For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. Back in 1987, Capcom introduced the world to "Street Fighter," permanently changing the landscape of fighting games and birthing an extremely popular (and profitable) multi-media franchise. In the last 35 years, "Street Fighter" has spawned almost 150 different games, spin-offs, TV shows, movies, and appearances in other games. That number is about to get even bigger because, as The Hollywood Reporter notes, Legendary Pictures — the folks who also put out "Godzilla vs. Kong," "Detective Pikachu," and "Dune" — have acquired the film and TV rights to "Street Fighter."
This is phenomenal news for fans of the classic fighting game, because Hollywood has a pretty disappointing track record with adapting "Street Fighter" for the big screen. Back in 1994, Universal released "Street Fighter: The Movie" featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li,...

The diversity of late-night writers rooms is not a new topic of conversation.
For years, these shows have been accused of being too white and too male, and while that still might be the case, there has been improvement across the board both in terms of gender and ethnicity. Progress is being made, slowly, in the right direction.
So, it was nice to see, earlier this week, that the new team behind the scenes at NBC’s A Little Late with Lilly Singh was incredibly inclusive.
Chelsea Davison, taking over from Sean O’Connor, leads a gender-balanced and diverse writing team of Vannessa Jackson, a former writing apprentice on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert; Sabeeh Jameel, who was a researcher on The Opposition with Jordan Klepper; Romen Borsellino, co-creator of Freeform’s Kal Penn Approves This Message; Nimesh Patel, a former writer for Saturday Night Live who was discovered by Chris Rock; Nelu Handa,...

What’s it like when Judd Apatow asks to put your soul on screen? It’s a question that gets a laugh from his series stars and creators.
“I’d already given mine away,” Gillian Jacobs said.
Paul Rust agreed: “Soon as you step in L.A., man.”
Like a lot of jokes in a typical Apatow project, it’s funny because while it might not be true, it still feels real.

Audiences have gotten more than a taste of that recently — in fact, for a couple of years now, Apatow has been keeping busy to the point of being ubiquitous. Beyond the HBO comedy “Girls,” which Apatow first helped shepherd to the screen after seeing Lena Dunham’s feature “Tiny Furniture,” projects like the Amy Schumer-starring “Trainwreck,” the Netflix series “Love,...

Pete Holmes’ last foray into TV, the late-night TBS talk show “The Pete Holmes Show,” ended in 2014 after just one season. Now, the comedian is back in his first half-hour comedy with HBO’s “Crashing.”
Created by Holmes and executive produced by Judd Apatow, the series follows the tradition of Louie C.K., Larry David, and other comedians playing different versions of themselves. “Crashing” centers around a New York comic named Pete who’s forced to make a new start after his wife leaves him. The new trailer shows his unsuccessful efforts at promoting a comedy club and trying to make some cash.
The clip also features cameos from T.J. Miller and Sarah Silverman, who asks him how he makes a living and if he’s homeless.
“I’m kind of in between jobs, staying on couches,” Pete says in the trailer.
“So you’re homeless? I can’t, that’s so sad,...

But now, Holmes is set to make a comeback with a new stand-up special and a half-hour sitcom, executive produced by Judd Apatow. His new series “Crashing” follows a young comedian (Holmes) whose wife (Lauren Lapkus) abruptly leaves him for an Italian boxer. Holmes wrote the pilot and it will be directed by Apatow. The landscape of late-night TV changed forever in May, when David Letterman said a few pungent final words: "In light of all this praise, merited or not, do me a favor. Save a little for my funeral." Then the host uttered his last "thank you and goodnight," introduced the Foo Fighters, and left the building, making no effort to hide how relieved he was to bail out of there. It's a totally different place without him. Like Steely Dan used to sing, daddy don't live in that New York City no more.

In a sketch for The Pete Holmes Show, Pete Holmes tries pitching a bunch of story ideas to Judd Apatow (like an eel magician called The Eel-lusionist), including one about how he became sad and broken after his wife left him. Well, that sadness will finally become art! Deadline reports that HBO has given the green light to Crashing, written by and starring Holmes and directed by Apatow. The show follows Holmes around New York City as he crashes on the couches of his famous funny friends after his wife leaves him. This will be the first pilot directed by Apatow, but he'll definitely make heartbreaking loneliness seem super-accessible.

When comedians talk about their influences, there are certain names that come up over and over — Steve Martin, Richard Pryor, Steven Wright, Sarah Silverman, Dave Chappelle, Dave Attell. But there is another kind of influence that is just as important, the immensely popular kind that happens to correspond with a comedian-to-be's childhood. Sinbad, who had a run of superstardom in the early and mid-'90s, is one of those comedians, and Pete Holmes, host of The Pete Holmes Show on TBS and the “You Made It Weird” podcast, was one such young comedy fan. With Sinbad's new special, Makes Me Wanna Holla, debuting on Comedy Central tomorrow night, Vulture arranged for the pair to tape an episode of “You Made It Weird.” Running nearly two hours, we have excerpted and edited down a small section. I've loved Pete Holmes' "Street Fighter: Red Tape" series. Kumail Nanjiani as Dhalsim? Genius. Joel McHale as Guile? Inspired. "Red Tape" points out how much absurdity is packaged within a single Super Nintendo title, and finally, we're at the craziest Street Fighter of all: M. Bison. M. Bison doesn't have pupils or irises. He operates out of Thailand for some reason. His metallic suit is electrically charged, but he still wears a cape. He did something bad to Chun Li's dad. The series will end its run after 80 episodes on June 18th. Pete Holmes debuted in 2013 with a seven week run and was then renewed for a second season of 13 weeks in 2014.
In a statement, TBS said, "We recognize Pete as one of the most relevant comedians working today. We loved the show and gave it two chances. We just couldn’t draw the audience needed to justify a third round. We hope we’ll get to work with him again.”

The faboo Kathy Najimy has joined the cast of Descendants, the Disney Channel’s upcoming movie about the children of the villains from classic animated Disney movies. Najimy will play the Evil Queen. This keeps sounding amazing.
I don’t know how I feel about this. Mark Sheppard will be a series regular in the tenth season of Supernatural. Sheppard is a great actor but I’ve long felt that the Supernatural writers ran out of good stories for Crowley a while ago.
Game of Thrones fansite WinterIsComing.net has descriptions of characters debuting in the fifth season. Watch out for spoilers if you follow the link, obviously. I’m certainly intrigued by the direction this is heading.
Quentin Tarantino says he wants to re-release Django Unchained as a mini-series. It wouldn’t be a remake but the original movie with 90 minutes of additional footage, shown as four one-hour episodes.

Late last night, Pete Holmes took to Facebook and posted an upbeat goodbye to his fans, while giving thanks to those who made The Pete Holmes Show happen on TBS, specifically a big shout out to executive producer Conan O’Brien. TBS has canceled The Pete Holmes Show after a scanty 80-ish episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bummer. The late-night series was a little wobbly out of the gate last fall, but it had so much promise — at least it had enough promise that TBS ordered 13 more weeks of it in January. But sadly for fans of Street Fighter humor, the show's June 19* episode will be its last. TBS recently renewed Conan O'Brien's contract through 2018, so at least one spot is stable in the wild, wild world of late-night shake-ups. * This article previously stated the wrong date for the final show; it's June 19, not June 5. “This is a hand-to-hand tournament, not a hand-to-claw tournament!”
The Pete Holmes Show is back with another installment of "Street Fighter Red Tape." The first video featured Ryu attempting to transcribe his battle cries. This new video stars Thomas Middleditch as the Spanish fighter Vega, who is requesting to use his claw and mask in the Street Fighter tournament.
I think Middleditch is an awesome actor, but this is the third video he’s done for the show — he played both Gambit and Nightcrawler in the "Ex-Men" sketches. When they had Mark-Paul Gosselaar portray Ryu for the first video in the series, I assumed they’d be reaching out to more guest stars to play these characters. Middleditch does a fantastic job nevertheless, and the outtakes (which I’ve also included below) are just as funny as the actual skit.

Pete Holmes is ready for more television. The stand-up comedian and podcast king added late-night host to his résumé last fall, and his TBS talker The Pete Holmes Show returns Monday for a 13-week run of new episodes. Holmes returns to the airwaves the same night Seth Meyers makes his anticipated Late Night debut and one week after Jimmy Fallon dominated the ratings with his move to The Tonight Show. But Holmes doesn't concern himself too much with the competition, partly because he's abandoned many elements of the traditional late-night model. Q&A: Pete Holmes on How

Between its litany of pretaped sketches, its unique interview methods, and its host’s largely personal monologues, The Pete Holmes Show doesn’t look like a typical late-night talk show. And that’s sort of the point. “We’re going for a very transparent, authentic, silly, safe, fun show,” Holmes says. “Safe, but not boring.”
Clearly, Holmes and co. are doing something right — their Conan O’Brien-produced experiment returns to TBS Monday at midnight. Shortly after Holmes taped his first post-hiatus episode, he spoke with EW about getting guests to open up, getting advice from Conan, and getting Mark-Paul Gosselaar...

The Pete Holmes Show debuted October 28th of 2013. It’s a late night/sketch/talk show that airs after Conan. It ran for 28 episodes before taking a holiday break. February 24th The Pete Holmes Show will return to TBS. If you haven’t seen it yet you should give it a watch. When it was announced Pete Holmes was getting his own late night talk show it was very apparent it would be different then any other kind of late night show.
You might recognize Pete Holmes for his sketches with Collegehumor and Front Page Films which include his infamous Batman parodies. You might also find his voice familiar because he also provides the voice for the E-trade baby.
Whether you’re a fan of Pete Holmes or not you should give his new talk show a host for these 5 reasons!

The Pete Holmes Show seems to have run out of X-Men members to fire in their “Ex-Men” series of sketches. They now have a hilarious new video (in a presumably ongoing series of new sketches) revolving around Street Fighter. It stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar as fan-favorite Ryu, who must get his battle cries approved for the global broadcasting of the tournament.
I think Holmes and his team are doing great things on TBS. Their Ex-Men sketches may have run out of steam towards the end — with Holmes’ Professor X becoming progressively meaner and petty — but I love that they’re tackling all of these slightly sacred geek properties. They do a fantastic job of playfully exploring their worlds while also exposing some of their weaker points. I’m looking forward to seeing more of these “Street Fighter Red Tape” videos.

EW reports that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to appear on Shameless as Fiona‘s new boss. Judging from Morgan’s roles on Weeds, Supernatural and Watchmen, I’m already starting a deathwatch for his character.
Seth Meyers promises that Stefon will eventually appear on Late Night, saying that Bill Hader wants to bring his Saturday Night Live character to Meyer’s show eventually.

Emmy and Golden Globe winner Camryn Manheim has signed on to play Sam Barton, the best friend and closest confidant of Berry's character Molly, an astronaut who returns from a year in space and tries to reconnect with her family. The mystery thriller promises that Molly's experiences will lead to events that change the course of human history.

The dust has settled on the cable late-night newcomers. Following the 40-week renewal Comedy Central gave to its entry, @midnight, in November, TBS has handed out a 13-week pickup to its midnight series, The Pete Holmes Show. New episodes of The Pete Holmes Show, produced by Conan O’Brien’s Conaco, are set to begin February 24 and will continue to air Monday-Thursday nights, following Conan. The half-hour Pete Holmes Show, which mixes live comedy, sketches and video piece, started off with a seven-week run last fall. It was not a breakout hit the way @midnight was and was outranked by its Comedy Central rival in all key demos. Still, the show boasts a likable host and has averaged an Ok audience of nearly half a million viewers with a median age of 36. Its viral videos, like the X-Men parodies and interviews with Olympian Lolo Jones and NBA all star James Harden,...

"The Pete Holmes Show" - Weeknights at Midnight/11 Central, After Conan Cyclops possesses the mutant ability to project a beam of heatless ruby-colored concussive force from his eyes, which act as inter-dimensional apertures between this universe and another. Cyclops' body constantly absorbs ambient energy, such as sunlight, from his environment into his body's cells that allows him to open the apertures. Cyclops' mind generates a psionic field that is attuned to the forces that maintain the apertures. Because this field envelops his body, it automatically shunts the other-dimensional particles back into their point of origin when they collide with his body. Thus, his body is protected from the effects of the particles, and even the thin membranes of his eyelids are sufficient to block the emission of energy. The synthetic ruby quartz crystal used to fashion the lenses of Cyclops' eyewear is resonant to his minds' psionic field and is similarly protected.

She can stimulate the creation of any form of precipitation such as rain or fog, generate winds in varying degrees of intensity up to and including hurricane force, raise or lower the humidity and temperature in her immediate vicinity, induce lightning and other electrical atmospheric phenomena, and disperse natural storms so as to create clear change. Storm can direct the path of certain atmospheric effects, such as bolts of lightning, with her hands. She has also demonstrated the ability to manipulate ocean currents, though the extent of this ability is still unclear. Storm is able to fly by creating winds strong enough to support her weight, the weight of others, and to propel her forward through the air. Storm can thus travel as...

Many of the big late night programs--Conan, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live, etc.--have thriving YouTube channels, where highlights from previous episodes are posted for the world to see. Pete Holmes, who recently began hosting The Pete Holmes Show on TBS, doesn't have quite the same following (yet), but he's the best example of a TV host who is treating YouTube not as an ancillary platform but a complementary one. Holmes owes much is his fame to the Internet. Before he became a regular TV host, his most well-known acting gig was his leading role in Badman, the series of hysterical Batman parodies released by CollegeHumor (fun fact: he is also the voice of the E-Trade baby.) Since taking to TV, Holmes has continued to include plenty of internet-friendly sketches. The Ex-Men series, where Holmes plays an obnoxious Professor X who fires his most worthless mutant associates,...

"The Pete Holmes Show" - Weeknights at Midnight/11 Central, After Conan Nightcrawler is a mutant who can teleport by opening a portal into another dimension, travelling through it via an unconscious direction-finding sense, and returning to his own dimension. When teleporting, Nightcrawler leaves behind a small portion of the atmosphere of the other dimension that escapes with a muffled “bamf” sound and smells of brimstone. On returning, his power automatically displaces any extraneous liquids and gases. In addition, Iceman can freeze any moisture in the air around him into unusually hard ice, and thereby form simple objects such as slides, ladders, shields, and bats. He has even once shown the ability to achieve absolute zero temperatures, with the help of the Human Torch (who pulled the ambient heat away from Iceman), and was able to stop the molecular motion of a bomb.
