, there are people out there trying to make the world a little brighter in any way that they know how. My dear friend, mentor, and collaborator, writer/director/producer Adam Egypt Mortimer is one of them. Adam has helped me in supportive, immensely meaningful ways when no one else would or could (in my career as Izzy Lee), and I’ll always be grateful for that. A few years back, we spoke about his frustration at the lack of support women filmmakers face within the industry, something I feel acutely. ...

Although we've only seen two episodes so far, FX's American Horror Stories has already given us a new iconic character in the premiere: Sierra McCormick's Scarlett, aka the Rubber Woman. The prickly Scarlett becomes one of Murder House's latest victims after her dads (Matt Bomer and Gavin Creel) buy it to flip it into an upscale haunted-house experience. After a few nights in her new home, Scarlett's dark side intensifies when she puts on Tate Langdon's old gimp suit, and she spares no one who scorns her, especially not the mean girls at school. McCormick delivers a tour-de-force performance that explores every creepy and complicated aspect of Scarlett's character. So who is McCormick, and where might you have seen her before? Here's what to know about the 23-year-old actress's impressive résumé!

Over the last few years, it’s been fun to watch filmmaker Adam Egypt Mortimer’s career evolve from films like Some Kind of Hate to Daniel Isn’t Real to his contribution in the anthology film Holidays. And now his latest, Archenemy, has Mortimer traversing new cinematic terrain with his story of an interdimensional superhero named Max Fist (played by Joe Manganiello) who finds himself down on his luck here on planet Earth, and must confront his past so that he can put an end to the reign of tyranny that his sworn enemy, Cleo (Amy Seimetz), is prepared to unleash on our planet.
Archenemy also stars Skylan Brooks, Zolee Griggs, Glenn Howerton, and Paul Scheer and will be released in theaters, on digital, and on demand today, courtesy of Rlje Films.

Superhero movies have become so pervasive since the turn of the millennium that they’ve spurred a whole subgenre of films subverting their formulas — primarily low-budget efforts like “Special,” “Super” and “Defendor,” but also major-studio projects “Joker” and “Hancock.” All share an interest in peeling back the mask, exploring the antisocial, delusional-fantasy side of superpowers.
Adam Egypt Mortimer’s third feature “Archenemy” occupies similar terrain, resourcefully using modest means to create a gritty yet stylized comic-book world in which a supposed fallen superhero may really just be some homeless guy with mental issues. However, that colorful surface is more successfully drawn than the characters and complications meant to fill it, leaving this noirish, (mostly) live-action cartoon feeling less like a dissection of superhero origin stories than an underdeveloped prologue to one.
It has its own prologue, marking the first of several sharp animated sequences credited to Sunando, Kevin Finnegan and Danny Perez.

“Daniel Isn’t Real” writer-director Adam Egypt Mortimer made his feature debut a few years ago with “Some Kind of Hate.” In that horror fantasy, a teenage misfit gets her revenge on some bullies because, as her therapist tells her, she “must destroy the impulses that got you here.” Mortimer takes that advice in his second film by destroying the impulses that made his first film a lifeless corpse. By trading a splatterfest premise for a metaphysical head trip, and by trading skin-slashing for head-scratching, the director has opened up his world to so many more ideas.

Daniel Isn't Real is Adam Egypt Mortimer's second feature film. His debut in 2015 was the bloody and gory horror/revenge film Some Kind Of Hate (review) which although it received mixed reviews, showed great promise. This time he's brought us a well-made thriller which opens with fantasy elements that descends into full-blown horror in the final half hour.
The startling violent opening to the film shows 6-year-old Luke witnessing a crime scene in his neighbourhood; the aftermath of a mass shooting in a cafe. Here, while staring at the carnage, he meets another young boy, Daniel. The two of them begin talking and wander off together. When Luke's distraught mother finds him i...

I’ve got got a trailer here for an upcoming psychological horror thriller coming out called Daniel Isn't Real. The film follows a young college freshman named Luke who ends up resurrecting his childhood imaginary friend Daniel to help him cope with some serious issues that he’s been having. Turns out, his imaginary friend is a pretty twisted and demented dude and ends up causing more harm than good.
The film comes from writer and director Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate), and it’s an adaption of Brian DeLeeuw's novel of the same name. It stars Miles Robbins as Luke and Patrick Schwarzenegger as Daniel. This looks like it’s going to be a wild and trippy thriller! One quote in the trailer describes it as being "mind-bendingly freaky".
It looks good to me and I’ll give it a go! Here’s the synopsis:

"Daniel is simply an aspect of your mind." Samuel Goldwyn Films & Shudder have unveiled a full official trailer for Daniel Isn't Real, a horror-thriller which has been playing on the festival circuit all year after originally premiering at SXSW. From writer / director Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate), and adapted from Brian DeLeeuw's novel, the film is about a college freshmen named Luke who resurrects his childhood imaginary friend Daniel to help him cope. But he ends up in even more trouble. Miles Robbins stars as Luke, with Patrick Schwarzenegger playing his friend Daniel, plus Sasha Lane, Hannah Marks, and Mary Stuart Masterson. This looks super trippy and totally wild, definitely "mind-bendingly freaky" as the quote says. Reviews so far are good; it's an intense trailer that should put this on your radar. For his second feature film, director Adam Egypt Mortimer takes viewers on a psychologically driven descent into hell in Daniel Isn’t Real (you can read my review Here), which is based on Brian DeLeeuw’s novel In This Way I Was Saved. The story follows an unassuming college kid Luke (Miles Robbins), who finds himself reconnected with his childhood imaginary friend named Daniel (Patrick Schwarzenegger), who helps him find confidence as Luke navigates his way in the world. But the more brazen Luke is feeling, the more Daniel’s true colors are revealed, leading to an epic showdown between the duo in an epic battle for Luke’s very soul.

Now that we’re onto Day 143 of SXSW 2019, here’s a look at three more movies I had the chance to check out this year during the festival, including Daniel Isn’t Real from Adam Egypt Mortimer, the religious drama Them That Follow (which I had sadly missed at Sundance in January), and the criminally fun romp Villains by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen.

It’s great to see Fangoria back in action and producing horror movies! I really enjoyed their last film Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich. It really captured the greatness of those old-school B-horror films.
Their next movie is a horror comedy called Satanic Panic, which is said to include “a healthy dash of imaginative gore.” Rebecca Romijn (Star Trek: Discovery, X-Men) is set to star in the Chelsea Stardust-directed film.
The plot follows a pizza delivery girl (Hayley Griffith) at the end of her financial rope who has to fight for her life — and her tips — when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists (led by Romijn) in need of a virgin sacrifice.
Sounds like it will be a silly fun horror film! Romijn and Griffith will be joined by Ruby Modine (Happy Death Day), Arden Myrin (Insatiable), Jerry O’Connell (Carter), Aj Bowen...

When you deliver pizzas, you could encounter anyone on the other side of the front door, including murderous satanic cult members. Such is the case for a pizza delivery woman in Fangoria's new movie Satanic Panic, which now has a full cast, including Rebecca Romijn in the lead role.
Deadline reports the news of Romijn's casting, revealing that she will co-star as a Satanist leader opposite Hayley Griffith, who will play a pizza delivery worker, who, "at the end of her financial rope who has to fight for her life—and her tips—when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists (led by Romijn) in need of a virgin sacrifice."

Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sasha Lane, Miles Robbins, and Hannah Marks are set to star in the supernatural thriller “Daniel Isn’t Real.”
Elijah Wood’s SpectreVision and Ace Pictures announced the cast Tuesday and said principal photography has begun in New York City. The film is the second feature from writer/director Adam Egypt Mortimer following 2015’s “Some Kind of Hate.”
Robbins portrays a troubled college freshman who suffers a violent family trauma and resurrects his childhood imaginary friend Daniel (played by Schwarzenegger) to help him cope. Charismatic and full of manic energy, Daniel helps him achieve his dreams, before pushing him to the very edge of sanity and into a desperate struggle for control of his mind and soul.
The film is based on the novel In “This Way I Was Saved” by Brian DeLeeuw, who co-wrote the script with Mortimer.

Of all the characters on 13 Reasons Why, few are as quietly terrifying as popular jock Bryce Walker. Season one of the drama follows high school student Clay (Dylan Minnette) after he receives a box of tapes from classmate Hannah Baker, who killed herself a few weeks earlier. On the tapes are the 13 reasons why she decided to commit suicide, and Bryce is a huge part of why she did what she did. Season two, which premieres this month, really digs into the repercussions (or lack thereof) Bryce endures for his actions. If you couldn't help but feel you'd seen the actor before while watching, you're definitely not alone.
Signing on to play a character as despicable as Bryce can't have been a decision made lightly, but Justin Prentice - who was bullied himself as a kid - has had plenty of experience under his belt thus far in his career.

In 2015 it was announced that Frightfest were set to bring us, under a “Frightfest Presents” banner, some of the horrific delights of their Glasgow and London festivals on DVD and VOD thanks to a partnership with Icon Film Distribution. And whilst that partnership did garner a number of releases – including the likes of Some Kind of Hate, Emelie, Night of the Living Deb and The Sand – the label went dark soon after, with not only the two-year deal coming to an end, but also likely due to the fact that Frightfest partner Icon had some financial woes in 2017, eventually been sold to Kaleidoscope in March of this year.
Skip forward to today and news reaches us that the Frightfest Presents label is reborn, this time in co-operation with Signature Entertainment – a label who we have supported since the early days of their direct to DVD B-movie start-up, with titles such as SnowBeast,...

Like most pre-teens and teenagers who grew up with spending their weekend nights at the video store picking out what films you were going to watch over the weekend, I watched a lot of Full Moon films. While there were plenty of franchises out of the Full Moon universe, the one that stuck with me was the Puppet Master franchise. I think Puppet Master III is the best entry with the latest entries severely lacking in progressing and getting to the point of saying “who cares”.
Last year, at Fantastic Fest, I saw the closing night film, Bone Tomahawk starring Kurt Russell and was blown away by it. I would later find out the man who wrote and directed the film wrote a independent film called Asylum Blackout. That man is S. Craig Zahler. This past weekend was Texas Frightmare Weekend in Dallas, TX and some interesting news came out...

I would be lying if I said Box of Dread’s Shaun Of The Dead/Army Of Darkness mashup theme didn’t excite the hell out of me. I mean, come on, these are two pretty iconic and beloved flicks. Well, this month’s Box of Dread definitely did not disappoint in terms of cool collectibles and swag!
First item out of the box was Vinyl Sugar’s Shaun (Shaun Of The Dead) Dorbz figure. It’s a really nice vinyl figure complete with details like Shaun’s nametag, his trusty cricket bat, and even the tiny red [blood] stain on his shirt. And bonus, the box wasn’t damaged!
Next, we have some Starship Troopers trading cards. Talk about some “unlikely heroes”! Circa 1997, these bad boys features images from Paul Verhoeven’s action-packed Sci-Fi, as well as storyboard sketches and facts about the scenes. These cards are practically oozing nostalgia.

Some of the biggest days on the calendar are viewed through a dark lens in the new horror anthology Holidays. Featuring a plethora of intriguing characters, one of the film’s standouts is Andrew Bowen’s performance as Reggie: an unconventional serial killer looking for his next victim on New Year’s Eve. Following Holidays’ world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival (and VOD debut) and ahead of its April 22nd theatrical release, we caught up with Bowen for our latest Q&A feature.
Andrew, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, and congratulations on your excellent work in Holidays. What attracted you to this film and the role of Reggie in the “New Year’s Eve” segment?

Another Sunday and another installment of VOD Vault, taking a look at some of this weeks on-demand releases that have hit various VOD platforms here in the UK. This week we have a very seasonal edition, featuring two films that take a horrific look at the holidays…
Krampus
Stars: Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania Lavie Owen, Krista Stadler | Directed by Michael Dougherty
Krampus has seemingly become the de jour villain in the horror genre recently. We’ve already had two movies featuring the evil anti-Santa, Krampus: The Christmas Devil and Krampus: The Reckoning; and now comes a third. Although unlike its seasonal brethren, this Krampus at least made it into cinemas – and so it should have. This is the latest film from director Michael Dougherty, who exploded onto the UK horror scene a few years back when his Halloween anthology Trick ‘r’ Treat was screened at Frightfest.

For centuries, annual holidays have been widely celebrated as a time to put aside one’s worries and responsibilities in order to come together with loved ones and enjoy each other’s company. Holidays are magical, not only because they represent a time of love and harmony, but also because many of them are commemorated on a global scale, making them not only a positive junction, but a universal one that can be shared by nearly all of humankind.
Although we can all look back on our happy moments as a collective people, we can also all relate to the sense of dread that often goes hand-in-hand with an approaching festivity. Holidays like Valentine’s Day can be ridiculously expensive, Christmastime can mean grueling hosting duties for many, as well as fights with family. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day can bring emotional baggage with it if a person has a lost parent,...

Growing up, I was a sucker for gimmicks. Blame my Mom. Every time a new M&M flavor (did you know they make Coconut and Cherry?) or Oreo remix hit the shelves, our house was the first on the block to sample it. I like to think it’s this upbringing that now influences my taste in horror films, like my adoration of holiday themes (Krampus! Gremlins!) and anthology collections. Or how about an entire horror anthology themed around major holidays, aptly titled – you guessed it – Holidays! It was going to take an act of Satan to keep me away from this one…
Let me start by confirming that yes, Holidays works. It’s an admitted mixed-bag of highs and lows (more highs), but that’s to be expected with eight *very* different segments. Some will love Kevin Smith’s Halloween whorishness, while others will start with their typical anti-Smith...

There’s a fun looking horror anthology film coming out soon called Holidays. The movie is described as a “uniquely dark” film that puts an “original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time. The film challenges our folklore, traditions and assumptions, making Holidays a celebration of the horror on those same special days’ year after year.”
There’s a lot of great talent that came together to create this movie. The directors involved with the project are Kevin Smith (Tusk), Gary Shore (Dracula Untold), Scott Stewart (Dark Skies), Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes), Sarah Adina Smith (The Midnight Swim), Nicholas McCarthy (The Pact), Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate), and Anthony Scott Burns (Darknet).

Holidays is a horror anthology from ten directors. The film takes a bloody swipe at those special days, that come by once a year, including: Valentine's Day, Labour Day and Mother's Day. Some of the standout directors from the series are Kevin Smith of Clerks (1994) and Tusk (2014) fame, Nicholas McCarthy (The Pact) and Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate). The film's first trailer offers a brief glimpse at each of the stories. The film bills itself as somewhat counter-culture in nature. Each story will challenge the viewer's perspective on folklore, culture, traditions and their perspectives on these special, or stressful, times of the year. The film is set to have its World Premiere in Tribeca. After April 14th, the film will be available through video-on-demand platforms, on the following day. Fans of Southbound, Tales of Halloween or other horror anthologies are encouraged to take a look below. Release Date: April 15th,...
