OK, so the stuff about Thomas Trowbridge was interesting, and the beautiful Cindy is great to look at, but this episode descends to the ridiculous. The US "Who do you think you are" is an example of how the good old US of A can take a very successful show concept from the UK and ruin it by not understanding, or not being able to replicate, the elements which make the original show successful. How to ruin the element of suspense and thrill of discovery? Put in a line like this : "Cindy wanted to find out more about her forbears and so commissioned a genealogist to compile a 20 generation pedigree" (or something like that). Cue said genealogist to produce chart in fancy lettering going back to Charlemagne. Suspense NIL, credibility NIL, underwhelming 100%. But Cindy laps it up. By admission on the show Charlemagne had 20+ legitimate children, and if he was procreating in the 700s, it's a safe bet that all of us in the Western world probably have multiple lines to him. It's probably also a safe bet that those links are now impossible to trace in detail. The charm of the UK WDYTYA was that it uncovered the histories of little-known people and the pathos of their lives, as well as the occasional better-known ancestor. It also took things one step at a time, showing original documents. It looked for parallels and traits in the lives of the current person. The Australian series of the show stuck to the same formula with success. By contrast, the US version takes a didactic approach and also (in this instance)seems to consider that what is important in your ancestry is finding prominent people. The point seems to be to stroke the subject's ego rather to help them learn more about themselves.
