Most get it wrong...Fun except for missing dialogue and plot holes

Warning: Spoilers
First major complaint is that Jacque "... never gives Zoe a choice." Not so! Jacque's key conversation with Zoe occurs off screen BUT we know he is going to tell Zoe that he is an alien and also his reason for coming to Earth. Is Zoe's 'cure' permanent in which case she can choose to stay here on Earth or is it temporary? Zoe answers this when she tells her crazed parents "if my only option is cancer or life with Jacque I choose life." So we know her cure is temporary has been told by Jacque that it will be permanent only if she 'chooses' to leave with him. The dying race theme comes right out of The Last Mimzy. In that case a 'race' was saved by toy rabbit Mimzy simply collecting DNA. Here the alien race needs Zoe herself. This brings up Jacque's mention that on his planet Zoe will be a queen and she will repopulate his specie. Scary thought! Rest assured Zoe will not be a sex slave since Jacque assures her dad that on his planet Zoe will have everything she wants. Could be his scientists will harvest her eggs over many years etc Will use Zoe's eggs for next decades. When dad asks Jacque 'will you force her to leave? Writers made an awful mistake by having Jacque remain silent. He should have issued a resounding NO! The parents are off the chart and hard to watch but did note there was no indication that Jacque loved Zoe. That is for Zoe to decide which she has. Also, an alien is not expected to confess love as we do. If you fill in plot holes, make assumption and connect dots it sort of makes sense. Zoe and Jacque are in love, expressed on their terms, her cure is temporary so she must leave and she will not be a sex slave. As Zoe believes....be happy don't worry!!!

Interesting idea
gbutler771 April 2021
Throughout the movie, there are holes in the plot, questions that never get answered, important details just glossed over. I actually thought the acting was quite good for a low budget sci-fi film. The sound was just horrible, with uneven levels from scene to scene, and random very loud footsteps that seemed out of place. I found myself really wanting to know more about the astronaut, details about where he came from, what his civilization was like, but absolutely no details were given. Twice, we saw the start of conversations that might reveal these details, and the scenes just ended before we could learn anything more about the astronaut. The real question the movie asks us to think about is "What would you agree to, to save the life of your child? How far would you go?" I think it did a fair job of addressing the emotions, and torment that making a decision like this would evoke.

A metaphor upside the head...

Warning: Spoilers
C'mon, the directors and the writers are just messin' with you. What's the real difference between what happened in the movie and what would have happened had Zoe died? She's gone, nobody on Earth will ever see her again. She's gone to a better place. Does this sound familiar to you? A creative and thought-provoking comment about religion won't hurt you, will it?

Interesting movie

Interesting and rather predictable. I enjoyed it. The sound recording, though, was terrible. I had to have my remote in my hand throughout the entire movie, adjusting the volume all the way up till the scene changed and then had to reduce the blaring sound.

How did this get 8.2 out of 10?!
kewaynco9 May 2019
Was a good idea poorly executed. Horrible dialog. Poor sound recording. Sounded like everyone was clomping around half the time. The ending made no sense and brought about no satisfying conclusion.

Don't bother with this one

Warning: Spoilers
Ridiculous plot line and excruciatingly slow pace. After encountering an astronaut (following his crash landing) Zoe and her father don't bother to take him to the hospital rather just take him home like a stray puppy. Eventually his story comes out that he's not human at all rather from another planet. Our astronaut ops to cure Chloe from her leukemia with the condition that she returned home with him. She agrees and eventually disappear into the sky.

Quite Good For a Tiny Budget
Easygoer1015 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film is very good, especially considering it was made on a shoestring budget. The casting is good, although the performances have some issues; for rxampke, the actress who plays Zoe's mother is awful. However, the rest are quite good. There is a tremendous plot hole. Nowhere in the entire film does the subject come up that Zoe is helping a superior race of humans live. They were dying out and she saved them. This cannot be a part of the plot. It's a massive hole in it. Of course there is symbolism in it. Overall it's worth a watch.

MisTitled
akualezli23 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was only incidentally about Zoe or even the astronaut. The emotive energy is from the ungrateful, possessive parents. They see everything in terms of ownership. The mother accuses the father of having sold their daughter without consulting her. This all could have been better supported with just a bit of what they went through, but we know little of anyone, really. The premise that this dying woman would be made a "queen" and repopulate a dying species is beyond ludicrous -- that they have the tech to cross galaxies and cure cancer but not fix their reproduction is inane.... And this revealed right after the alien chides the father that this is not like our science fiction movies, he trots out this trope. Pretty people squinting, posing, shouting, pointlessly.

Human emotions explored with a sci-fi twist.
RhodesJameson7 July 2019
This movie was enjoyable and thoughtful. Zoe and the Astronaut is a gently-paced movie that explores human emotions with a slight sci-fi twist. Don't expect any bells and whistles of the typical sci-fi genre. Just sit back, enjoy, and let this movie reveal itself to you.

Painfully painful
jonasatmosfera30 March 2021
Corny, sugary, cloying minor film with nothing interesting going on.

May be it is a metaphor for something. May be it has a deeper meaning.

But, for me it was boring, slow and the ending was pretty obvious.

It is good for insomnia, though.

Heart based, emotional story about losing a loved one.
GeorginaIndie3 July 2019
Unusual to see such a heartwarming love drama in the Sci-Fi genre. Most of the time they are over the top with special effects, usually with accompanying strife and angst. This movie combines romance, drama, and Sci-Fi all in one movie. Great story, great photography, good acting, and a simple plot. There was a minimum of special effects, but they were absolutely not needed to make this little gem of a movie work. I only wished it had lasted longer than just 88 minutes.

Not good
cchewlett10 May 2020
This movie started out ok. Then I noticed how the characters wore the exact same clothes every day. The dads tie changed and Zoe's scarf may have changed, but it was the same outfit every day. This may have been a low budget film, but the least they could have done was give them different outfits for each day depicted. I mean, they had enough makeup to slather the aliens face!!

No one bothers to ask Zoe!
stevepat994 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First, the correct title: Zoe and the 'Guy' Who Fell to Earth since the movie does not involve an astronaut!

Two major flaws. First, the parents treat Zoe as if she was a child rather than a 19yo adult woman. Second, no one, neither the father nor the Jacques ever asks Zoe if she will trade the cure of her deadly cancer for life on another planet. Will Zoe's cancer return if she refuses to leave with Jacques? Would Jacques take Zoe by force i.e. As a slave, if she refuses? Her dad asks Jacques 'what if Zoe refuses' to which Jacques says nothing, leaving open the 'force' option. What romance? Zoe announces her love for Jacques whereas Jacques makes zero confession of love for Zoe.

Even worse, Jacques says Zoe will be a Queen who's job it is to re-populate his planet. So essentially Zoe will be a breeder! On taht far away planet will Zoe be solely with Jacques or hundreds of Jacques? Once cured and realizing Jacques's mission to find a breeder Queen and also realizing Jacques has not confessed any real love for her Zoe had every reason to refuse to leave her friends and family.

Script should have had Jacques fall head over heels with Zoe and then give Zoe the offer/choice before he cures her and/or the cure would be permanent only if she leaves Earth. Also, a word or two to Zoe convincing her she will live a wonderful life on his planet.
