Gangster sagas have always found favour within South Korean cinema, with the industry giving us several classics in the sub-genre over the years. Almost every major male superstar from the country, and even some females ones, have played gangsters in celluloid, often to resounding box-office and critical success. In the case of Song Kang-ho, one of the most well-known faces from the country, he has played mobster three times so far. Though 1997’s “No. 3”, where he played an oddball hitman, was the feature that he earned a name for himself with and 2011’s “Hindsight” was a lukewarm production which saw his mob boss within a female assassin’s crosshairs and heart, it was Han Jae-rim’s second feature, “The Show Must Go On”, which saw most success, earning itself the Best Film award and Song a Best Actor award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards.

Former Scrubs star Sarah Chalke has reunited with Scrubs creator/executive producer Bill Lawrence for a dramedy series, which has been set at ABC for development.
Chalke will star and co-executive produce the untitled project, written by Emily Fox (Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce), which hails from Lawrence’s Doozer Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television where the company is based.
Inspired by Chalke’s life, the family dramedy is about two very different sisters who take over the adoption agency that their parents, a lawyer and a social worker, have run out of their home for the last 30 years.
Fox executive produces with Doozer’s Lawrence and Jeff Ingold. Doozer’s Liza Katzer is producing.

A new fall TV season has finally arrived, and it’s got us feeling a bit nostalgic for long-gone series that never made it to Season 2 (or beyond). Don’t get us wrong: We’re still hooked on long-running series like Grey’s Anatomy and The Big Bang Theory, and there are plenty of sophomore-year standouts that we’re happy to have back on our screens.
But we’d be lying if we said we didn’t miss Pitch, or The Mayor, or Almost Human, or any of the dozens of quality series that were prematurely axed by the networks that aired them.

NetflixHannah walks an unnerving tightrope of mixing intensely personal and traumatic experiences with brave insight.Sowmya RajendranScreenshot/NetflixHannah Gadsby's Netflix special Nanette is the kind of stand-up comedy that is rare to come by, with humour gleaming like a diamond and cutting just as hard. It's also a show where the comedian tells you that she wants to quit comedy. And she isn't joking. Hannah goes on to establish just why, walking this unnerving tightrope of mixing intensely personal and traumatic experiences with a brave insight that makes us laugh and think all at the same time. The stand-up comedian from Tasmania begins the routine speaking about her identity as a lesbian woman – coming out at a time and place where homophobia was in her face. She speaks of how the world around her reacted – with delightful narrations about her mother comparing her identity to that of a murderer's, her unwillingness to come out to her grandmother who wishes her a Mr Right just around the corner, she not being "lesbian enough” or "enthusiastic" enough about being lesbian. But these jokes, which set up the routine and make the audience feel settled, go beyond the usual personal comedy that stand-up artistes use. Hannah picks up from where she let off later in the show, making us sit up and take notice of why she's rethinking doing comedy. Her body language, light and easy, changes as the show progresses; her stance becomes more assertive, her face radiates pain. She even nearly cries on the show. But never for a moment does she go out of control, always bringing the audience back with a casually delivered line that offers comic relief. Her deconstruction of the gendered world around us – which begins with asking why we put pink headbands on bald babies, and an argument for why blue should really be a feminine colour – takes plenty of potshots at the straight, white man. And why not? For it is the straight, white man who has been deciding what the standard should be for everything, including stand-up. Hannah notes that she's done with self-deprecating humour because when a person from a marginalised community laughs at herself, it is not humility but humiliation, and she doesn't want to be part of that any more. Instead, Hannah uses her life experiences, including her degree in art history, and mental health issues, to punch upwards. I was reminded of Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own as I was laughing my head off at Hannah's take down of legendary artists and how they've painted women over the ages. In A Room of One's Own, Virginia Woolf, analyses how male writers have written women characters in a tone so deliciously funny and incisive, I was a changed person by the end of the book. I was only seventeen at the time but it had such a dramatic influence on the way I approached literature. Hannah's descriptions of the paintings we've been taught to revere gave me the same sense of sudden insight – why did I not think of this myself? Now that she says it, how absurd that I've thought these representations of women are great, when they are so unlike any woman I know? Is it art only because a white man painted it and other white men told us it was? Nanette is a textbook for those who want to write comedy, and Hannah is a bloody good teacher. She not only breaks down her own jokes, she also points out the problems with the joke as a medium. What should the role of the stand-up comedian be in a world where men like Trump are elected to power? Where sexual harassers like Woody Allen, Harvey Weinstein, Roman Polanski or Picasso are protected by their genius, while nobody gives a fig about their victims? On whom should the jokes be? Some may feel Nanette isn't funny enough, that Hannah speechifies too much and doesn't deliver on the promise of humour. That as the show draws to a close, it resembles spoken word poetry more than a stand-up special. But this is a comedian who takes her job so seriously that she's invested in questioning the fundamentals of it, reinventing the platform that it offers her. Her punchline 'Hindsight is a gift, stop wasting my time' is something I will keep revisiting, like a good joke that never grows old. Thank you, Hannah, for putting yourself under the spotlight, so the rest of us can find a way out from the darkness. Also read: Karthik Kumar's 'Blood Chutney: Comedy it may be, feminist it is not...

Exclusive: The King’s Speech and Wolf Hall financier Hindsight Media (previously known as Prescience) has splashed on rights to sci-fi movie spec Anima, I can reveal. The mid-six-figure deal is the UK outfit’s biggest single development acquisition to date. While plot details are being kept under wraps I understand the thriller follows a prisoner who is sentenced to solitary confinement on a remote asteroid.
Swedish directing duo Fredrik Akerstrom and Markus Kryler (pictured), known for directing hit video game Battlefield 1 are attached to direct the script from Steve Isles (The Possession Of David O’Reilly). Project is being pitched as in the vein of Moon and Ex Machina.
Hindsight Media CEO James Swarbrick (The Last Days On Mars) will produce alongside Water & Power Production’s Tom Miller (Aaaaaaaah!) as well as Jon Kanak (Slumber), who reps both the writer and the directors. The team is eying a fall production start.

Not long after acquiring the release rights to the buzzed-about Tragedy Girls, the studio Gunpowder & Sky is now taking a big step forward with their film adaptation of Jeff Hart's romantic zombie comedy action road trip (sounds fun, doesn't it?) novel, Eat, Brains, Love.
Deadline reports that Gunpowder & Sky has lined up Rodman Flender to direct the film adaptation of Eat, Brains, Love from a screenplay that will be written by Mike Herro and David Strauss.
Originally published in 2013, Eat, Brains, Love follows two high schoolers who are infected with a zombie virus, eat a good portion of their friends, and end up fleeing from the government and their teen psychic who is sent to capture them.

Netflix’s new comedy Dear White People (arriving Friday, April 28) is like a promising college student who tails off midway through the semester: lots of potential at the beginning, followed by a disappointing lack of focus.

Seven shows a week, Bette Midler will play Dolly Gallagher Levi in the highly anticipated Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly! at the Shubert Theatre starting March 15. (The show opens on April 20.)
On June 13, an eighth show on Tuesdays will be added, with Tony Award winner Donna Murphy stepping into the role originated by Carol Channing on Broadway in 1964, made famous onscreen by Barbra Streisand in 1969 and revived by Midler in 2017.
“I’ve never really done anything quite like this,” Murphy tells Et.
To clarify, she’s not serving as Midler’s understudy. “I am not someone who will go if [Midler] is not feeling well in an emergency situation,” she says. Instead, she is Midler’s Tuesday-night alternate, performing alongside the production’s other stars, David Hyde Pierce, Kate Baldwin and Gavin Creel. In addition to Tuesdays, the Broadway veteran will also step in during Midler’s scheduled vacation.

Hitting the "big 3-0" can be a big deal -- it's a chance to celebrate the end of your 20s, and also the age where you have to admit that you're finally an honest-to-goodness grown-up. Thankfully, there are some great TV shows to get you through the transition and give you some previews of the chaos and joy ahead.
1. 'Parenthood' (2010 - 2015)
"Parenthood" provides one of the more realistic TV portrayals of what it means to become an adult in your own family. An updated version of the classic 1980s movie of the same name, "Parenthood" is the story of the Bravermans -- four adult siblings, their spouses, their six kids, and their aging parents -- and how they all manage to support each other through various crises. Each character grows into new phases of adulthood over the course of six seasons, and the ensuing joy and heartache creates a compelling emotional journey for viewers.

In March, VH1 renewed their low-rated comedy Hindsight for a second season. Now, the cable channel is reversing their decision and have cancelled the show instead. The move is likely due to a change in management at VH1.
“Scripted series have been a successful part of VH1’s primetime line-up since 2010 and will continue to be in the future,” VH1 said in a statement to Deadline. “We love Hindsight and couldn’t be more proud of the series. But in this overcrowded and rapidly changing climate, we need to carve out VH1’s distinct place in the scripted marketplace and deliver the biggest audiences possible for our series. As a result, we’re no longer moving forward with a second season of the show. We’re so appreciative of show creator Emily Fox, the cast, and the creative and production teams and look forward to working with them again.”...

VH1 has apparently gone back in time and decided to cancel Hindsight. Although the network had renewed the freshman time-traveling series back in March, EW.com is now reporting that the series will unfortunately no longer have a second season. “Scripted series have been a successful part of VH1’s primetime line-up since 2010 and will continue to be in the future,” VH1 explained in a statement. “We love Hindsight and couldn’t be more proud of the series. VH1 has canceled its scripted time-travel dramedy Hindsight, despite having renewed the show for a second season back in March. The series, about a woman (Laura Ramsey) who gets transported back to 1995 on the eve of her second wedding for a life do-over, debuted back in January to rave reviews; Vulture's own Margaret Lyons praised the show's "perfect vision" in her review. In a statement, the network explained, "We love Hindsight and couldn’t be more proud of the series. But in this overcrowded and rapidly changing climate, we need to carve out VH1’s distinct place in the scripted marketplace and deliver the biggest audiences possible for our series." Maybe VH1 doesn't love the '90s as much as we all thought.
