The Podcast Academy, a group of 1,000-plus industry creators and executives, awarded Campside Media and Sony Music Entertainment’s Chameleon: Wild Boys with the top honor at this year’s 2023 Ambie Awards.
Wild Boys, which serves as the third season of Campside’s Chameleon series, uncovers the story of two young men who claimed to have been raised in the wilderness in British Columbia and proceeded to fool a small town. The eight-part series was led by Sam Mullins with producer Abukar Adan, senior producer Ashleyanne Krigbaum, editor Karen Duffin and ep Matthew Shaer.
“I had nothing happening in my career. I had two young kids, I was working in a taco restaurant, and I never made a podcast before. And Campside deserves so much credit because I cold-emailed these guys, and they just believed in the story, and they believed in me, and they changed my life, and I’ll never forget it,...

“I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be. In February 2023, Netflix will remove a bunch of movie and TV series from its library,
Netflix UK and Netflix US takes down numerous titles each month without fanfare, meaning that many things on your watchlist could suddenly disappear.
These removals are due to licencing deals coming to an end. Often, the titles make their way back to Netflix in the following year, but sometimes they leave to go to other platforms.
This month sees a selection of Netflix Originals being taken down, also.
To minimise surprise, we have put together a comprehensive list of everything being removed in both Netflix UK and US.

In the continual reordering of the popular-music canon, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: Joni Mitchell’s complex, emotive, cerebral, ever-evolving music is ranking higher than ever.
Her 1971 album Blue landed in the Top Three on Rolling Stone‘s most recent ranking of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and artists from Taylor Swift to Harry Styles to Mitski to Phoebe Bridgers have been dropping her name for years. And when Mitchell recently returned to the stage at the Newport Folk Festival for her first performance since a near-fatal 2015 aneurysm,...

Days after stunning the internet with her surprise performance at the Newport Folk Festival, Joni Mitchell announced the upcoming box set The Asylum Albums (1972-1975).
The release chronicles the pivotal turn Mitchell took following the massive success of 1971’s Blue when she famously retreated to British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast for a period of solitude. There, she wrote For the Roses. The release contains the remastering of that album, followed by 1974’s Court and Spark, the double live album Miles of Aisles (1974), and The Hissing of Summer Lawns, released the following year.

Eleven months in to 2021, and Warner Bros. movie streaming strategy on HBO Max is still going strong. Now the list of new releases for November 2021 on HBO Max is highlighted by yet another big ticket film.
King Richard, starring Will Smith, is set to arrive on HBO Max and in theaters on Nov. 19. The movie will tell the story of Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams. Smith is already getting some early awards buzz for the role so Oscar-heads may want to check this one out.

November is a good month for saying goodbye on HBO Max. The streaming platform will host the final 2021 episodes of HBO late-night staples “Real Time with Bill Maher” and the Emmy Award-winning “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” the season finales of Max originals “Love Life” and “Doom Patrol,” and also provide home viewers their last opportunity to watch “Dune” on HBO Max until sometime in 2022 (“Dune” leaves HBO Max on November 21).
But beyond those conclusions, there are some huge premieres as well: Oscar contender “King Richard” arrives on November 19 with Will Smith in the lead role, the back-half of “Gossip Girl” Season 1 will make its debut at some point, and the HBO Music Box series continues with the Alanis Morrisette documentary “Jagged” (which the singer roundly criticized) and a new feature on Dmx. All of that content, plus a number of library classics, including but not limited to “Moonstruck,...

On June 30th Icarus Films will release Hu Jie’s documentary “Spark” along with Rita Andreetti’s insightful “The Observer“, a look at the life and work of Hu Jie, one of China’s bravest and most creative artists and activists. Both films will be released on DVD as well as on Video-on-Demand.
“Spark“, one of Hu Jie’s most powerful films, looks back on the legacy of a small, but influential magazine from Gansu Province that dared to tell the truth about the Great Leap Forward. Spark’s young contributors bravely shone a light on the horrific realities of life covered up by the Communist Party. Before we’ve even had time to settle in to our seats, director Aaron Woodley’s Spark: A Space Tails throws us right into the heart of the action, expecting viewers to instantly understand this new world we’ve inhabited, and the rules and context of this particular universe. Give credit where it’s due: “The Fate of the Furious” had the best overseas opening for any film, ever — just above “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and far above “Jurassic World.” Since its overseas opening last Wednesday, it’s earned around $430 million. That’s great for Universal, and any weekend with a $100 million opening is a good thing. But beneath the headlines are some curious results that aren’t 100 percent positive.
The Top Ten
1. The Fate of the Furious (Universal) New – Cinemascore: A; Metacritic: 56; Est. budget: $250 million
$100,182,000 in 4,310 theaters; PTA (per theater average): $23,244; Cumulative: $100,182,000

There’s scant evidence of any creative spark in Spark: A Space Tail, a thoroughly generic, unremittingly charmless computer-animated adventure featuring a heroic teen monkey that lazily scavenges from the likes of The Lion King and Wall-e without bothering to contribute anything of its own to the hollow synthesis.
That it took 16 executive producers and producers to pull off this Canadian-South Korean collaboration, which was not made available by distributor Open Road for advanced review, is arguably its most notable achievement — despite attracting a voice cast including Jessica Biel, Susan Sarandon, Patrick Stewart and Hilary Swank.

To be fair to the computer-animated kids’ flick Spark: A Space Tail, George Lucas lifted elements of everything from Flash Gordon serials to Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey when he was writing Star Wars. But Lucas had the sense to be subtle about it. This South Korean-Canadian co-production, meanwhile, takes no such precautions, telling the tale of a restless teenager dreaming for adventure outside of the desolate space backwater where he grew up who discovers that he’s part of a lost royal lineage that must be reclaimed from a power-hungry relative in possession of a weapon with the power to annihilate entire planets at will. He even has a clunky speeder made of scrap metal he rides around on while brooding about his fate, like a simian Anakin Skywalker. Yes, the main character is a monkey. So that’s different, at least.

Once again a new installment in the Fast and Furious franchise takes flight in April and while The Fate of the Furious isn't expected to match the nearly $150 million opening of 2015's Furious 7, it is expected to become the second $100+ million opener of 2017 as all other studios have scattered, making it the only new wide release of the week. That said, Open Road will debut their animated feature Spark: A Space Tail in just over 350 theaters while Fox already began the nationwide expansion of their drama Gifted into over 1,000 theaters on Wednesday. Prior to Furious 7, the largest opening for a Fast and Furious film was the $97.3 million opening for Fast & Furious 6 back in May 2013. Industry expectations for this eighth installment have Fate of the Furious debuting with $100 million in 4,311 theaters. This is the widest April opening of all-time (307 more than Furious 7) and 13th widest release of all-time.

So there's a new animated film coming out called Spark: A Space Tail about a space monkey who must stop a goofy monkey dictator with his two pals - a DeviantArt ready fox lady and a Dr. Moreau-esque pig abomination - in some far off sci-fi dystopian kingdom. Also Patrick Stewart is in there somewhere. Anyway, without further ado, here's a clip and trailer from the film:... Read More...

The River Run International Film Festival wrapped its 18th edition in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with its narrative feature award going to Anna Rose Holmer’s The Fits, which was, in the words of the jury, “an audacious debut from a promising American talent.”
Best documentary feature went to Mike Plunkett’s Salero, about one of the last salt gatherers in Bolivia. The jury praised that film “for its astonishing visuals, narrative acuity and ability to showcase characters that go against the grain.”
The Fits, a Venice Biennale College project that also played at Sundance, also won best actress for its impressive young newcomer Royalty Hightower.
Interestingly, there is a link between the two top winners — debutant director Holmer from The Fits also served as a producer on Salero.
The jury’s best ensemble performance went to Jackson Martin, Nick Serino and Reece Moffett in Sleeping Giant, with best director honours for Romania’s Radu Muntean for One...

Silas' buds! Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were photographed together on Wednesday, July 29, three months after welcoming their baby boy. The couple were all smiles as they walked near an animal hospital in L.A.'s Woodland Hills neighborhood. Though both stars can certainly glam up when the occasion calls for it, the first-time parents dressed casually for the afternoon outing. The "Suit & Tie" singer, 34, wore a gray T-shirt and baseball cap, while Biel, 33, donned ripped jeans, a white top, and sunglasses. Timberlake and the Spark [...]...

Hilary Swank has turned down a number of acting roles in order to take care of her father.
Swank's father Stephen recently underwent a lung transplant and has moved in with the actress.
Swank told The Huffington Post that she wants to be there for her father in his time of need.
"I'm his sole caretaker right now," Swank said. "It's a certain amount of time, but in a lifespan it's a blink of an eye. There's been job opportunities I've passed on, and things that I said 'I can't', but really what we're here for is our family.
"There is nothing I want to do more other than being with my dad in this time of need. And if it wasn't me taking care of him, I think I would always look back and regret that opportunity to be able to care of him and help him through this extraordinary time.
