The film is inspired by codes of honor within Asian gangs so props and themes were used, including small Samurai amour replica models, a Wu Tang Clan album cover & characters eating from noodle boxes.
All character names are lifted from the Steven Spielberg film Empire of the Sun. Even the Government Assassin was called Frank Demarest in the script and original dialogue.
The original dialogue for the Priest scene between Mark Scullion and Sam Conway-Folds was discarded and they improvised new dialogue. Mark added the Jobs newspaper himself and the additional scene ending humor, despite the director's initial concerns.
Mitchell Cartwright's character was originally called Frank Demarest and spoke to his victims before killing them, however, during the editing his dialogue was removed to make his character a darker and mysterious assassin, and simply named Government Assassin in the credits.
