- King Horik returns to Kattegat with a surprising proposition for Ragnar; Lagertha runs into a less than enthusiastic homecoming from her new husband; Athelstan becomes confidant to King Ecbert.
- King Horik returns from Wessex with only one boat and his forces severely depleted. He tells Ragnar that Athelstan was killed in battle. He convinces Ragnar that they need to make peace with Jarl Borg as they need both his boats and his warriors if they want any hope of raiding Wessex. Rollo is sent to convince Borg to come to Kattegat. Siggy continues to act as a spy for Horik, saying she does so for Rollo. Bjorn takes an interest in a servant girl, Porunn. Lagertha has returned to her home only to face the wrath of her new husband. After a drunken feast, she is severely beaten by his men. In Wessex, King Ecbert entrusts Athelstan with a great secret.—garykmcd
- In Wessex, king Ecbert confides in Athelstan, to whom he entrusts the guard of his priceless Roman art and books, that he is probably terminally sick. King Horik arrives with the surviving remnants of his men to Kattegat and demands that Rollo be sent to earl Borg to restore the alliance at least for the duration of a revenge raid on Wessex. Siggy accepts to initiates Horik's adolescent son Elendur into adult love. Rollo however overpowers Borg by surprise, slays some of his man and brings Ragnar's hated enemy home for gruesome revenge. Ragnar promises Horik to find an alternative ally before the execution. Returned earl's heir Bjorn shows kind interest in folk dances and shy orphaned maiden Porunn.—KGF Vissers
- After being defeated by King Ecbert, King Horit and his son flee to Kattegat seeking revenge. He asks Ragnar to invite Jarl Borg to team-up with them since he has ships and warriors despite of what he did to Ragnar's family. Rollo travels to Gotland to negotiate with Jarl Borg that accepts the offer. Jarl Borg comes to Kattegat and is surprised by Ragnar's attitude. Meanwhile Athelstan becomes close to King Ecbert that confides some secrets to him.
