On December 1, James Cameron's "Titanic" will be reissued to 87 AMC theaters across America to commemorate the film's twentieth anniversary. The movie has been enhanced by being remastered in the Dolby Vision process. Cameron issued a statement saying “This is beyond 3D, beyond 70mm, it’s beyond anything you’ve seen before. The image leaps off the screen as bright and vibrant as life itself. This is the way all movies should be seen and without a doubt, ‘Titanic’ has Never looked better.” For more click here.

President Donald Trump made two visits to the flood-ravaged regions in Texas on Tuesday, during which he attempted to uplift spirits with an ill-timed joke.
“Probably there’s never been anything so expensive in our country’s history,” the commander-in-chief said about recovery and rebuilding efforts in the future during a briefing at an emergency operations center in Austin.
“There’s never been anything so historic in terms of damage and in terms of ferocity as what we’ve witnessed with Harvey. Sounds like such an innocent name, Ben, right, but it’s not innocent,” Trump said to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson,...

According to reports, actress Blake Lively ("Gossip Girl", will star in the spy thriller "The Rhythm Section", for 'James Bond' producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of Eon Productions, based on author Mark Burnell’s four novel, espionage series:

In a few minutes, President Donald Trump will release a new set of tweets, flooding social-media accounts with his unique brand of digital smelling salts—words that will jolt his supporters and provoke his adversaries.
Nearly a dozen senior aides stand in the Oval Office, crowding behind couches or near door-length windows. This is the way he likes to work, more often than not: in a crowd. He sits behind his desk finishing the tasks of the day, which have included watching new Senate testimony about Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election,...

UntitledIt’s not common that you find yourself having a moment of sudden comprehension and even illumination, almost like finding an inner peace: a sense of quiet and tranquil meditation that allows you to qualm your more restless moments regarding the value and importance of the things that you hold dear. In this case, I’m talking about cinema, and in particular, documentary cinema, the kind of which has always been the sole focus of the Art of the Real festival since 2014, and this year’s edition (April 20th - May 2nd) with over 25 screenings that combine short and feature length non-fiction films at New York’s Film Society of Lincoln Center.Along with new films from established directors like Jem Cohen and Michael Glawogger, this year features spotlights on Chinese documentary cinema, Latin American documentary hybrids (with a particular spot for Chilean cinema), the late Brazilian master director Andrea Tonacci...

I've been a wit bit tardy on my vinly reviews as of late, being so busy with my own music project, but this album Severed (Submarine Cat Records) is so worthwhile even with the wait. Curse of Lono (no, not the Hunter S. Thompson novel) have crafted some very compelling gothic Americana on their debut full-length slab o' vinyl. Hailing from the UK they have taken up where leader Felix Bechtolsheimer formerly of Hey Negrita left off. The video above for the song "Pick Up The Pieces" is just the tip of the iceberg, as they say. A tom-tom primal Bo Diddy groove monster of a song it is, but just one of ten nuggets, five on each side, 38 minutes tight. This is the way music was meant to be heard. Get up and flip the disc over. Repeat. The Curse of Lono has descended upon my turntable and infected my whole home.

When I pulled up to Mama June Shannon’s house in Hampton, Georgia the first thing I noticed was the blinds … or what was left of them. By the looks of tattered white plastic barely hanging in the window, I assumed a cat had gone to town and ripped them to shreds. But alas, no felines inside. Just June’s three-legged dog Jelly Bean.
I flew in from New York City and arrived around 10 a.m. for our photo shoot — June’s first since dropping 300 lbs. and undergoing a drastic body transformation for We tv’s From Not to Hot.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center has today announced the fourth edition of Art of the Real, their essential showcase for boundary-pushing nonfiction film, scheduled to take place April 20 – May 2. Billed as “a survey of the most vital and innovative voices in nonfiction and hybrid filmmaking,” this year’s showcase features an eclectic, globe-spanning host of discoveries, including seven North American premieres and eight U.S. premieres.
“In our fourth year we’ve put an emphasis on placing works by first-time and emerging filmmakers alongside established names, with the aim to highlight the experimentation happening across generations, and to trace a new trajectory of documentary art that points to its promising future,” said Film Society of Lincoln Center Programmer at Large Rachael Rakes, who organized the festival with Director of Programming Dennis Lim.

In cased you missed the memo, Ej Johnson didn’t come here to play. He came here to slay. In fact, it seems the Rich Kids of Beverly Hills star couldn’t even tell you the definition of terms like “dressed-down” or “athleisure” as you’d be hard pressed to find a single moment in his life where he wasn’t totally dressed to the nines. And Thursday night was no exception as Johnson showed up on the red carpet in a very sheer, very body-hugging ensemble to celebrate Hermès first menswear runway show in Los Angeles.

Sometimes movie kismet brings together an improbable group of disparate artists who deliver magic cinema. Festival hit “Jackie,” which goes behind the scenes at the 1963 Kennedy White House, is the collaboration of three New Yorkers — a neophyte writer, veteran filmmaker/producer, and Oscar-winning actress — with a Latin-American auteur working in English for the first time, whose skill and intuition crafted a unique movie.
The Writer. Six years ago, 32-year-old former New York NBC newsman Noah Oppenheim was working in reality TV and trying to make it in Los Angeles. Nathaniel R, reporting, still at the Toronto International Film Festival where you'll notice I tend to give dual grades. This is the way to go in the mad rush of festival going. As nourishing as festivals can be from a cinephile, they aren't actually the best climate in which to generate definitive feelings because when you're done with one piece of art you have to rush on to the next one. Here are two films I saw this week that were quite combustible.

The HBO crime drama’s second episode reveals the truth will not set you free.
In the second installment of HBO’s crime drama The Night Of, “Subtle Beast”, suspected murdered Nasir “Naz” Khan (Riz Ahmed) is trapped and has nowhere to go. This episode goes past the streets and courtrooms on The Wire and Law & Order to delve deep into the dark trenches of the American prison system and what it’s like to be stuck inside it. The show paints a harrowingly realistic picture of the criminal experience through the eyes of a young brown man.
We open on the morning after the night of and Naz is still being held at the station for possession of a deadly weapon. He hasn’t been charged of any crimes yet but already he feels helpless and desperate for someone to believe that he is telling the truth. But as Stone (John Turturro) explains to him, it...

One big question remains for summer movie season 2016.
“This movie is probably going to be bad.”
“Nah, I think it looks fun.”
These are the deep philosophical discussions that occur here at Reject HQ between myself and Theo Broxson after we’ve seen the same Suicide Squad TV spot for the 11th time during Sunday Night Baseball on Espn. I’m not a big baseball person, but he certainly is. Which means that while he’s tracking Madison Bumgarner’s curveball, I’m tracking commercials and observing the marketing strategies of Hollywood’s summer offerings. All of this because there was no Game of Thrones last night.
Back to the philosophical question at hand: Is Suicide Squad going to be a fun, exciting film to close out a rather dismal summer movie season? Or will my good friend Theo’s skepticism — likely a product of the disappointment of Batman v Superman — be confirmed? With...

Barry Lyndon. It’s one of Stanley Kubrick’s greatest achievements, and yet it is has rarely been uttered in the same league as A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey, or Dr. Strangelove. However, as the years have gone by they’ve been very kind to Kubrick’s 18th-century tale. It was ranked 59th on Sight & Sound’s prestigious critics poll of the greatest movies ever made and has been hailed by Martin Scorsese, among many others, as his favorite Kubrick film. John Alcott’s cinematography also ranks as one of the landmarks of the field of photography, with its ingenious natural lighting that, in one very famous scene, lit up rooms with dozens of chandeliers. Its impact has been felt all the way to last year’s The Revenant, which also used natural lighting and was clearly inspired by Alcott’s famous lens.

Premiering on Friday, June 3rd on the Chiller channel is writer/director Mark Pavia’s Fender Bender, a cautionary slasher that explores the darker side of vehicular incidents. The film stars Makenzie Vega, Bill Sage, Cassidy Freeman, Dre Davis and Kelsey Leos Montoya, and it’s the first original production to come from the fine folks over at Scream Factory.
Fender Bender follows a teenager named Hilary (Vega), who gets into an unexpected collision with a mysterious stranger (Sage) right after getting her license. Once her parents find out that their new car has been damaged, Hilary is left home alone while they head out for a relaxing weekend, and the teen must soon contend with a masked leather-clad maniac who wants nothing more than to spill her blood and move on to his next victim.
Daily Dead recently caught up with Vega—who some horror fans may remember as the daughter of Dr.

“That’s where the story had been heading in our heads for a while,” executive producer Joel Fields tells TVLine.
In fact, there was a time when Fields and Ep Joe Weisberg thought the Russian spy’s story would reach its conclusion much earlier in the show’s run.

It's March 1977, and there's a very odd party going on at Paramount. The champagne's flowing, the glasses are clinking, but the atmosphere's far from celebratory.

Writers Alan Scott and Chris Bryant, who for the past six months had been working on a Star Trek movie script, have decided to leave the project following numerous rewrites and conflicted ideas from producers.
Susan Sackett, who was Star Trek creator Gene Rodenberry's personal assistant at the time, was one of several people at that party. "The occasion was one of celebration," Sackett wrote in the seventh issue of Starlog magazine, "yet touched with the sadness of saying 'au revoir' to old friends.

When people bring up TV shows that fans believe were unfairly cancelled before their time, Freaks and Geeks is right up there next to Firefly in those conversations. Paul Feig (Spy, Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) and producer Judd Apatow were able to bring together a phenomenal cast and capture a period in time that made things
At the TCAs promoting his new Netflix series, Love, Apatow talked about the potential for a Freaks and Geeks revival or reboot (via Variety):
“I don’t think so,” he said, talking to a small group of reporters, when asked if he’d want to revisit the “Freaks and Geeks” characters. “I think we had a beautiful poetic ending, and it’s a miracle that it worked so well. You don’t want to see what happened in the diner after ‘The Sopranos’ ended. As much as at the time it threw you, as the years passed you think,...

This is the way American Idol ends, not with a bang — and not really with a whimper, either. Fox's humbled juggernaut kicked off its 15th and final season Wednesday with an average 3.0 rating among adults 18-49 and 10.9 million viewers. And while both of those stats do mark lows for a season opener, they're both pretty much in line with last January's return. Some were likely hoping for a boost, given all the marketing pomp around the final season, but steady is not a bad scenario either. Idol made a similarly steady return last season

Marvel's Jessica Jones, the latest streaming series in the ever-expanding, world-conquering Marvel Cinematic Universe, arrived in its entirety on Netflix this morning. Starring Krysten Ritter as a fiercely independent, moderately superpowered private investigator, the show has generated considerable early buzz for its apparent willingness to explore themes no previous Marvel property was willing to touch. For one, as Vulture's Abraham Riesman discussed after seeing the pilot, there's a ton of sex. Our friend John Horn, host of the Kpcc radio show and podcast “The Frame,” interviewed Jessica Jones creator Melissa Rosenberg just before the show's release — and that topic is where their conversation began. The way sex is dealt with in the show is very candid. It's not judgmental whether people are straight or gay, how they like their sex. You are very, 'This is the way the world looks in real life, and we're going to depict it that way.

After Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel, where does Wes Anderson go next? The answer, it seems, is somewhere dark - or somewhere snowy - as he's hinted a horror or Christmas film may be on the cards.
Currently working on an as-yet unnamed stop motion film about dogs (no, really), Anderson was speaking to author Donna Tartt at the Rome Film Festival when he made the startling revelations:
"I have thought of doing a horror movie, and I have thought of doing a Christmas movie. With the kind of movies I do, you're supposed to say is this part supposed to be funny, or is this part supposed to be sad? Well, you say, I don't know. I'm not sure. This is the way we wanted it.
"When you make a horror or a thriller, you say you're supposed to be scared here. You're supposed to be relieved here.

Beloved arthouse director and kooky style maven Wes Anderson ("The Grand Budapest Hotel," "The Royal Tenenbaums") may be bringing his signature style to a quite different genre in the near future - horror.
In a conversation at the Rome Film Festival with author Donna Tartt, Anderson revealed that he soon might step out of his comfort zone with an attempt at scarier fare than he's normally associated with. He tells Filmmaker Magazine:
"I have thought of doing a horror movie, and I have thought of doing a Christmas movie. Horror is an area where if a filmmaker really wants to use all the tricks, the techniques to affect your emotions…. With the kind of movies I do, you're supposed to say is this part supposed to be funny, or is this part supposed to be sad? Well, you say, I don't know. I'm not sure. This is the way we wanted it.

Your Dream of Seeing a Wes Anderson–Directed Horror or Christmas Film May Not Be Totally Implausible
As it turns out, The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders didn't step too far from reality. During a conversation at the Rome Film Festival with author Donna Tartt (via Indiewire), noted color enthusiast Wes Anderson revealed that he has flirted with the idea of deviating from his standard comedy-drama oeuvre to pursue other genres — specifically, horror and Christmas films. He explained to the presumably bemused crowd: I have thought of doing a horror movie, and I have thought of doing a Christmas movie. Horror is an area where if a filmmaker really wants to use all the tricks, the techniques to affect your emotions … With the kind of movies I do, you’re supposed to say is this part supposed to be funny, or is this part supposed to be sad? The first full-length glimpse of Jared Leto as The Joker in David Ayer's Suicide Squad movie has come out. Now we can finally get a complete look at the Joker's new look in his first post-Dark Knight screen role, and it takes the clown prince of crime into a new direction.
Ever since the first teases of Jared Leto as The Joker emerged in the movie's first trailer and images, specuation and controvery have followed. There have been critical complains directed against Ayer's choice to have his screen Joker sporting tattoos across his arms, chest and even forehead. There was even some question about the "grill" metal covering over the Joker's teeth that Leto was wearing. Coming off of Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning turn as The Joker in 2008's The Dark Knight, many were wondering if the new Joker in Suicide Squad was taking the concept of a "hot topic" Joker too far.

A familiar (and unfair) knock against Wes Anderson's oeuvre is that you can tell the filmmaker's work from looking at a single frame. His canny eye for detail, obsessive approach to shot composition, his unique approach to drama and comedy, and his distinctly penned characters have been his calling card for better or worse (depending on who you ask). However, don't think Anderson hasn't considered changing up the game. In a conversation at the Rome Film Festival with author Donna Tartt, the director revealed he's considered making horror and Christmas films. "I have thought of doing a horror movie, and I have thought of doing a Christmas movie," Anderson said. In honor of Halloween, I once again have a special essay-article up, and this time I can name the contributor. Randall William Cook rates special celebrity status around DVD Savant despite being a friend from way, way back. I hope he's writing a book about his career, because his Hollywood experiences range far afield, from UCLA film school, to acting and directing film and TV, to doing special make-ups, animation direction, front-rank stop motion direction, and second unit direction on big features. Heavily into digital work since the 1990s, Randy supervised character animation and sequence direction for the three Lord of the Rings movies, netting him an amazing three Oscars, three years straight. And he's still the same guy from college -- a new Harryhausen or Welles disc comes out, and he wants to know all about it. Oh, and Cook is a fine writer as well -- as I think this thoughtful piece shows.

Take a peak around any gaming community these days and you’ll find complaints in abundance about the recent trend of video game remakes/ports to new consoles. I hate to break it to you, but it’s not a new trend. Let’s talk about the history of gaming remakes and why they serve a more important purpose than pissing off people.
These days, hearing about modern remakes (or remastered titles) for current generation consoles feels like a daily thing. Hell, one of the biggest announcements at this year’s E3 was a remake rather than a new title: Final Fantasy VII. While the initial response was positive, it didn’t take long for detractors to start up their battle cry, “What’s with all the remakes anymore? Can’t they make something new?”
Well, yes, of course the companies can make something new and the reality is, they...
