- From the week of December 25th to 31st 2015, the film was shown exclusively in a 'Roadshow' version at 100 locations across North America (about half of them were 70mm film projection, the other half digital). This version played without previews and ran 187 minutes, including a 4-minute Overture and a 12-minute Intermission. The 'Multiplex' version (digital only) runs 167 minutes, and was shown from January 1, 2016 onwards. In addition to not having the Overture and Intermission, it removes approximately six minutes of footage that Quentin Tarantino felt played better in the 70mm format.
- The 70mm Roadshow release version of 'The Hateful Eight' contains after the overture exclusive Weinstein Company logos followed by a Cinerama logo before the film begins. Later in the film after Oswaldo Mobray breaks up a fight between Marquis Warren and Sandy Smithers, the Roadshow version contains additional footage involving an exchange between John Ruth and Bob over a "half-plucked chicken", further dialogue between Sandy Smithers and Chris Mannix about Marquis Warren's incineration of Wellenbeck's Prisoner of War camp, and a brief moment in which Marquis Warren notices a jelly bean on the floor as he's refilling his coffee mug. The digital theatrical release version simply fades into to the scene where John Ruth expresses concern over the group's loyalty to Daisy Domergue.
- For it's theatrical release in India, the CBFC demanded that 1 minute and 34 seconds of cuts be made to the film removing some stronger elements of violence/gore throughout, coarse language and detail/dialogue relating to a scene of forced sexual activity. The cuts made are as follows:
- All scenes which feature shooting and violence were cut down by half of what was originally shown.
- The vomiting scene was reduced especially to shots of blood being vomited onto Daisy's face.
- Reductions were also made to sight of Daisy cutting of a corpse's hand and to close-up shots of Daisy's face as she hangs from a rope in the final scene.
- The close-up shot of the Mexican's head being blown off after being shot was also completely removed.
- Further cuts were also made to the forced oral sex scene; removing all visuals of the act itself as well as toning down the visuals before the act were the nude man is seen walking through the snow.
- Sound edits were also made to this scene muting out some of Jackson's dialogue about the event; the phrases 'Black Pecker', 'Black Johnson' and 'Black Dingus' were all muted out along with some of the bad language used throughout the film, the terms 'bitch', 'whore' 'motherf**ker' and 'son of a bitch' were all muted out whenever used.
- On April 25, 2019 Netflix released a new Extended Version of The Hateful Eight with a few changes from the Roadshow Version. This version did not include the intermission, but did include several new shots and scenes. Most noticeably, it was also release in four (4) episodes as a mini-series. The total run time is 213 minutes, but the extended scenes are just 26 minutes.
