Every broadcast network and streaming platform is focused on the same thing heading into 2024: trying to get back up and running following a year in which Hollywood’s historic dual strikes shut down production for months.
In the wake of the writers and performers strikes, streamers and networks are attempting to solidify their programming pipelines as several scripted comedies and dramas have been hampered by the work stoppage. HBO, for example, was quick to announce that the third seasons of Euphoria and The White Lotus as well as the sophomore run of The Last of Us will now arrive in 2025. Other platforms, like Amazon, have scrapped programming because delayed production is now affecting their marketing plans for 2025, when the streamer already has a heavy spend planned.

There’s plenty to dread about 2024, but thankfully, TV isn’t one of them. The strikes are over! That means many great projects can return to work.
While there are tons of intriguing TV shows yet to be announced, there’s plenty to get excited about coming next year that we already know about. From Elisabeth Moss’ twisty TV return with “The Veil” to Kate Winslet’s HBO homecoming with “The Regime,” 2024’s headliners have something for everyone. We can’t wait to check out buzzy book adaptations like “Apples Never Fall” starring Annette Bening, or “Palm Royale” starring Kristin Wiig. And of course, the most exciting big swings could point to a huge TV breakout: We’ve got high hopes for FX’s “Shōgun,” Prime Video’s “Fallout,” and many others.
A note: We also can’t wait for some returning favorites like Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” and another season of “Hacks,...

The Handmaid’s Tale is preparing to write its final chapter.
The Emmy-winning Hulu adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian tale has been renewed for a sixth season — praise be! — but the sixth run will also be the final one for the Elisabeth Moss-starrer. The news of the series ending comes one week before the fifth season’s debut (on Sept. 14), with the premiere set to pick up after the epic cliffhanger that released in June of 2021.
“It’s been a very, very, very luxurious time that I’ve had to think about what happens at the end of this story and exactly how we’d like to get there as a company,” creator, showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller tells The Hollywood Reporter in an exclusive interview about the drama’s forthcoming conclusion. “I’m very glad we’re being able to...

The very notion of Dwayne Johnson rebooting The Scorpion King reeks of creative bankruptcy, and nothing will sum up Hollywood’s reliance on established properties at the expense of any sort of originality better than the fact the upcoming movie is going to be a reboot of the spinoff from a sequel to a remake.
You might not even be aware that The Scorpion King franchise has been alive and well for over a decade on the straight-to-video market, spawning four sequels. Rise of a Warrior, Battle for Redemption, Quest for Power and Book of Souls were every bit as generic as their titles would suggest, and featured a revolving door of randomly assorted talent including Randy Couture, Dave Bautista, Ron Perlman, Billy Zane, Michael Biehn, Rutger Hauer and Lou Ferrigno.

Collaboration with San Sebastian Film Festival to foster co-productions with Latin America.
Filmmakers let fly with their pitches on Tuesday (10) at the inaugural Proyecta session organised by Ventana Sur and San Sebastian Film Festival to foster co-productions with Latin America.
Among those under the spotlight are The Jungle, a Swiss project that director Matthias Huser explained was a 1970s-set family drama that morphs via a “feverish” storytelling tone into an experimental film.
The film centres on Sheila, who returns to her childhood home where her dying father tries to convince her to continue his life’s work and protect a patch of jungle.

Set up at Eklektik, “The Veil” has already been granted development subsidies from Europe’s Media Program and Belgium’s Federation of Wallonie Bruxelles, who’s also supporting the project’s production.
“We will be at a financing stage until next summer; the plan is to start shooting in the fall in Buenos Aires, Uruguay, Italy and Belgium locations,” said Eklektik head of production Tatjana Kozar.

"When I was young, I fought to survive. But with time, everything changed..." Vertical Entertainment has debuted a trailer for an action film titled The Veil, set in a "war-torn land where tribal factions live in fear of annihilation." Cuban actor William Levy stars as a deadly warrior who is betrayed and left for dead by his own tribe. He is healed by a mysterious princess and taken in by a secret tribe, only to go back and wage war against his own people. This seems like one of those cliche "tribal battle" movies that doesn't have much to offer. The cast includes Serinda Swan, William Moseley, Nick Tarabay, Adam Gregory, and Billy Blair. I don't feel like anyone actually watches these kind of action movies anymore, but what do I know? Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Brent Ryan Green's The Veil, direct from YouTube: Set in...
