Instead of following where they knew a busload of unarmed companions had gone (and the easiest way out), Rick and Carl went the hardest way. - In abandoning the prison and anyone (including children) who might be fighting or hiding within, they hobbled in the opposite direction, all the way across the field filled with walkers.
The Governor is shown lying in the field with a bullet to the head, yet none of the dozens of walkers has fed on him.
This perfect neighborhood (full of things to improve their conditions at the prison) is so close that a badly injured Rick can hobble there. Despite all their time in the area (and all their supposed searching), no one had come across it before.
When Rick and Carl are fortifying the front door of the house that they enter, Carl ties a knot to secure the door. He says it is a "clove-hitch." A clove hitch must be tied around something cylindrical such as a pole or beam; it cannot be used in the way shown.
