- TriviaThe Chitauri helmet prop had to be created from scratch because all the Chitauri soldiers seen in The Avengers (2012) were purely computer-generated.
- GoofsWhen Simmons shows Coulson the "brain cells", they clearly lack axons/dendrites, which are branchings from the cell walls that make neurons easily identifiable. Brain cells normally use these branches to produce tiny electrical impulses. The cells shown look like red blood cells.
- Quotes
Leo Fitz: Here's the new Night-Night pistol.
[Ward tries it out]
Grant Ward: Sorry, Fitz. It's close, but it's just not right.
Leo Fitz: [Quietly] 'Cause agent Coulson had no problems.
Grant Ward: It's an ounce too heavy.
Skye: [Sitting nearby] An ounce? Seriously?
Grant Ward: It's the difference between success and failure. When you're on a rooftop with a 15-mile-an-hour wind, Your target is 500 yards away...
Leo Fitz: Yeah, but we do have a rifle.
Grant Ward: [Looks at Fitz] Lose the ounce.
[Leaves]
Leo Fitz: Yeah, okay. On it. "Lose the ounce".
[Imitating Ward]
Leo Fitz: I'm Agent Grant Ward, and I can shoot the legs off a flea from 500 yards, as long as it's not windy.
[Skye laughs]
Jemma Simmons: [Jemma Enters the Lab] So, Ward was here? Let me guess the night-night pistol again?
Leo Fitz: Yeah, and he said it was off by an ounce.
Jemma Simmons: Of course he did.
[Also imitating Ward]
Jemma Simmons: I'm Agent Grant Ward, and I could rupture your spleen with my left pinky... blindfolded!

Let's start with the two stars of this episode, Fitz and Simmons. In this episode we get to see even more how great these two work well together and how much they actually mean to each other. Both of these actor showed great emotions, Simmons not wanting to hurt or kill her friends and her clear bond with Fitz. Fitz was even better as he showed his desperation over how much he needs and, let's just say it, loves Simmons. When she drops out of the plane, Fitz, tugging on the door, screaming and freaking out about how he's going to save her despite never skydiving pulled at my heartstrings. I'm actually pretty glad that it was Ward to go and not Fitz, Fitz would've stressed out in the moment. And Simmons telling Fitz afterwards that he was the real hero for helping her find the cure and not Ward who jumped out of the plane to administer it.
I also really liked the Avengers reference came into play. It was very cool to see the Chitauri helmet, not only just mentioned. The fact that normal people, let alone emergency services, have alien technology was looked into in the one shot Item 47. In fact, Titus Welliver's Agent Blake, who appeared in Item 47, even showed up which is a cool acknowledgement of that.
Also, major credit to Gregg's performance in this episode, especially the scene where he comforts the dying firefighter. Him saying what he felt when he died was truly powerful and has pressed me even more into finding out how exactly he is alive.
One tiny flaw in this episode is that it was pretty obvious that the head wound was external not internal, but at least they found that out, although it took a while. I am, however, glad that it wasn't just another weapon or powered person, but in fact a disease. That was a welcome twist as it helped focus on FitzSimmons. It also showed another side to Ward being vulnerable and weak.
+ Henstridge and de Caestecker's performance + FitzSimmons relationship + Gregg's performance, especially in the firehouse + New type of threat + Well done connections to Avengers
Final Score: 9.3/10
