Inspector Falke - In at the Deep End
Tweekums28 September 2018
As this episode opens one team of police officers is preparing to launch a raid in a container port; nearby a second team move in to arrest a suspected smuggler. This team finds him dead moments before the property explodes killing two officers and seriously injuring a third; the first group then opens a container revealing many Congolese migrants. Falke is due to take command of the group taking part in the operation and it quickly emerges that he was previously involved with the dead police woman. There are no obvious suspects at first; the murdered man wasn't part of a large organisation and the only man with an obvious motive has an alibi. As Falke, Lorenz and the rest of the team investigate they find links to insurgents in Africa and discover that there is also somebody who is consistently one set ahead of them.

This was another impressive episode; it gets off to an exciting start and the regular use of obvious drone shots creates the impression that somebody powerful is watching and guiding events. The investigation moves at a good pace and there some good tense moments; especially during the opening and closing scenes. The early death of the police woman leads to some revelations about Falke's past and to some character development. The ending may be a little cliché but it is still effective. Overall another solid episode.
