The first patented portable computer was called "The Small One." The fictional name of the portable computer developed in the show is called "Giant."
The "Cardiff Giant" was a famous hoax from the late 1860's in which a business man named George Hull hired men to create what was ostensibly a petrified corpse out of gypsum. After burying the "corpse" he then paid some New York laborers to dig a well, at which point they "found" the body. Hull then used the publicity to turn a profit by charging admission to see the "body". Hull would later admit in the press that it was all a hoax. The giant was sold in 1947 to the Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown, NY and as of May, 2018 is still on display there.
