Another example of a successful German kids movie
Horst_In_Translation14 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The film is directed by Detlev Buck (won't say too much about him, those who know German movies know him) and written by Wenka von Mikulicz, who has acted in some of Buck's movies already, and Bettins Börgerding, who has written for TV productions so far only. The result is a movie which is worth taking a look at, also for grown-up audiences.

The title song is a bit cheesy, but nonetheless catchy and apart from that you get everything you could expect from such a movie: great horses, friendship, love, betrayal, which is not too severe though, so that your kids can easily watch it without getting nightmares. The main antagonist Kakmann (which you could probably translate as Schitman) is played by Charly Hübner, an actor that I really like, which lifted the film even more for me. He's lots of fun in his role here and especially his singing scene is one of the comedic highlights of the movie. You probably saw him in "The Lives of Others" and probably not in the recent family movie "Parents", where he delivered one of the finest performances from the last year.

The concept here is very similar to most kids movies from Germany these days. The child actors are very much unknown and new to movies, but the supporting cast includes some established actors. The formula works again and Buck proves with his 8th movie since 2000 that he is still one of Germany's best and most versatile directors having worked on comedy, drama, documentary and children's movies in the last 15 years.

Very strident
blumdeluxe4 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
"Bibi & Tina" tells the story of a young witch and her best friend Tina, who both love horses and have to overcome a royal student and an unscrupulous businessman in this episode of the famous German series.

First of all, I'm not the target group for this film and I'll try to take that into consideration. Generally spoken, I find it important in child movies that you get the impression they are not only made to earn money. This one is somewhere inbetween. It does feel like a lot of people put heart and thought into it and I appreciate this a lot. But it also feels at times like some elements are meant to aim at the biggest possible target group. The film comes with a decent plot, suitable for girls in the age of the characters. I'm not a huge fan of the singing but I guess that's a question of taste. What really bothered me is that the movie is so strident. I mean I know it is not exactly reality tv but if everything is colorful and shiny and pops up, it is hard to take anything serious anymore.

All in all this is a solid girls movie delivering some well-known characters and a set of established German actors. Probably good for the target group, not necessarily something for other people.

Imagine the most undemanding viewer...
HansRhein27 November 2021
German film schools seem to teach one thing: imagine the most undemanding viewer, take virtually 50 % of its brain away and then make a movie for him. I cannot stand these stupid movies anymore, made in my country. And this is one of them.

Literally Breaking Bad
smonimonmoni5 November 2022
They literally are parallels of each other. Bibi is literally Walter White, manipulating people around it and always coming back to her partner Tina (Jessie Pinkman). The only thing I cannot explain is the close relationship between Jessie and Walter Jr. (Alex) but everything else makes sense. Gus literally has a lab, tuning his horse. Sophia is Hank, expressed in his mannerisms and interactions with Walter White .

It all makes to much sense to be only a coincidence and this needs to be examined closer. Still waiting for the Slippin Jimmy adaptation. 10/10 don't regret watching and would so again.

Beautiful pop-horse-teenage-movie about friendship
marcbieringer7 March 2014
I got to see this flick at the premiere in Berlin and didn't expect much from it - mainly because i'm way out of the target group for this film. Bibi & Tina is targeted at young-preteen-horse-loving girls, and i am 31 and male ;-)

The world is based on the German comic strip Bibi & Tina, which also released a lot of audio-books (or the other way around?) owned by the company Kiddinx. One of the girls is a witch and also has her own brand "Bibi Blocksberg" which is just about her, living at home with her witch-mom. In Bibi & Tina, Bibi Blocksberg is always on holidays at her best friends horse-adventure-holiday-camp, the girl is called Tina. She's not allowed to use her witchcraft there.... but you know how children are.. this witchcraft thing is just too tempting!

I Don't wanna spoil the story, but here's why i enjoyed the movie very mucho: Awesome villains, believable heart-touching friendship stuff happening on screen, very good casting in general, happy screaming kids in the movie theater, and the very well produced and written songs they sing in the movie, which gave the whole film a touching deepness i really didn't expect.

If you have children: Definitely go and see it! With or without them ;-)

This is Breaking Bad
j4kqb5 November 2022
Greatly hidden Breaking Bad parody (yellow filter references the filter us during the whole bb series, Kakmann = Gus, Bibi = Walter White, Tina = Jessie, etc). Also nice and more than enough fan service, I'm not complaining tho (I want to lick Kakmanns Belly). This movie furthermore has nice representation of many cultures, especially loved the Arabs.

Story (10/10) The Story has really good writing, loved the foreshadowing and I really wasn't expecting the plot.

Sound (10/10) This movie contains some of the best songs of the decade, if not of all time.

Overall: 10/10 Kakamann Kakamann Kakamann.

Zoo wee mama that was spicy

Warning: Spoilers
Lots of sexual tension throughout the film (e.g Tina and her horse (I forgot the name)), but much of that is expected considering this film contains Kackmann.

Some of the songs of the century originated from this masterpiece, as a music listener myself (don't mean to brag or anything, but I've been listening to music my whole life), I have to say, some of these songs really hit hard in the club.

I also appreciate the subtle nods to british and american culture throughout, including writing a whole hecking song in the language (kiss me, and ordinary girl), which I think is a nice little thank you to the countries that inspired this production, through films like "Horrid Henry 2 - 2 Cool 4 School" which really laid the groundwork for these sorts of produtions.

Overall, a bit weird that we didn't see any swiss people in this one, but then again Bibi is a witch, which is close enough to the people down there.

Can't wait for the video game spinoff (Bibi und tina - battle royale), I need to be able to see those sweet sweet abs of Freddy on my ps5 pronto.

8/7 would reit wieder geschwind 👏
