My favorite Adult Swim show of the decade, Childrens Hospital, did many wonderful things that made my life brighter and happier: It gave us more Rob Corddry, candid Adult Swim humour, fantastic stories, and a host of memorable music moments. I was lucky enough to catch up with Matt Novack, the man behind the music for Ch and discuss some of his latest projects and memories from his time working on the As classic. What has been your favorite film project to work on? I've been fortunate to work with some wonderful people so picking one particular project out of the bunch is difficult, but if I had to choose, I'd say A Better You. It was my first time scoring an indie comedy, and...

Lobbyists against onscreen smoking could have a friend in comedic actor Andrew Daly (Comedy Central’s Review), or at least his persnickety neighbor character who is trying to clean up the streets in Matt Walsh’s second directorial comedy A Better You. The film follows Dr. Ron (Brian Huskey), a Hollywood quack hypnotherapist. The only thing worse than Dr. Ron’s methods are his disrespectful patients who loiter around the neighborhood as seen in this clip. The film, which was co-written by Huskey and Walsh, makes its world premiere today at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival at 4:40pm at the Metro 4, with screenings tomorrow at 8:10am and Monday, Feb. 2, at 10:20pm. The film is produced by Kirk Roos (The Brass Teapot, High Road, Painkillers) and his Badlands Features label. Joe Lo Truglio, Erinn Hayes, Rob Huebel, Morgan Walsh, Natasha Leggero, Reid Scott and Mo Gaffney also star.

A self-acknowledged "showcase for Academy Award frontrunners," the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is often overlooked for the actual films that earn it festival status. An amalgamation of international discoveries and ’merica’s circuit highlights, the Sbiff curates a week of best-of-the-best to pair with their star-praising. The 2015 edition offers another expansive selection, bookended by two films that aren’t on any radars just yet. Sbiff will open with "Desert Dancer," producer Richard Raymond’s directorial debut. Starring Reece Ritchie and Frieda Pinto, the drama follows a group of friends who wave off the harsh political climate of Iran’s 2009 presidential election in favor of forming a dance team, picking up moves from Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev thanks to the magic of YouTube. The festival will close with "McFarland, USA," starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello. Telling the 1987 true story of a Latino high school’s underdog cross-country team,...

Matt Walsh, who plays the sweaty, mustachioed Mike McLintock on Veep, has joined the Wild Oats cast, which includes Demi Moore, Shirley MacLaine, and Jessica Lange. Andy Tennant (Hitch, Fools Rush In) is directing the comedy about a woman (MacLaine) who gets a surprise windfall because of a computer glitch, and decides to run and take the money rather than fess up. Walsh will be playing a grifter named Forbes. With three films coming out (the tornado chase flick Into the Storm, the rom-com Sex Ed, and his second film as a director, A Better You) and another in production (6 Miranda Drive, a horror movie with Kevin Bacon), Walsh is a busy man.

Things are finally looking up for Mike McLintock, the communications guru Matt Walsh plays on Veep: The season opened on his wedding, and he’s now trying to start a family. Of course, complications have arisen, particularly involving a certain portable cooler, a.k.a. “jizz box.” Outside of the show, Walsh is finishing up work on A Better You, a movie about a hypnotherapist that he directed and co-wrote, and he still performs Asssscat once a month at the Ucb Theatre, which he co-founded. Vulture called Walsh to ask about his past life in psychology, sleeping in formalwear, and Veep, which wraps its third season this weekend.Mike finally has a few positive life developments this season. What was your reaction when you got the scripts?I love it. I had a meeting with Armando [Iannucci] last year — he met with us to talk about what we would like...

“Veep” star and Upright Citizen's Brigade co-founder Matt Walsh wants to raise a very specific $52,650 on Indiegogo to crowdfund his new improv movie, “A Better You.” Walsh directed the film, which stars friend Brian Huskey (“This Is the End”). The duo, which also co-wrote the rough screenplay outline, needs money for post-production. See video: Neil Young Shatters Pono Music Kickstarter Goal in One Day On their fund-raising page, Walsh provides one of the better reasons for the whole Hollywood-star-asking-for-your-money thing, which can sometimes become awkward with these ventures: ”One, I'm not truly famous, I'm more of a “Hey I know that guy” celebrity,...
