On a rainy January 19, at 530 p.m. on the steps in front of Actors Theatre of Louisville, members of the Louisville theatre community took part in launching a nation-wide initiative entitled The Ghost Light Project. Besides Actors Theatre, there were representatives from other local companies such as Kentucky Shakespeare, Looking for Lilith, The Liminal Playhouse, Theatre 502, the University of Louisville's African American Theatre Program, among others.

I don’t think anyone would mistake So You Think You Can Dance‘s 12th season as its strongest — aside from viewers who were trapped in some sort of Footloose-esque, no-grooving-allowed nightmare for its first 11.
But while the Great Stage-Vs.-Street/Jason Derulo-Vs.-Descriptive-Adjectives Experiment of 2015 lacked something in diversity (whatever happened to ballroom and disco?), gut-busting emotional concepts (what I wouldn’t have given for one routine on par with “Addiction Dance“) and insightful critique (Mary Murphy and Misty Copeland, I missed you!), I’d be lying if I said summer TV still wasn’t the better for it.

From ampersands to The Apprentice, from dinner ladies to Dirty Den, here's a selection of nerdy in-jokes from Doctor Who series 2...
Last month we took a look at Doctor Who Series One as it celebrated its 10th Anniversary. Specifically, we delved deep into the murky world of in-jokes and sweet nerdy references.
Let’s take another trip back in time and have a look at the more notable and interesting references and in-jokes from Doctor Who Series Two, starring David Tennant and Billie Piper, where the credit of “Doctor Who” had been changed back to “The Doctor”. Pfft, party poopers.
New Earth
Old-skool fans would have been forgiven for being excited at the prospect, given that “New Earth” was a planet mentioned in the 1974 classic Invasion Of The Dinosaurs (though it didn’t actually exist in that story, it was a fake world). But all fans could get excited at...

Sophie Aldred's Ace was a Doctor Who companion ahead of her time. We look back at the girl from Perivale's time in the Tardis...
In 1987, Doctor Who broke the companion mould with Dorothy Gale McShane - better known of course as Ace - the streetwise, working class kid who blew up the school art room, and became the only cautioned arsonist to ever board the Tardis.
With a fondness for homemade explosives, and hailing from a very different background to those she succeeded, Ace became the first Doctor Who companion to truly develop before our very eyes as she journeyed through adolescence and into adulthood. Laying the foundations for future companions to build upon, she is perhaps not only a pivotal character in Doctor Who history, but genre TV in general.
"From the beginning all we knew about Ace was that she would be a fighter and not a...

It’s fair to say that this has been one of the weirdest weeks in my life as a Doctor Who fan. On an almost-daily basis I’ve found myself scratching my head in dismay and bafflement, pulling the face I normally reserve for repeat viewings of Ghost Light. Things couldn’t possibly get any weirder, could they?

Galactic Film Festival 2014
I have always wondered why, with all the horror festivals in La, there isn't a dedicated science fiction film festival in the city. Well, I now have to wonder no longer, because on August 9th I attended a cool science fiction film fest, The Galactic Film Festival, a presentation of The Academy of Film Festivals, the same institution that brought us last year's horror oriented Rip Film Festival.
Horror and science fiction have always gone hand in hand, and there were some great horror themed shorts and features that played Saturday.
Deadly Punkettes
I have been singing the praise of director Jared Masters' exploitation and trash cinema inspired films for some time, and Deadly Punkettes, his newest feature, is also his best. Masters warned me before the screening that I was going to see the "clean" version, and that there is a dirty...
