A Little Girl Sings About a Little Man
When the talkies were new, the musical shorts were offered as acts presented in a hotel night club, often with a potted plant. Radio was then viewed as a major competitor to the movies and even more so to the talkies. Within a few years, however, radio and the movies combined: the movies could show you the people you heard on the radio and the radio could offer you the stars in your home. So by the time this short was produced, it was common for musical shorts to be set up like radio broadcasts -- in this case, with commentary by a couple of men sitting on the broadcasting aerial looking down into the studio.
Of the three songs offered here, the most interesting is Mary Little singing "Little Man, You've Had a Busy Day". She was eleven when this short was made and had recently been discovered and promoted by Rudy Vallee. Her career as a performer would diminish and her last recorded appearance was in 1958.
