Ferres still doesn't have it

The 90 minutes of "Mein Mann, ein Mörder" may look actually promising at first sight as it includes the talented Ulrich Noethen as the potential killer of his mistress. But things are not always what they seem and I was finally correct in believing his character was innocent. The real problem with this film is that it is much more about the state of mind of Ferres' character than about Noethen's. And Veronica Ferres has been a weak (at best, mediocre) actress for decades now, so you shouldn't really expect a lot here. The only one worse I can think of right now with similar media presence is Christine Neubauer. I once read that Ferres' best performance to this date is still the one of an actress as there is really no reason why people would still cast her. Her range is almost non-existent and her face expressions are always the same. And her characters are basically almost always the same too. Flawed very strong female characters who go through some sort of character development during the film. Maybe the most embarrassing scene this time was when this younger guy tries to kiss Ferres. Horrible, horrible writing here. I'm really so sick of people wanting us to believe she is such a stunning desirable woman that men go for. They don't. Except in movies.

this 90-minute movie has a decent supporting cast. The players have appeared in "Gegen die Wand", "Der Untergang", "The Monuments Men", "Stalingrad"; "Body of Lies" and "Munich". The writer and director is Lancelot von Naso who got quite a few honors for his previous movie "Waffenstillstand". The ending included a cringeworthy showdown and twist in the mountains and, back at home, Veronica Ferres in an arrogant queen-like state and her husband all quiet and humiliated by his oh so strong wife. Why oh why, Mr. Noethen, you are much better than this. Also, I love Johnny Cash, but the song did not fit the ending at all. This movie took itself much more seriously than it had any right to do. Not recommended.
