When I first heard saw that JayKode and Lookas put out a “Leave The World Behind” remix, I assumed it was a disingenuous attempt to capitalize on Swedish House Mafia reunion fervor. It turns out that the two artists have been working on it since 2014, however – and more importantly, it bangs.
Deborah Cox’s anthemic vocal is pitched up in JayKode and Lookas’ version, which makes for a high-energy iteration of the future bass format. A main stage-friendly buildup detonates into a mesmerizing array of pad synths, capturing an entirely different energy than that of the source material.
The song certainly has Tiësto’s blessing, as he played it during his performance at this year’s edition of Edc Las Vegas back in June. And judging by the crowd’s response, he’s not in the minority, either.

Few electronic music artists behave with the kind of professionalism that Laidback Luke does. The Dutch progressive house superstar DJ/producer has arrived has more than just enviable career highlights to show for his 20+ years in the game – he exhibits an enlightened disposition uncommon to most contemporary entertainers.
I haven’t universally praised everything that he’s turned out in the past, but when he has taken the time to respond, Laidback Luke has taken the high road and treated my criticisms as worthwhile discussion topics instead of dismissing them.
During a recent interview with him in Las Vegas during Edc Week, I couldn’t help but ask Luke to explain his commendable attitude, and what he told me sounded like the words of a monk. In addition, he discussed recent and upcoming releases as well as his Dutch contemporaries and Insomniac Events’ efforts to “reprogram their lineups.”

This is hardly the first time we’ve heard of a potential Swedish House Mafia reunion, but as more and more evidence mounts, it’s starting to look like it could become a reality.
Not long after Axwell gave us hope during an interview with Zane Lowe, we’re now seeing another hint of a potential return for the Edm supergroup, as they’ve just updated their cover photo on Facebook, changing it from the Leave the World Behind banner to their traditional logo.
Now, this could mean nothing, as the group as made intriguing uploads to their social media accounts in the past that never resulted in anything significant. That being said though, there certainly has been a lot of chatter about a reunion lately, with some people pointing to Ultra Miami as for where it will happen.
Of course, nothing has been confirmed and it’s all just speculation for now,...

Starred Up | Labor Day | Yves Saint Laurent | Gbf | The Robber | The Machine | Salvo | The Unknown Known | A Long Way Down
Starred Up (18)
(David Mackenzie, 2013, UK) Jack O'Connell, Ben Mendelsohn, Rupert Friend. 106 mins
We've seen enough prison movies to know the drill, but this is closer to A Prophet than The Great Escape – a bracing mix of brutal thriller, institutional critique and complex character drama. Conviction is key, both in the day-to-day details and the natural performances, particularly O'Connell – a young offender violent enough to be housed with the grown-ups, including his own father. It feels like things could kick off with every scene.
Labor Day (12A)
(Jason Reitman, 2013, Us) Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, Gattlin Griffith. 111 mins
The Juno director tries nuanced domestic drama – and it doesn't really suit him. Erotic tremors are a given when Brolin's escaped convict shacks up with Winslet's lonely single mum, but you'll need to park your disbelief.

When Edm supergroup Swedish House Mafia announced that they would be breaking up, fans around the world were shocked. Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello had become three of the biggest names in the industry and to hear that they would be going their separate ways was very upsetting news. Well, at least for some people.
For director Christian Larson, he saw it as a chance to continue what he started and finish the journey that he first embarked on with the band several years ago, when he followed them around for Take One: A Documentary Film About Swedish House Mafia. This time, Larson filmed the DJ trio during their last ever world tour, capturing everything from the sold out stadium shows to the tensions boiling beneath the surface between these three longtime friends.
Titled Leave The World Behind, the documentary premiered this year at SXSW and proved to be an absolute crowd pleaser.

Leave The World Behind, Christian Larson’s documentary about Edm super-act Swedish House Mafia, is a frustrating experience. Following the band on their last tour, the film hints and teases at what could be a potentially very interesting look at the breakup of the greatest DJs of the last decade (a sentiment I agree with). However, Larson never pulls back enough layers or digs down very deep, instead choosing to just gloss over the full story and only address it with superficial insights from the band’s members (Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso) that do little to fill in the blanks on what is already a puzzling situation.
When Swedish House Mafia announced that they would be breaking up, fans of the group were in shock. After achieving such monumental success and essentially becoming the modern face of mainstream Edm, we were left stupefied at why the band was going their separate ways.

DJs Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso — formerly the supergroup Swedish House Mafia — took to Twitter this morning to announce the release of the first in a series of 12 preview clips from “Leave The World Behind.” The concert documentary chronicles their final tour as a trio and is slated to premiere at SXSW March 12 at the Paramount Theatre. The premise of the 30-second clip is the resounding drops that characterize Edm music — capturing a brief yet hilarious moment shared between Axwell, Angello and a fan. After signing the fan’s T-shirt, Axwell stops the fan and asks her if she knows the song playing in the background. Unfazed that the girl looks as if she might burst into tears of joy, Axwell continues: “You know what normally happens in about three seconds?”“The drop,” she responds. Immediately following her response, Axwell shoots up out of his seat, perfectly in time with the music—the drop,...

Sundance just ended, and we are already preparing for the next big film festival, South By Southwest. Not too long ago, the festival announced a few of the films premiering this year, but now they’ve announced the main slate. The midnight selections and some inevitable late-breaking additions are still to be announced, but this should be more than enough to get you excited. Along with many World Premieres, and Sundance favorites like Richard Linklater’s Boyhood and Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2, the line up also includes an anniversary screening of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and an extended Q&A screening of The Grand Budapest Hotel with Wes Anderson. SXSW 2014 runs March 7 through 15 in Austin, Texas. Check out the line up after the jump.

Not sure if there is a Short Term 12 equivalent in this year’s Narrative Feature Comp, but on paper SXSW programmers are serving up a mean (and the usual lean group of 8 out of a whopping 1,324 film entries) for the upcoming competitiuon of eight which includes notable entries (that we’ve been tracking for a good time now) such as Zachary Wigon’s The Heart Machine, John Magary’s The Mend, Leah Meyerhoff’s I Believe in Unicorns and Lawrence Michael Levine’s Wild Canaries. Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated docs of the year, on the non-fiction side we find Margaret Brown’s The Great Invisible. Below you’ll find a breakdown of the other sections (notable world preems in We’ll Never Have Paris and Faults (see Mary Elizabeth Winstead above), some Sundance items with Texan connections and other nuggets.
