- Mathieu disappeared ten years ago. Every year, he calls on Mother's Day. But his mother cannot stand it anymore. Believing she sees her son in the street, she has a heart attack. Mathieu's sister, Caroline, decides to look for her brother.
- A well-to-do family's only son, Mathieu Delmas, has been missing for ten years. Each year, he calls his mother, Olivia, on her birthday, promising to return one day. On her most recent birthday, his mother believes she sees him right outside during one such call, and chases him down the street, only to collapse with a heart attack. Her daughter, Caroline, is immediately summoned to return home to tend to her mother. Caroline flies home and immediately visits her mother in the hospital where her mother implores her to find Mathieu ASAP, as she has only 6-12 months to live. Caroline sets to work, enlisting the help of the local police department's soon-to retire Commandant Brodsky -- who initially refuses to assist. Undeterred, Caroline begins digging up old photos, and interviewing Mathieu's ex-landlord, roommates, and girlfriends. Not until Brodsky's much younger and more empathetic assistant, Clara, guilts him into investigating the 10-year missing Mathieu, and the 1-day missing Lisa, does Brodsky jump into the mystery with both feet. Meanwhile, the recuperating Olivia is being courted by her late husband's financial advisor, Stanislaus. Twists and turns, romance and mystery ensue.
