Love this show ---perfect outrageous silliness after a long day
patriciadsimpson4 November 2014
Well, it seems that nearly everyone else who reviewed is trying to be just plain too serious about this show. Hardwick is super as a quick talking host with a great laugh and sense of what's totally absurd, off the wall, and nuts! If you rad his biography, you'll understand that Chris comes from a crazy personal place and survived. He has learned the value of humor and lots of silliness. The scoring system is meant to be just as crazy. Who cares who wins?! Jumping around with the random scores just adds to the unexpected. Afterall, comedic responses are best when spontaneous without explanation needed. Explaining a joke always ruins it! The comedians are often just as 'out there', but still makes everyone laugh even if they don't 'get it'! After a long day, it's the perfect show to just let go, relax with silliness. LOVE IT!!

Great show if you understand it.
shargan11 April 2015
This show is awesome and can be super hilarious if you go in knowing what to expect. The "game show" aspect of it is completely fabricated simply to make the show have a flow. The show is a lot of riffing and on the fly jokes so it can be hit or miss depending on the guests. As for Chris Hardwick, hes not the funniest guy but if you listen to his podcast or see his other work you'll see, his guests genuinely like him and they enjoy going on his programs. The joy of the show comes from the fun it seems like everyone on the show is having and its just got a realistic feel to it. I like the show and I think the people who gave it a 1 star just didn't understand what they are going for. Try it out, but try not to be super serious about it, the show isn't trying to win an emmy here.

Great show that Viacom destroyed
hmb-5177822 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I will get this down right away. Back when this TV show was on Hulu every day I watched it - religiously.

Some folks don't like Chris Hardwick. There is something called a remote - you should use it.

Some folks seem to think this is a game show. This is a game show the same way Whose Line is it Anyway is a game show. Strangely, I doubt if I look at that show's IMDb page I will see a bunch of 'this is a terrible game show' reviews.

I am not going to question the honesty, or veracity of those reviews. Nor am I going to wonder why they badmouth a show for not being something it is not.

They have to live with themselves, I figure that is enough.

But I will say this: Viacom screwed the pooch here.

I noticed that Viacom's stock is down overall from when the show was on Hulu.

I honestly hope the CEO and the other top management who decided they weren't making enough money off this and all their other TV shows get fired by the board, given lead parachutes, and are never given any more authority than choosing which homeless camp they try tonight.

This type of 'leadership' that turns off young folks (I'm not one, but I've heard they'll actually pay a reasonable amount for a service like Hulu, but are literally NEVER going back to Cable. Ever.).

Honestly. These dodos are the very definition of childish, foolish, lame, and short-sighted.

I know Mr. Hardwick has enough to do with the other shows/commercials/podcasts/nerd empires he has. And his new wife might like to see him for those hours he would have spent here on this show. But he's a self-professed workaholic, so I'm sure he'll find something to occupy his time.

I want to salute this show for introducing me to folks I would have never gotten to know any other way.

I also want to acknowledge that when they failed (mostly any time they had a 'special' guest or a side bit with someone flailing around on stage next to Hardwick) they failed BIG TIME (hence the 9/10). I got to the point I would fast forward through those bits because they failed nearly 100% of the time.

Did I appreciate Hardwick's sometimes less-than-subtle homoeroticism? Did I like that they got him out of his clothes on occasion? Did I love how they had actual LGBT folks on the show? Did I fall out when someone like Michael Shannon (General Zod from Man of Steel) flexed his funny bone?

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

Am I sad it isn't on anymore?

No.

You can't miss what the idiots at Viacom stole from you a long time ago.

"pay no attention to the prude below"

...actually, nevermind this other commenter - they obviously have a problem with something that some people like to call "humor". The show if f**kin' hilarious and has won awards, but hey, it's not for everyone. If it was, it would be called America's Funniest Home Videos, and would thereby be relegated blah status.

Of all the things that are still a thing... How is this show not still on???

It's hilarious. Definitely a night show for the new generation.

Don't wanna watch the late show? Or Saturday night live??

This was perfect for you. Miss it wholeheartedly. Bring it back.

Corky Hilarious Fun Time
jacob-j-fisher-124 October 2013
Chris Hardwich at his best as himself with his friends. The show is a cross between Tosh.O, formerly Attack of the Shows "Around the Net", and a Jeopardy parody. Maybe a bit of Web Soup but more sincere and light hearted. Highly entertaining and funny. Episodes fly by as they are only 22 minutes long. Highly recommend the daily DVR of this show if you work in the morning.

Great show to follow on twitter as well. Live feed of upcoming topics that you can participate in via twitter. It is a must follow on twitter handle of @midnight. Simply put 10/10. I seriously hope Comedy Central picks the show up after the 4 weeks contract is up.

Great Show
dottosrepair26 June 2015
Just saw the Kate, David and Will episode Again. I have watched all your shows and can say they are at least 98% fantastic. Some are just belly cramp good... This show is one of my top percent favorites. So many that I think it rude to compare. Great Show! Please keep up the great work. I plan on seeing you in SD this July as I live in SD. I love the comedy you bring to the show. I also love the show when you had your mom on. To me she is comedy gold! You two seem to have a real cool relationship so that is always cool. Random but always welcomed. I also watch "Talking". I can't even begin to express how cool you handle that show. Not to stroke you too much but I think you do a great job!

Best way to end the day.
bletcherstonerson9 September 2015
I read the reviews of the people who hated this show and they all have a common thread, they all loved Tosh.0 . I am not going to disparage their opinions, they are entitled to have them heard, but I wanted to clarify why the rest of the viewing audience should tune in. The host, Chris's delivery is stellar. His comedic communication and ability to actually relate to the viewer is a skill set that is rarely seen on television. As far as the Internet being the source for riffing, it works well, it provides a constantly changing source of information to joke about which keeps the show fresh. This format also provides a platform for comedians, writers and actors to actually have fun, and it shows, the energy is infectious. Finally, after a crappy day of work and a crappier day of ingesting bilious news, this program provides a nice grounding base and a way to laugh before bed, which is priceless. Will there be the occasional show that misses? Of course, but those shows are still better than anything else on television.

This show is terrible, so bad that I had to create an IMDb account
tggrif6 November 2014
After using IMDb for many, many years, I've found that this show is so terrible that I needed to create an account just to discourage other people from watching this show. While Chris Hardwick isn't unusable totally, he's most impractical as the host of a comedy show.

The constant begging of "please watch our show" is a good indication of how disreputable and un-entertaining the series actually is, it's literally sad.

After a relatively strong lineup at launch, which included the likes of Will Ferrell, the show tumbled back into C and F list celebrities and "comedians". In the same time slot, I'd rather watch a rerun of River Monsters for the Tenth time versus watching this piece of $#!# any day of the week. This show can go to hell.

it is comedy
Ascott101029 February 2016
this show brings out comedians and gives them a shot at fame. there have been incredible talents like ron funches, doug benson, weird al an so on. to expect that this was "child safe" or not "toilet humor" is totally on the viewer. if you don't enjoy comedy, then don't watch this. If you have an open mind about political, pop culture, social, and maybe personal issues, this show is for you. It doesn't deserve a bad review, you do. It is all about comedians creating a quick laugh, a "lol", or a joke that makes you think. If you don't like the show, stay off this thread. I don't go on websites saying how pineapple on pizza is an awful topping and I try to make you feel bad about it because i don't like it myself. Who cares? stop wasting your time, buttheads. Do something better with your time.

Absolutely terrible
H-V-Kooijman22 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
So I watched through 3 episodes to give this new show a chance. I didn't laugh a single time. On the contrary, many "jokes" were so painful to hear, they made me face-palm intensively; no audience of decent level would dignify them with even a smirk. Worse, a large part of the episodes is filled with the sound of Chris Hardwicks or his guests' annoying laughter. I can't believe that people compare it to Tosh.0, a show (which I find hilarious) that is far, far above @midnight in terms of originality, presentation, punchline bringing, dryness, video content etc.

Just as there is "English" humor (Rowan Atkinson for example), there is also "American" humor. Maybe @midnight is just a part of American humor I cannot appreciate or understand, but I find it's content downright thoughtless, witless and annoying.

Absolute garbage!
katerinan-6700429 June 2017
Absolute garbage! Where is the comedy? Where is the game-show portion?

This has got to be the worst show on TV right now.

How drunk or high does one have to be to A: be in this 'game show'. B: come up with stupid answers that are not funny. C: be able to score said stupid answers.

Some reviewers said it's good exposure for the comedians... no it's not! It makes them look dumb, not funny, and most of all desperate.

This is the show you get on when you've reached the bottom of the barrel!

Had it been a panel where they just sit down and come up with stupid comments, it would be entertaining! But to add a nonsense scorekeeper to responses that no one has any clue how they are scored, is just plain stupid! Sure, it's not a real game, OK, so then it's not damn funny either, it's stupid!

WOW, the crap that networks fund is astonishing.

Utterly delightful, irreverent, hilarity. Bring it back!!!
ascorfina21 July 2019
Chris Hardwick for president! His charm, witt, and nerdom are powerful and had me instantly obsessed from the get. Add a slew of other insanely funny comedians and actors (some of my biggest idols included), add a dash of genius and well thought out theme of a fake game show with pointless points, and bam! You got yourself the most enjoyable thing I've EVER watched. Why they discontinued it, I don't know, but whatever the reason it wasn't good enough! Give it back!!!

Pretty shitty, watched the episode with Jimmy Tatro in it!
bilalsaouli29 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Most shitty game-show I've seen in a while!

I don't understand how this have 8/10 on IMDb, probably bots or something. Cause the series only have 3 reviews all bad, except for one which is posted, one day after the show is uploaded to IMDb, not suspicious at all!

I give it 1/10 because game-show is staged, boring jokes, the point system don't even make sense, first they give 100 points, 10 seconds later they give 1000 points.

I only watched one episode that Jimmy Tatro was in and two other famous guys, because Jimmy was less famous, he automatically lost because of the staged game-show.

Bad series, don't even bother wasting time watching it :)

This show is a scientific anomaly
compile_a_smile7 January 2015
I've let this show run on my TV numerous times when I've forgotten to change the channel after John Stewart, and yet after multiple viewings and giving it several shots, I've never laughed. Not once. It has never been funny enough to make me laugh.

This show is half an hour long. And it's a COMEDY show on comedy central. Have we found some sort of hole in the universe here? How is this show not even funny ONE TIME?? The evening news is usually funny a few times a week, albeit not on purpose. But a comedy show? I understand a few lines will fall flat. But to have every line just not be funny, followed by roars of phony-dialed up laughter from the audience.

What is happening. What is life.

Terrible terrible show
michella-180-4252674 February 2015
Do not watch this if you get annoyed by juvenile comedy, similar to that of Tosh.O. The most surprising part is how many celebrities have appeared on the show, although after seeing how many celebs are on the Nightly show, it probably has more to do with Viacom's influence. Either way, if you like key and peele, tosh.o, or even the daily show and Colbert's more juvenile bits, then go ahead and check this show out, enjoy. If not, thank goodness, we all need to work harder to raise the bar on what we consider comedy in our society. In my opinion, this show is nothing original and just wastes time, rather than contributing to comedy.

@midnight - shockingly awful and unfunny
owrangowtang26 March 2015
a family member thinks this show is funny and he watches it. i seriously cannot understand it because i thought that family member's ability to appreciate quality humor was intact - but i doubt it now. family member is over 50 years old and i guess he never matured in his humor likes and dislikes.

@midnight is the lowest form of humor i have ever seen. totally not funny. compare it to the worst skit ever on Saturday Night Live or the dumbest, bathroom humor ever. losers galore.

i will be happy when it is canceled. when it is on, i ignore it. when i glance up at it, i roll my eyes and wonder how in the heck anyone could remotely be entertained by such dreck.

This show is beyond awful
tomahawkchopper201017 March 2017
How can anyone watch this abortion of a show and find it funny? I remember when my pal Artie Lange was banned from the show for a tasteless joke he made on Twitter. What shocked me wasn't the fact that he got banned, but was the fact that he agreed to do that awful show in the first place. If you want to give comedians exposure, put on a show where you bring up 4 comics to do a 5 minute set every night. You can let Hardwick host, but the format of @midnight is painful to watch. The jokes are cringeworthy and unfunny.

At least the comics are getting some exposure.
collinsmcrae6 June 2014
Between Tosh.0, Jeff Ross's "The Burn", and The Jeselnick Offensive, Comedy Central already has enough comics making fun of the internet. @Midnight also feels a bit to similar to Jeff Ross's show, save the arbitrary game show points handed out to @Midnight's guests. So far, I haven't seen @Midnight's format inspire a lot of good material from the comics either. As a fan of Hardwick and many of the shows guests, namely Scott Aukerman, Paul F. Thompkins, and just the general pool of alternative comics and writers the show features, i'm just a little disappointed that no one ends up looking very good, or very funny, on this program. Of course the show does have it's moments. Chris Harwick is a great host and the guests are funny people, and they do say some clever things from time to time.

So, in conclusion, I can say that I like the guests that the show and Hardwick draw, and the show is probably great for some of the lesser known comics and writers. Unfortunately, it's just not a good show. It's poorly produced, sloppy, and rarely funny despite all of the great talent. Better luck next time Hardwick, because you know, and I know, and everyone knows, that this show doesn't have any staying power.

Racist Production crew, and racist jokes told.
Stephen Colbert is 1000000 times better because he is not a racist. He has spoken in a positive way of Mexicans. I enjoy going to see new TV shows live. There was a few times I went and racist jokes where said by the guest stars. I found that extremely offensive. The last time I went I was the first one there and they picked out white people before me. I was like whatever. I figured it was since I'm not white. They must think only white people own a TV. Lol If you're of color just change the channel. In that way it can get taken off the air for low ratings. Maybe they will hire Mexican production. As far as I could see the crew and production was white. Watch something else. This show is hell a lame For being racist. Colbert is far superior.

Watch it for the comedians
Mr-Fusion30 September 2014
What makes @MIDNIGHT watchable (to any degree) are the comics featured as contestants. A lot fall flat (for me), but when there's a good panel, this show can be pretty funny. But it moves so haphazardly. For one, Chris Hardwick sounds like he's talking on the clock ("It's11:59and59seconds.THIShappenedonReddittoday:"). He's a likable enough guy, just slow down, man. Two, there's no structure for the scoring system. A comedian gives an answer that amuses Hardwick and he says, "points" – and an arbitrary amount is added to the score. And they move from one minigame to the next at a blistering speed. @MIDNIGHT is what would happen if Twitter had a game show, just as superficial and ideal for the short-attention-span crowd.
