Always a timely moral lesson in the kindest loving way
suzytrivett31 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The respect for others feelings, the way to forgiveness, the understanding that hurt feelings can cause a good person to act wildly are all principles that are beautifully portrayed. One interesting point, was why cold tofu was eaten but the returning father from prison."According to a Korean food columnist tofu is very hard to make and so the tofu never has the exact same flavour. It's different every time that it's made. And so eating tofu after prison symbolises not repeating a bad deed. In other words turning over a new leaf. Another theory is that once soybeans have been made into tofu the beans can't be changed back into beans again. So tofu represents starting a new life and not reverting back to old ways which will send you back to prison where you'll have to eat bean rice. In the scene above from one of my favourite dramas All About Eve (MBC, 2000) gangster In Soo comes out of prison and is met by his subordinates from his gang who greet him with tofu. In this case the tofu seems to represent a kind of wishing that he doesn't get caught again!"

This series pulls you in and you don't want to leave!

This series about family and village life not only has beautiful scenery, but fabulous acting, especially by children. There are many emotional scenes and I cried along with each one. Yet there is always a new beginning or a redeeming factor that makes this series so true to life. People make mistakes but forgiveness and understanding prevail.

Loving it
jesseb-433723 January 2021
Watched just about everything on Netflix. Fell in love with South Korean shows the past 2 years . I've watched dozens, ones better than the next. I'm writing this review since there are so few. I was hesitant about Heaven's Gate since it's almost a decade old and I feel K-Drama's have really come a long way since this premiered but I took a shot. Mind you I'm only starting episode 7 (out of 30) but I know where it's going . Tremendous thus far. So heartfelt and legit. Great story line, I'm not going go into details , but it's fantastic

Korean "Little House on the Prairie"

Like many K-Dramas, there are underlying messages in the narratives. Considering all the junk you see on Netflix these days, this 10 year old series is simple and nice.

Heroine deserves the award for Most Ridiculous
the1stwatch21 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The main lead waffles between her loser maybe-ex-husband (because she's such a paragon of niceness) and a perfectly good man (who likes her because she's such a paragon of niceness) from start to finish. Everyone else is ridiculous as well, except for the grandpa, the first wife, and the step-daughter.

No self respect
adnilsih-imdb20 June 2021
The lead is a woman with no self respect, especially on attitude towards her husband and value of marriage. She brings more problem and put others in her family and community on risks. She just gets lucky every time being saved by another events, revelations or incidents. So it's not a good learning for women in the same situation in real life. The rest of the stories are ok and warm about living in rural area community.
