"Eisprung mit Papa" or "Ovulation with Daddy", which is also the literal translation, is an Austrian German-language short film from 2013, so this one has its tenth anniversary this year. It runs for under eight minutes and that already includes the closing credits, so it's indeed a really quick watch. Four actors may already be more than you expect for a film of this running time, but they all add their fair share. You can check out the list of names for yourself, but from what I saw, maybe with a slight exception of Spörk, they are all still doing fine with their careers a decade after this short got made. Reiter is maybe the most stunning from the bunch. The writer and director is Paul Ploberger, who has been fairly prolific with short films over the years and this one here is also not the only one that includes a great deal of nudity. No negative criticism at all because it just fits nicely story-wise. It is exactly the right amount of content for this duration I would say. The comedy is as awkward as enjoyable and the romance twist is something I did not see coming. Well done there. It also tells us that the sister at the door is not necessarily on the nosy side as you might have guessed at the beginning, but there is another reason why she is so curious about what the other two are doing inside. And the final shot there with the word we hear come out of one character's mouth even adds a little bit of politically incorrect comedy spice to it all and I really liked it. You don't get this from German films too often, but the Austrians are braver when it comes to that. Also with their full feature films. But that is another story.

So yeah, those were the best moments then and another one I would add is the moment when the (younger) male protagonist admits that he did not ejaculate. We could have guessed it by him not actually being under the shower, just saying that he is. And in a way it is also not too depressing when you know that the two people making love in this film here, in a manner that is very much on the unromantic side, especially with what they, or rather he, is/are talking about at the same time, are not actually in love. Perhaps things would have looked different then, but it makes total sense when we hear one character use those words that he imagined this differently. After the twist we know what he was referring to exactly. So yeah, this was a good little watch that deserves to be seen by more. It is not a great film by any means, but the positive recommendation from my side was never in doubt. I also liked the little animation and choice of music you hear at the very beginning and end. It really gets you in the right mood to enjoy the film. You can watch this one on Vimeo with English subtitles if you like and even I as a German native speaker am glad that those were there because Austrian accents are not always easy to understand, also because some of the words they use that are just not common in the German we speak here in Germany. Give this little movie a chance. I am positive you won't regret it. A bit of a pity Ploberger has not (yet?) had a bigger breakthrough. I see some talent there.
