The future of Blumhouse's New Exorcist Trilogy was quickly being redeveloped after the reception of David Gordon Green's "The Exorcist: Believer" wasn't so pleasant. Once David Gordon Green stepped down from it's planned 2025 sequel "The Exorcist: Deceiver", Blumhouse quickly went on a search for a new director, in hopes to continue the unfinished trilogy that they started. Mike Flanagan was eventually brought into negotiations to direct a new Exorcist film, seperate from The Exorcist: Believer. The film is being described as an all-new story set within The Exorcist Universe.
