Ascending Back
tomasmmc-7719814 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Finally the Edo Tensei reaches an end. All the resurrected shinobi begin to ascend to the other world. Muu tells Genma and the others to give Onoki a message: when he assures the future of the Shinobi alliance, he can tell him there. Deidara shouts from inside the black ant puppet, and when the light appears, Kankuro is scared thinking he is going to blow up. But then, Deidara starts ascending, babbling about his art. Chiyo shares her farewell with Kankuro, encharging him the puppets. She is glad to be allowed to rest in peace. The remaining shinobi also ascends, Kimimaro, Pakura, and the sealed ones too, Asuma, Hizashi, Kakuzu, and others. The jinchurikis also are sent back, so Naruto and B realize that Itachi succeeded. As they ascend, Naruto greets Yugito, Yagura, Han, Utakata, Fuu, and Roshi. Tobi watches this too and looks surprised because Kabuto failed. Dan talks to Choza, who tells the others to take out the barrier. Aware of the little time he has, Dan uses his Spirit trabsformation technique to fly to Tsunade's location, after thanking Choza for everything. At the headquarters, Ao detects all the chakras fading away, and tells that the Edo Tensei was stopped. Shikaku and the others are glad, so he orders to communicate the news. Still, he wonders who did it (Dan asked this too). And so, while giving his last words, giving the last hug to Sasuke, Itachi's soul begins to ascend. He never stops looking at Sasuke, and his real shape is seen, with his gentle face, his true eyes, resembling his father. Sasuke, saddened, sees his illuminated brother for the last time, until their next reunion in the other life. Once his brother disappears, Sasuke is left quiet, alone, in the dark cave, with Kabuto unconcious. He says "I'm..." alone, was the perfect word. Just like after the night of the tragedy. As sad aa it is, Sasuke is empty. There's a void inside him that he never could fill, and never will. What was taken away from him, cannot be returned. He could enjoy some for a short time, with Itachi, wishing it could last longer. But now everything is like after the fateful night. Dark, cold, quiet. This is what Sasuke feels.

Meanwhile, the Kages are relieved to see that the Susanoo disappeared, and that Madara's illumination implies the Edo Tensei is over. Tsunade is shocked, as she thought no one reached Kabuto's hideout, she thinks it's too soon, and wonders who did it. Onoki says it doesn't matter, but the one who did it is a hero of the Shinobi world (if someone knew). They are glad thinking that Madara will leave. But the villain strikes one last time with fire balls. Mei is not fast enough to protect them, so Tsunade jumps and takes the shot. Still, her Creation Rebirth jutsu finishes, so she returns to normal state, where she can get wounded without healing inmediatly. Madara takes the chance, but right on time, Dan's spirit saves her. Inside her subconcious, they reunite. After telling how he got there, he kindly says that she has not changed. She tells that after he died she was lost, and ran away from the memories, but she returned, and did what he couldn't, she became Hokage to keep his dream alive. He thanks her and apologizes for causing her pain with his death. Still, he tells that he will wait for her in the other world, just not rush to get there. She is his dream, and so kisses her forehead. At the end, he is glad about the Edo Tensei as he could protect her. Then, he disappears. Tsunade returns to the reality, and has her rombus restored. Madara notices she recovered her chakra. Mei, and the Raikage are stunned because Madara is still there, like he is attached to the body. He explains the risk of the jutsu, if the resurrected person knows the seal, he can release himself from the Edo Tensei contract. A limitless chakra, an immortal body, as Madara uses the seal, he reminds them to tell the caster not to be so ignorant with a forbidden jutsu. In the meantime, Sasuke remains quiet at the cave, thinking. What is a clan? And the picture of the Uchihas comes to his head. What is a shinobi? And the picture of Naruto, Sakura, Shikamaru, Kiba, Ino, and company comes to his head. What is a village? The picture of the Kages is showed. Who am I? And right then, Suigetsu and Jugo appear after breaking a wall. Sasuke is tells them that he came to stop the Edo Tensei, and points at Kabuto, who casted it. At the battlefront, Naruto, Gai, Kakashi and B continue their stand against Tobi. Naruto teases him telling to take off his mask so they can see his expression, and Kakashi simply disapproves his pupil. Tobi realizes he has no more time, and decides to take the shortcut he prepared: he brings back the pot and the container where Kinkaku and Ginkaku are trapped (including Samui and Atsui), and throws them to the Gedo Mazo statue. He hoped to have the complete form of the Juubi, but with this might be enough. First thing to comment, Tobi's shortcut was planned by Kishimoto since he created the dumb story of Kinkaku and Ginkaku. It's clear that there was no way to bring a monster like the Juubi without the Kyuubi's chakra, hence, killing Naruto. Considering he already had a part of the Hachibi (the tentacle) sealed in the Gedo Mazo, he only needed a part of the Kyuubi. Casually, such story was invented about two brothers who could survive two weeks inside the Nine tailed Fox. I don't buy it. Zero coherence. First reason of why the incomplete Juubi shouldn't have existed. About Madara, is not crazy that such villain would find a way to escape death. To release himself from the Edo Tensei can be possible for him. But, the immortal body and limitless chakra is over the edge. That's beyond reason. Kishimoto really lost his story at this point. He invented anything to keep it going as long as possible. Jugo and Suigetsu finding Sasuke was a strange coincidence. Those two characters have been pointless for a while. Suigetsu should have died in the moment the Hachibi threw a Bijuu dama in front of him. Jugo should have died after the fatal strike from the Raikage. Sasuke deserved to think what to do next alone. Itachi's departure and his time with his brother is not something to take lightly. Was a shock, emotive, the most moving and heartbreaking experience Sasuke had since his brother died. So, What was great about the episode? The Ascending. Each resurrected can finally rest in peace. Muu's last words should imply a soon death for Onoki. Dan's farewell was needed, he was brought back to something after all. The scene was nice, and touching, not as much as Jiraiya's farewell, but is able to reach the viewer. Dan's last words imply that Tsunade's death will not come soon. At this point, might be for the best.
