My overall rating of "Veep"'s Season 3: 5/10
This is the episode that really contributed to sinking this season's score for me - it is awful. I think the format works very poorly to start off with: I've skimmed through my fair share of US presidential debates, had a lot of laughs at /r/PresidentialRaceMemes (even though it's progressively become a subreddit of Sanders fanatics), immensely enjoyed SNL's biting debates satire etc, but this episode just didn't do it for me. I think at least some of it is that inventing gaffes is just boring humour: gaffes are the more fun the more bizarre and unexpected they are, and in this episode you just expect all sorts of things to go wrong, and they do, so comedic value is lost. Additionally, appearance-related humour is boring and unpleasant; Catherine is likewise; people blurting secrets out is run-of-the-mill sitcom level (although a recurring problem in the series); and Wendy's plotline makes next to no sense.
